I had an odd experience with XNA TSA today. I was told I was selected for a random security check…read more When I did the random security check, I was told I had alarmed two screening machines and needed a hand pat down. I wonder which it was - a random security check or did I really alarm two machines? I just went with the pat down and didn't ask questions as I didn't have the patience to ask about it - which might have been offensive and seen as questioning authority - which of course I wasn't (and didn't). The officer asked if I wanted to step in a more private area and I declined. He ran the back of his hands along my legs (front and back), across my buttocks and my genitalia - and he ran his hands inside my legs up to my genitalia and on the outside of my legs up to my hips. It wasn't what I was expecting at the airport - but an all clear was given after all that and away I went! The officer was polite and professional. I was grateful it was quick and respectful. The rating of a three that I am giving is only because of the mixed signals - was it a random security check or a pat down due to alarming two security scanning machines? It seems it would be either or, but not both?!?

The signs throughout say "No overnight camping" and since "camping" is not the same as "sleeping"…read morethen I think you'd be okay spending the night in this welcome center as long as you're not tenting and just sleeping instead of driving tired. I'm a huge fan of rest centers that do that! The welcome center has restrooms, shaded parking, picnic tables and grills. Inside during business hours, there is an attendant handing out free coffee and information on Northwest Arkansas accommodations. Well worth a stop if you're passing through and not sure what you should see in the area. Located along US-71 south of the Arkansas/Missouri border, this used to be the only way of traveling north between Northwest Arkansas and the Joplin area. Since they built I-49, this doesn't get nearly as much traffic. [Review 2314 of 2024 - 377 in Arkansas - 23329 overall]

They do have picnic tables and the entire rear area is fenced in for security. There was some sort of "trunk exchange" going on in the back by the dumpster and in the spirit of minding my own business, I quietly locked up the van and turned in for the night. For those looking to do the same, there are no signs prohibiting overnight parking. The loop-shaped parking lot is well shaded and while the nose-in spaces were okay for my van, I think that a larger vehicle or someone towing would be challenged here. After 7 hours of sleeping in comfort in my Sprinter van, I was on my way in the morning to find coffee. [Review 19786 overall - 263 in Arkansas - 758 of 2023.]
