I have a 2006 Toyota 4Runner with 290,000 miles. I know I needed to get brakes replaced (starting to make noise) but I wanted to know what other preventative maintenance I should do. Definitely need someone you can trust when you ask an open ended question like this. After doing research, looking over reviews and getting referrals from friends, I choose Concept auto repair. Ngoc and Jonathan are very responsive and good with communication. I got front/rear brakes replaced, spark plugs replaced (Ngoc showed me pics of the gap and gave me the option of I wanted to change them; first time a car shop showed me pics and there was no pressure to get it done). Ngoc did recommend gasket service which I am very glad I agreed to, because there was already a leak that couldn't be seen. He also noticed a hose that was starting to crack and gave me the option to replace it or do a temporary fix that a lot of people do with older cars. I choose to replace the hose. My car hasn't had major issues so I want to keep it running well. After getting the service, Jonathan went over what was done to the car and gave a estimate on changing the shocks/struts (TBH these are the original factory ones from when I first got the car. Again, no pressure to replace them but gave me a reasonable estimate). I am very pleased with the level of service Ngoc and Jonathan provide. They understand the needs of a normal person and we're great with answering my questions I had about the service (since I know very little about car maintenance). I trust these guys 100%. read more

Concept just opened but Ngoc has been in the business for years. I went to Ngoc for all my service/modification needs since he was open in San Jose as Synergy Auto Works. Since I worked in downtown, Synergy was perfect as I could get all the work done on my car during lunchtime. Ngoc and his crew always did a perfect job my car. Recently, the city took back the land in downtown so Ngoc had to reopen the business in Fremont. Living in East San Jose, it's a bit of a drive but there's still nowhere else and no one else I'd rather bring my car to. A good mechanic who can do it all (motor, transmission, suspension, brakes, electrical) is almost impossible to find. A good mechanic who is honest is even more difficult than that. There has never been an issue with my car that Ngoc hasn't been even to diagnose and solve, so his knowledge and skill set is in depth and seemingly endless. He can also explain the problem to the common person so they understand exactly what the issue is. As I said though, Ngoc's expertise and talent isn't the only reason I remain loyal. The big thing is hard to find in other shops is his integrity. I'd say his integrity is unmatched. I won't throw anyone under the bus, but I have dealt with other shops who overcharge for labor or tell you they find a "hidden problem" in the middle of a common job and they tell you that they will need to charge you more to finish the service. There is never a time your car will be on the lift being worked on and someone from Concept will call you telling you they need to charge you X additional dollars because they can't get a control arm to move or they didn't realize the coolant reservoir was in the way so they need to empty it and charge you for coolant. I have brought my Civic Si, my parent's Highlander, and my Honda Accord to Ngoc for service and he's done a terrific job on all of them. The brake rotors he resurfaced on the Highlander still feel brand new. The coilovers and BBK he installed on my Accord turn heads and exceed my expectations. On a side note, you might have a tough time finding it at first. If you're coming from 680/Durham, make the left into the shopping center from Osgood, the shop is way in the back on the left hand side. The new shop's lobby and waiting area is an upgrade from the old Synergy location. The waiting area is really comfortable with a 4K TV equipped with movies and video games while you wait. Restroom is really clean and elegant too. I will continue to go to Ngoc at his new location as long as he is in business. read more

Took my 2003 Honda Civic si Ep3 for some custom engine work. Mind you this car has been sitting in front of my driveway for over a year and a half. Jon and ngoc definitely delivered in providing my needs to get this car running and getting it back to its feet. I'm a very particular person and I like to have my car drive and feel close to oem spec as possible, which includes a working dash, climate control blowing cool A/C, and having a worry free start up and idle. Despite swapping to a mild build motor and a tranny that wasn't made for the car, Ngoc and Jon made the adjustment needed to make sure the motor and transmission will run in this car like it left the factory. Jon was also kind enough to inform me on a daily basis the progress on my car as well as issues he found from the previous work done by it. Overall in the end the car finally runs and everything works inside. They gave me the confidences knowing that this car will start up and take me to point A to point B, while enjoy every bit of the mods I've invested in this engine to work properly. These are the guys made me feel that all my hard work and money did not go to waste on this little civic, yeah I could of cut my losses and buy another and much faster car but what's the fulfillment in that?
