I was going through some personal struggles and the catholic church wasn't fulfilling my spiritual needs and my friend invited me to join her at MCC. My very first time there I felt so welcomed. The passion from the worship team (music and singers) hooked me as well as the warm smiles and engagement from others if I welcomed it. And I did. I needed all the support I could get. A welcome table with more info is present every Sunday, a hospitality team to provide coffee and tea/water. Children's services as well as youth group for all ages. And you can tell everyone who attends wants to be there. My husband and children joined shortly after me and we call MCC our home away from home several years later. Also-check out all the events and fun groups they have too on their websites! Seriously so many. We are big fans of their summer VBS camp!

We stream it to the TV in the living room and participate with the service as a family (while the wife and I often also follow along on our phones to be able to join the chat with the leaders and other viewers - you don't realize how much you miss socializing until you get a chance to do it!). Everyone I know (okay, three families at this point) feels the same way about the place. I don't want to say anything bad about any place else in comparison, because that's not what I am saying. I am just saying that the congregation here is very lucky. They just went on a working post-Katrina trip to New Orleans with high school students, and they have many other community programs. My impression was that he was aiming to succeed the current pastor (which happened soon) and treated anyone, visitors or member as a potential threat to his objective to take over the church leadership. Bad start. I left my handbag there and I went back to pick it up. When a woman member handed to me I could tell it was opened and searched. I had prescription pain medicine to deal with horrible nerve spasms that occur in my vertebrae more and then. She let me know that she found it and became instantly judgmental and critical as if I was some addict. I was deeply offended by the hostility she display and vile criticism she hurled at me -- a decent Christian with seminary training and wide experience in the church on many levels. Afterwards, i never heard from them again and needless to say, I never had an desire to return to this place, especially with Pridemore who lived up to his surname in personality. Very unfortunate. I suggest Martin Covenant or New Life for a genuine loving church true to Jesus.

On Sundays at 10:00 am the celebration is usually at the Corte Madera Recreation Center, on Tamalpais Drive just west of Highway 101. During the week, classes are held around 6:30 pm in the learning center at 199 Greenfield Avenue, in San Rafael. That's just off 4th Street right before the San Anselmo border. I'm learning to ride Golden Gate Transit, to check out cars from City CarShare, and to ask for rides from my colleagues. On weekends My Lady will either check out a City CarShare car or rent a car from Enterprise or Alamo. Why do we do this? Because there is a wonderful atmosphere in Marin County. People are peaceful here. The air is fresh and the sky is blue. The sun is warm, and there are plenty of sun dresses, shorts, and bicycles. The services at GGCSL are well worth attending, too. The music is fresh, the minister, Rev. Karyl, is inspiring, and the congregation is welcoming. The theme is offering "practical spiritual tools to transform your life and help make the world a better place." It's a great contrast to the cold and fog of the Richmond District, that's for sure.

Today's sermon was on forgiveness. it was a wonderful sermon that anyone could apply to his/her life. Pastor Gerardo incorporates scripture into his sermons with humility and grace. He prepares handouts with the scriptures he's covering so people can follow along during the service. Every Sunday after church we have a free lunch which allows us to get to know each other better. We are now in "hybrid" mode with part of the congregation coming in person and the balance continuing on Zoom.
