We drove up and the propriatress was chatting with neighbors. She greeted us and when we asked if it was OK to take photos of the outside. . . she have us a tour of the inside! Wow, that was unexpected! Super warm and friendly owner, the Inn has many of it's original features including wood floors, lighting fixtures, coal burning fireplaces, stained glass, and more. It also boasts a beautiful new kitchen and glorious gardens including milk weed for the Monarch Butterflies which have been rapidly decreasing in numbers in recent years. So yay! She has a small shop of movie themed items and a museum cabinate of movie props. We were told about the filming pricess at the inn and told about plans for the gardens. Lori and George, the Innkeepers are very nice. The Inn is so fun. This is where Bill Murray's character in the movie stayed and the front looks exactly as it did in the movie. Lori gave us a map of the spots in town with marker's of sites from the movie, so we did that for a half day. The inn has a dining room where breakfast is served, there is the parlor with chairs for reading, or a sofa for watch Groundhog Day on the big screen. There is a small breakfast room with a refrigerator, coffee maker and snacks for the guests. There is one guest room downstairs and the others are located on the second floor. They even have a small gift shop area, where Mr. Bee bought a replica clock from the movie, it is permanently set to 6:00 am and the button on the top plays a portion of the radio show it played in the movie. We stayed in the Black Walnut Suite and it was extremely clean, and comfortable with 3 large windows that looked out over the front yard and the street just like in the film. Breakfast was good and plentiful. One morning we were the only guests so I told Lori the night before to take a day off and we would enjoy breakfast in the town square. I can't say enough great things about our stay. The front porch is awesome and fun to sit in the evenings with a glass of wine. The gardens and koi pond around the house are also stunning and beautifully lit in the evenings. There is parking off to the side of the driveway which is really convenient, or street parking. You can also easily walk into the town square from the Inn. We highly recommend checking out The Cherry Tree Inn for a fun weekend or even mid-week stay.

The "Staff was amazing and attentive" in serving our delicious "Family Style" Luncheon. I was please they could work within our "Budget" to alllow us to have this Luncheon in their beautiful Banquet Room. In addition there was space for our "Entertainer." Even with the few small hiccups we had, nothing major, I wouldn't change much. Chris & co. were fabulous to work with. Quick to reply to inquiries, happy to try to help come up with alternate solutions when what we had envisioned wasn't do-able (due to state law.) Everyone at our wedding has commented on how FANTASTIC the food was. From the appetizers through to cake (provided by an off-site contracted vendor whom I will review separately) everything was delicious. It's hard to say that about wedding food sometimes! The Arboretum did the room set-up for us, because there was a brunch wedding the same day as our 6pm start wedding. It wouldn't have been better if I did it myself. Everything was laid out as I had requested and I had no reason to worry about things not being correct (we provided centerpieces, escort cards, decor, cake topper, lighting, you name it.) Having the private brides room was a life-saver. Even just to have a place to sit and have a quiet moment by myself. My only hiccups were that we had discussed having our cocktail hour in the main foyer dining area. This was sold to us at the very first meeting, that we had the entire venue, and this is where cocktails would be - they would take the tables away and put in some high-boys. This did not happen. When I asked about it, I was told it wasn't in our contract. So, lesson learned to me, get everything in writing. The only other thing was that scheduling the tasting was a little strange. I asked many times from the time we signed our contract (late winter 2016) through spring, summer, and fall, when our tasting would be. I was told 2 months ahead of time. We were scheduled for October 2016, which was fine, until at the tasting when we told them how quickly our event was coming up, a few of the employees looked at each other as if we should've had our tasting far sooner (oh, your wedding is in January? this is late October...) Small hiccups to say the least, and really due to my own lack of contract knowledge. Arboretum Club comes VERY highly recommended.

There was a strong pepper flavor and a little bit of char. The grilled chicken and bacon flatbread had a nice variety of textures with a pretty crisp cracker crust. The combination of chicken and bacon in this dish worked well together to create a nice savory taste. The fries were crisp and fairly meaty, a solid version of a slightly thicker cut fry. Overall, not a bad place to stop by if you're golfing or visiting places nearby. Hours can be erratic, about 11-5 on most days except Monday where there is no kitchen service, winter time where they may close early, and on specials nights where they open till 8 pm. You'll be able to enjoy a hot meal at a reasonable price and very relaxed atmosphere.

There is a lovely outdoor area set up for the ceremony and then we moved indoors for the cocktail hour. It is open and bright. However, one toilet for about 100 people was interesting. There is a tent, that is airconditioned and probably heated based on the season and weather. Plenty of room to move about so moving around the tables was easy. Just a heads up: they lock the doors for the indoors after everyone has moved to the tent. That means, you must use the toilet facilities attached to the tent. Better than a port-a-potty, but . . . Currently, Swanson is blocked off so you have to drive around the road block.

This is our second year going we went to the original and it was so fun. We decided to do again and they did not disappoint. They brought up their game by 10 points. Don't sleep on these little Park district activities. Sometimes they turn out to be the funnest not only do you get a beautiful view of the Crystal Lake and all its amenities but we had food and activities. They really went all out. The bathrooms are clean and well stocked. There was plenty of food to go all the way around with all the food trucks and as always, the park is clean and easy to navigate.
