I ordered three different tacos in the evening, "Mexican-hot", they were served immediately, and they all tasted pretty similar, boring, and as if the dried meat within the limp taco shells had sat around all day. Amen! Finally I found a decent burrito option in Munich, and it's down the street from my favorite bar. This doesn't come close to Vato's Tacos in Berlin, or any hole in the wall in SoCal, but when in Munich, I'll take it! I recently came back here for a second visit, and I ordered a chicken burrito. Per the guy's recommendation, I got it with jalepenos with a #2 out of 4 spicy. Usually in Europe when they say it's spicy, it's not going to be. But my lips were burning when I was eating this burrito, so be careful going spicier than that! I just wish they wouldn't put so much lettuce on the burrito. Condesa gets it right with using corn tortillas for tacos and by offering 4 degrees of chilli heat for your cocina. Corona con limon and a counter staff that willingly encourages one's fantastic belief that he or she (in my case) can speak Spanish! No entiendes, actually. :) But it is all part of the fun, gente! The fiesta-like color scheme of the place is also a cheery and welcoming touch . Such a scene would not be complete without Spanish-languge music and Condesa did not disappoint. I was also impressed with the crazy amounts of bottled hot sauce with which to burn one's mouth. As our carnitas burrito and pastor taco (one per order) were grade II chili hot, we decided to forgo the hot sauces. The whole package made me I feel like I was back home in California. The only 'meh' for me would have to be the industrially-made corn chips that reminded me of what one might purchase from Costco in a giant, plastic sack. Any resto that makes their own chips is a winner in my book and I wonder why Condesa doesn't. The guac, too, was just a tad too salty and citrus-y. As has been mentioned before, Condesa is conveniently located by the Müncher Freiheit street car and bus stop. The restaurant is nice, service is very friendly and quick and tacos are good, with many choices of meat (carnitas, pastor, pibil, etc.) and fairly priced (between EUR 2.70 and 2.90 depending on your choice). I was taken here by another fellow Yelper and friend and, I must admit, it was great. Edging close to mission style burritos this place is quick, reasonable and tasty. I could have used more heat and, next time I would ask for a 4 instead of a 3. There are quite a few ladies who run the shop and they seemed to be of Mexican or Spanish descent. The place itself is quite small with seating for about 20 people and, it was packed when we arrived. I ordered the Amigo which is beef based and the burrito came packed with beans, salad, rice and of course beef. I must admit at first I thought there was no heat or beef in it. After a couple of bites it all came together. For under €6 you can get a meal here and the service is quick and friendly. The ambience is like being in a small Mexican restaurant and very basic. The menu is small and there are a few drinks and beers to go with your food. I only wish they had Jarritos :-( I would happily come back here for a meal again. Great taco truck street style food. Small menu, but what they do, they do well. I don't like the salad in the burrito either, I just ask for no salad when I order and it's not a problem. Fantastic, real guacamole. Burritos are big and filling. Tacos and quesadillas are good for a smaller bite. There are 4 levels of spicy (sauces) when you order. This is not fake German pretend spicy. I love spicy and levels 3 and 4 are not to be trifled with. You can get jalapeños added and for real masochists there's a great selection of habañero chili sauces. Eating in costs a little more than takeout. Service is friendly, wait times for food are reasonable (of course you'll have to wait a little longer when they get busy) and fair prices. The inside of the restaurant isn't too big, but it's very clean and brightly decorated. It's one of my favorite places in Munich for quick, good and inexpensive food. read more

I was surprised at the authenticity of the burrito. Although this place specializes more in Baja California than Mexican food, the bright colors, dia de los muertos decorations, and pastel colored plates are definitely Chicano. They have excellent chips and also excellent guacamole. I highly recommend sharing a plate as an appetizer. The tacos here are served on white corn tortillas, definitely authentic, however the fillings seemed a little sparse. I ordered the vegetarian burrito and was pleased, however I wish they offered a "wheat meat" option with similar marination and cooking styles to the real meat options (pastor and carnitas). I had a bite of my friend's pastor burrito and thought it was one of the better pastor fixings that I've had in Germany. What I really think made the burrito rich was the fact that they actually used authentic Mexican sour cream!!! Boy it packed a punch against the rest of the rolled up ingredients. The fillings of the burrito itself were more heavy on the meat, salad, and cream than than the beans and rice...but I was ok with that. I liked it more than most of the burritos that I've sampled throughout Berlin. Another friend of mine ordered the chicken quesedilla and it was pretty cheesy :-) If you are a student, come between 11-16 and with your burrito you get a free drink! I am looking forward to coming back here on my next Munich trip. Only need to wait a few more weeks for that one! read more

