It is yet to boast a huge gateway similar to China Towns of large cities like London or Manchester, but you are sure to know when you are there. All signs are marked in Chinese characters: a driving school, hairdresser and doctors' surgery... and my new find: Bar Oriental Qi Lin Ke. The bar's interior is basic with plastic tablecloths, dotted with bottles of red, spicy sauce and soy sauce. My friend and I were the only European-looking diners alongside a group of Chinese teenagers and a family. The menu is vast and features dishes that you'd only find in a real Chinese restaurant, i.e. where Chinese people eat: black eggs, fried frogs' legs and duck tongue to name a few. My friend and I were pretty hungry so hedged our bets on dishes that we were sure would satisfy our appetite and fulfill our curiosity: seaweed salad, beef noddle soup, steamed prawn dumplings and a rice ball cooked in a bamboo leaf (all sounded way more adventurous in Spanish). All (well not quite, a doggy bag was requested) were washed down with TsingTao beer. Portions were plentiful and our feast came to just over €20.

Our server here was super friendly, and after starting off with some sweet marinated green olives and bread, we shared two appetizers to begin our meal. The Ensaladilla Fusion was a creative take on the classic tapas dish Ensaladilla Rusa (potato salad), but this version was "deconstructed," and the chopped egg, tuna, and shrimp were served on top of the creamy dressed potatoes. The Salmorejo Cordobes was a local cold soup, a creamy puree of tomatoes, bread, garlic, and olive oil; but Sojo's version was served in a jar (so hipster!) and topped with chopped egg and crispy bits of Jamon Iberico. The salmorejo came with crunchy rounds of toast on the side, which was perfect for eating with the creamy soup. For our mains, the Pulpo Asado con Blinis de Patata y Mahonesa de Pimenton was a grilled, smoked octopus tentacle, served over a round slice of potato and paprika mayonnaise. Though tasty, the smokey octopus tasted burnt and had a slightly bitter flavor. Finally, the Rabo de Toro was another local dish of stewed oxtail, and Sojo's version came with two huge, meaty, gelatinous chunks served in a savory sauce along with crispy strips of fried potatoes. And after everything was done, our waitress brought us two complementary glasses of Gin and Tonic to finish off our meal!
