How much do I love the Villarena? A LOT!…read more
I recently had the good fortune to stay here for a week, and it was utter bliss.
"Cocktail trees" (growing both limes and lemons) litter the grounds around the serene swimming pool. Lounge chairs are scattered around. The pool area is BLISS!
This is an old Roman villa, that has been modernized, and separated into unique rooms and apartments. No two are the same, and there are accommodations for whatever group type or solo traveler you happen to be. I happened to stay (with 3 of my pals) in the Germania, a 2 BR/2 BA apartment, and it was fantastic. My only suggestion would be to get beds that are a touch larger in the downstairs bedroom. Also, the Wifi on the grounds didn't seem to make it inside the apartment, however, on the terrace, it was fine! The full kitchen in this apartment was modern and well appointed.
The food. THE FOOD! The Villa has their own private brand of olive oil and wine. The proprietor, affectionately called "Big G" is a sommelier, so there are wine tastings and wine pairing dinners. Happy chickens on site provide eggs for the delicious breakfasts. Lasagne, pizza, pasta . . . any Italian delicacy can be served to you for dinner. Everything was delicious.
The staff was A JOY! From the aforementioned "Big G" to Maria Teresa (the heart and soul of the outfit, we love her!) to everyone, a nicer bunch you will not find. Helpful, accommodating, friendly and fun!!
If you're a family, there is a playground (complete with a turtle!) for the kiddies. Thankfully, none were present for our stay, but if you need that sort of thing, they can accommodate you!
I can't wait to return.