Finally found a burrito that comes close to what I'm used to getting from California! The rice/beans were really well flavored and cooked to pefection. Choosing the spicy level was a nice touch, and it was good spiced. It is still only about half the size of a real burrito, but hey baby steps right? This little hole-in-the-wall place is the most authentic Mexican joint I've seen so far in Germany, and it just happens to be in my neighborhood. The tacos were also not bad, but I prefer flour tortillas (they had corn tortillas, that were kind of ripping apart from the juices). If you have cravings for a good burrito (like I do, a lot), Condesa is where it's at! read more

Best Mexican food in Munich! They have a wide variety of options that also include spice levels 1-4. If you're into spicy but would like to keep your taste buds I'd recommend a 2. They have gluten free options but I would be a little careful with cross contamination if you're celiac. Ask them to change gloves and avoid the guacamole because they touch the flour tortillas with it. The good news is that the tacos are served with corn tortillas and the salad is gluten free too. I haven rated the chips yet but I'm guessing they are made of corn. read more

I can tell that whoever owns or designed the place is either from Mexico, or has a lot of experience with the culture. Indeed, when I first stepped in, I felt immediately transported back to my youth in a sleepy border town on the US-Mexico frontero, where I lived several years and attended a Spanish-language public school with the children of the Mexican migrant workers. I only wish the burritos had corroborated, instead of dashing the reverie. My main complaint is with the burrito al pastor. Al pastor. Originally surfacing in Mexico City in the mid-20th century, this recipe supposedly came from the Lebanese immigrants who roasted pork meat on a spit, which meat they then sliced to serve shwarma. The result was similar to a Greek gyro, or a German/Turkish döner. The spit was always topped with a pineapple, and sometimes an onion too. The pineapple would slowly release its juices, which contain a meat tenderizing enzyme named bromelain, and the onion, to my knowledge, was there just for flavour. As the recipe popularized, it moved into peoples' kitchens, evolved, and people began to marinate and roast the pork without using a spit. When people prepared al pastor in their kitchens, they needed a way to get the pineapple juice into the pork to tenderize it. Indeed, the mark of a good al pastor is how tender you can make the meat. The best way to do this was to mash or puree the pineapple and marinate the pork in that, along with whatever other flavourings one wished to add. The end result was pork with tenderness and juiciness similar to pulled pork. It was still served in slices (which in kitchens without spits, effectively always fell apart, owing to their tenderness), and dressed with some herbs and other additions to the taco or burrito. So you can imagine my surprise when, instead, I received tough pork with big chunks of pineapple. Not small pieces. No. Big Chunks. You might also relate to my insult and annoyance when, after I brought back my burrito thinking some mistake had been made, the guy condescended to me, saying that I must not have any meaningful experience with Mexican culture, adding that he acknowledges that it can be hard to find Mexican food in Germany. Sorry, but who doesn't offer horchata on hot summer days? Who uses wheat tortillas, instead of corn? Who somehow never has Negra Modelo, the most perfect beer of all Mexico to have with tacos or burritos? I won't complain about the disappointingly mild "level 4" salsa because fact is, I'm the guy who drinks habañero sauce out of the bottle, but there's that too... In the end, this is one of the best taco/burrito places in Munich simply for lack of actual competition. My recommendations for good Mexican food in Munich are still limited to El Patio (Hohenzollernplatz) for a full dinner, and to Pure Burrito (Goetheplatz) for a Mission style burrito. read more

