I have never stayed here! I have only walked the path to this area from Pier 290 restaurant! Of all the segments around the lake I have walked, this is the least nice! Except for little area called Congress Group with what appears to be a plantation style colonial home, the rest of the buildings along the walkway are comparatively very run down. The basketball court near where little green and white cabins are located are in bad shape. The wood white and/green buildings nearest the lake including the lifeguard house are rotted and dilapidated! Fire pit area at edge of lake has broken wood benches and chairs with peeling paint! It seems like it once had a life maybe in the 50's, but it felt deserted. I discovered it is a Christian camp and retreat site. Maybe the interior of the property that cannot be viewed from the lakeshore path is more livable! What I could view from the path was in bad shape and it felt creepy.

Ive been here for Retreat several times. It is a great location with amazing views. I've stayed in a variety of buildings including chapin pierce and the green small buildings. The worst stay was those little small green buildings in the middle of their campus. They are nasty absolutely nasty and bathrooms I rather just not use. I know this facility is working on remodeling and improving but they really just should not rent those places out. I barely was able to sleep well when I stayed in those buildings. I have also stayed in the Pierce building which was actually pretty nice as it has a really big deck overlooking the lake. There is a fireplace outdoors on that deck as well and my group had a lot of fun. That building also has a decent kitchen so we were able to have use for some of the things that we brought. The rooms were basic and the bathrooms were shared per side. Then there is the chapin building. This building has newly remodeled bathrooms one for girls and one for boys which is nice. It is clean and updated. There is a meeting area in the middle of the lower level that has a fireplace. The rooms are simple. There used to be a kitchen but they turned that into the boys bathroom. This building is decent however one year we went to member said she woke up with mouse droppings on her sheets. That kind of freaked me out but maybe it was the fact there was a kitchen? We had no issues this year however there was a storm and water pulled through the window of one of the rooms and a member had his personal belongings nearby so they did get soaked. The building I guess is not well insulated and the windows are not sealed well. Reading some of the reviews on this page made me relieved but at the same time I'm a little worried. We never had issues with bedbugs but it would not surprise me. Food wise it is just A-OK. Their breakfast is usually decent. They have coffee and tea almost all the time which is nice. They always have a salad bar available. The food is usually very simple a few dishes and that's it. It is very American like food so if you have a group of people who are picky I want variety you will not get that here. Overall I like this place but it can definitely improve. They have fire pits around the campus they have boat rides available on the dock they have a mini beach which is super cool and a playground to for children. Parking sometimes can be a bit of a challenge if you come with the really large group but never really had an issue not finding parking. Sometimes I found it a bit warmer we ate lunch in the summertime so I don't know if the air conditioning is just weak and not working well. One thing is that paper towel rolls do run out andOurs was never replaced so I don't know how often they have their cleaning people check on things like this.

The moon on the lake is gorgeous!

That said, the overall experience didn't match the price point. We went today around 2:00 PM as a party of two, and service was slow despite only about five other occupied tables. The biggest issue: we were initially brought the wrong bill (another table's), and after about 15 minutes, we ended up having to find someone to correct it. Food was average for the cost. The fish tacos were fine but nothing special. The meatloaf was a single slice with less than a cup of potatoes--felt sparse on the plate and could have used another side or component to make it feel like a complete entrée. With one glass of wine, we were around $60, which would be easier to justify if the service and food execution were sharper. One note: while it's "on the lake," the views are fairly limited at lake level--you mostly see piers and the cruise boats--so for us the main draw was the ambiance inside. Unfortunately, the ambiance couldn't make up for average, overpriced food and a service miss. If you go, go for the atmosphere--just set expectations accordingly on value and service.

Everything about this place works together to make you want to return again and again. First of all, it's a live music spot. And that's the focus of everything. But what a spot! Great comfy seats, not a bad spot in the place! The music is never too loud, but it's not so soft you think you're watching TV at your grandpa's place. The bands are generally cover bands, but the owners go to great lengths to find only the most professional cover bands. We've seen impeccable renditions of the Eagles, Supertramp, Allman Brothers, Rolling Stones, Styx, and more! There have been no disappointments yet. Still to come this summer: Chicago and Journey. Yes, I'd rather see the originals, but let's face it - half the bands we love are so old now they'd rather be doing what we're doing: enjoying our retirement. So leave it to the next generation of talented musicians to grab these charts and start wowing us with their ability to rock! You WILL love this place. From the free bottle of water when you arrive to the freshly baked cookies at intermission to the Dove bars as you exit. The owners greet you at the door and their ticket guarantee is unmatched -- have to cancel your seats for the show? They will give you credit to another show, no questions asked!

From the moment we walked in, her energy, attentiveness, and genuine friendliness set the tone for the entire visit. She was on top of everything--quick service, great recommendations, and always checking in without being overbearing. It's rare to find someone who makes you feel both taken care of and completely relaxed at the same time, but Illeyana nailed it. The nickname "Ms. Goldfish" fits perfectly--she kept things fun, memorable, and just a little bit legendary. If you're heading to The Abbey, do yourself a favor and ask for her. Customer service like that is hard to come by. We'll definitely be back!

From the moment we got here we were inconvenienced. 1. We checked into our room and there was no hand soap, tissues, or conditioner. 2. There are only a few entrances to the resort instead of having an entrance to each building to make it easy to bring stuff to and from your car. 3. The gift shop is crazy expensive, bottled water is almost $4 a piece and a case of beer is $80. 4. The TVs in the room are completely locked down and you're unable to screencast Netflix. Your choices are 30 basic channels of infomercials and $25 movie selections that are mostly from the 90s. 5. The room service for food ends at 10pm and the vending machines were bare, there is no where to go for a late night snack. 6. If you go to the restaurant to order food to go, they won't do it. They'll refer you to calm room service for your room forcing you to leave a tip. 7. If you want a cart to bring your luggage to your car, a bellhop has to supervise you and watch you do it the whole way. 8. On our last day the boiler was down and there was no hot water to take a shower before you check out. 9. We asked for a plate at the front desk to warm up food in the microwave (only one shared microwave is available for each building), and they couldn't find any. In short, this place is like a glorified motel 8 that doesn't truly respect their customers. Their operations are only convenient for them and nothing about the stay was easy. We almost felt like we were in a prison. I did enjoy the stay 10 years ago but we were very disappointed by how it is currently ran.