This cute little taqueria makes pretty darn good Mexican street food -- I think they make the corn tortillas in-house, and because of that, you should definitely try the tacos (the burritos are OK too, but the taco is more authentically Mexican street food, AND the house-made tortillas give it that extra flair). They guy we talked with both times we visited was super nice, very excited to talk with us about what's he's doing. I ordered my tacos 'Mexico spicy' and they were moderately spicy. and the guacamole & chips were very good. They even have a couple different Mexican beers if you're feeling Helles-fatigue. Next time I will not forget to specify NO SALAD [i.e. ON the burrito/taco] -- lettuce does NOT belong on a burrito and certainly not on a taco!! and I would recommend requesting easy on the rice, heavy on the beans. I think I'm seeing a trend in Munich Mexican food that they don't give you a lot of beans -- but the pinto beans here were fantastic, perfectly cooked. Nice location in Schwabing, very convenient access from Münchner Freiheit U-bahn. Note -- they're only open till 9 pm. (so no late-night, post-drinking tacos here, sadly). read more

I used to live in Texas, Colorado, and California for many years before moving back to Germany. I know the real Mexican as well as Tex-Mex cuisine. Not to mention Chipolte restaurants: I always make the beeline to the Chipolte restaurant from the aeroport as soon as I landed in Dallas or Denver for the incredible burrito. In Texas, I went to the Mexican restaurants operated by the real Mexicans (i.e. no English spoken there) so I know the difference. One thing that peeved me the most was the 'German salsa', prepared with tomato ketchup. I hated those pseudo Mexican restaurants that conveniently 'adapted' or 'cheapened' the Mexican cuisines for German taste or for the clueless Germans. When Taco Libre was opened in Munich, I sampled the vegetarian burritos and started going there a few times until the service and quality went deep south. Not to mention the increased price. Pure Burrito popped up all over Munich so I tried their vegetarian burritos and decided it wasn't for me. I visited Burrito Company and found the burrito too soggy and filled with wrong type of cheese (feta or goat cheese). The guacamole was nothing but squashed avocado. I saw Condesa by accident and checked out. Gee, the place is exactly what I saw in Texas! I became acquainted with the owner/manager who initially came to Europe from Mexico as an exchange student. Very charming guy! The vegetarian burrito and tortilla chips with guacamole are so damn good that I became the regular there for more than a year. I requested Spicy Level 4, and they asked me whether I was really sure I wanted that fiery level. Of course! he queue does get long at certain times, especially in the evening. However, it's worth the wait. The service is very quick and organised. The cost is very good for the large sized burritos. I even dragged my German friends there and tell them they are eating at the most authentic Mexican cuisine. Just one teeny-weeny downside about Condesa is that it is closed on Sundays. read more

So whenever I'm in the mood for a quick burrito or quesadilla, Condesa comes to mind. They are pretty conveniently located, at Münchner Freiheit, and the food is pretty good. I usually get the ground beef in either a burrito or quesadilla. It's plenty to satisfy me for a meal, but sometimes I add guacamole & chips just because I love them! The place is small and designed for a quick bite, not a long meal with friends. One drawback for those with babies is that to enter you need to go up stairs, which can be challenging with a stroller. Therefore last time I just took mine to go and ate outside on a bench near by. I am positive I will be swinging by more often as the weather warms up to take it to go and eat in the Englischergarten. read more

To any fellow Americans out there, I was looking for a place that served something close to what Chipotle serves. I think this is pretty close! I took the vegetarian burrito to go, which was hot (both temperature-wise and in spiciness). You can chose from burritos, tacos and quesadillas. Either chicken, beef, pork or vegetarian. Spiciness is decided when ordering, from a 1-4 (4 being the spiciest), I chose a 2, which wasn't all that spicy. It's possible that the cooks there were just having a bad night, but my burrito was extraordinarily weird and disappointing. To name a few of the offenses: the vegetarian burrito had potatoes and carrots (what?), the tortilla was undercooked and chewy, they used dark green-and-purple lettuce (which added a weird flavor) and the beans were unseasoned. My friend ordered a chicken burrito and noted that his did not actually come with beans or sour cream. To be fair, I'm a Bay Area native, so I have a very particular idea of how my burritos should be. But to me, this tasted like an experiment from someone who had read about burritos and seen pictures, but didn't actually know what they were supposed to taste like. Again, it's possible that I just had the bad luck of being served by the C-team. Nevertheless, based on my experience, I would not recommend this place. I would have never found this tiny little gem without yelp! Condesa is simply awesome. We tried their quesadillas and tacos and both were outstanding. The best part is they give you an option to choose the extent of spice.. We chose 3 as the degree of spice for all our orders and trust me for an Indian who can handle a good degree of spice, finishing our orders was a challenge that I greatly relished. I love this place! Coming from Austin Texas I did not expect to find such good Mexican food. I have now tried 3 different burritos and can claim all were equally good. The carnitas is my favorite so far, but the pastor with bits of pineapple mixed in was almost as good. The Tinga was lighter and also very good. I like my food spicy so I got extra jalapeños each time. The staff is super friendly and quick. And check out the Mexican folk art on the high shelf in the back. read more

ahhhh! I really really hate writing two star reviews. It's like a parent telling a child that just got in trouble "This hurts me more than it hurts you"....but I'm afraid I have to. I gave Condesa a few opportunities to sway my opinion, and it just couldn't do it. I must say the interior is quite cool.It definitely isn't lacking in the colorful Mexican decor, which makes for a nice ambiance (though this packed to capacity during lunch, which takes that ambiance right back down a notch). As for the service, it's past paced (as expected) because there is probably a line of people behind you still waiting to place their order. No complaints there, but then again, no compliments either. Then there is the 2-star worthy food. I can honestly say, without any exaggeration, that the vegetarian burrito at Condesa is the worst one I've ever had in my life. Potatoes and carrots do not belong in a burrito. Period. I was silly for even trying it. I felt like all I could taste was the potatoes, thus making me feel like I was eating a potato sandwich. Trust me, this is not a feeling you want to have. I went the other day with a coworker and had the chicken burritos that were supposed to be in a chili sauce. I went with a level 2 (our of a possible 4) on their spice scale, and was soooo let down that my eyes weren't watery and my nose wasn't running at all. I would expect that for the level 1, but come on! At least make the 2 a little spicier. I guess their burritos just don't do it for me. The odd mix of ingredients combined with the dull flavor have earned Condesa a place on my 2-star black list :( read more

Without a doubt the best Mexican place I have been to in Munich. The service is fast and very consistent. My personal favorite is the Chicken Tinga burrito. There isn't a ton of seating, but many people get their food to go which helps. It has a fun atmosphere and cute decor. read more

Really good food that is actually Mexican and at a good price. Only down side is that it's only in München, but if you're anywhere nearby it's worth the trip. Trust me, my friends and I drove from Stuttgart (about 2 hours without traffic) and we were not disappointed. We had tacos al pastor, guacamole and quesadillas. The tacos al pastor are served as they are in Mexico: meat, cilantro, onion and even with little pieces of pineapple. And if you're wondering, the tortillas used are the ones that are actually supposed to be used for tacos, as in made of corn and soft. They're even made right there at the restaurant! As for the ambience, the place is decorated trying to emulate a Mexican taqueria, with the way that the area where the tacos are prepared is laid out and decorated (picture of the virgin Mary included) and with other little things like the typical Mexican round trays and the posters of lucha libre. However, the bright colors on the walls and on the furniture give it a modern twist. It is all rounded up with Latinamerican pop music playing in the background. So, this isn't exactly the place where you'll find the Mexican stereotypes (big hats and wild wild west cantina look) but rather a kind of hip place you'd find in Mexico nowadays. The service is fast and very friendly and, even though the food will be brought to your table, you have to order at the cash register, but don't worry because the people serving are happy to explain to you how things work at Condesa. We went there tonight and ordered chips and guacamole, cheese quesadillas, a chicken burrito ("Tinga" - marinated in chipotle, I believe) and a carnitas burrito. It was all delicious! The tortillas were a bit tough. The guacamole was flavorful and delicious, if a bit over mixed (I like chunks of avocado). The chicken had great flavor, though it was different from any chicken I've had at taquerias in the States. The carnitas were spot on - just the right flavor and texture. We liked the lettuce in the burritos - it was more of a fresh-mex than a true mexican burrito, I would say. It's right by the U-bahn stop Münchner Freiheit, so it's really easy to get there by public transit. We will go again! read more
