Not to be dramatic, but this school has changed our lives! We have had the best experience at MACS!…read moreMy daughter started kindergarten in the fall, and she has truly transformed during her time at the school so far. She comes home every day and tells me what she is learning in class and what her favorite activities are (she loves the indoor playground with the rock climbing wall the best). Ms. Thomas and Ms. Sanchez are WONDERFUL homeroom teachers! The Expedition teachers (Social Studies, PE, Coding, Science) are also all so wonderful! I love that the school focuses on emotional intelligence as well as traditional studies, plus a heavy dose of STEM-focused learning. Watching my daughter interact with the other scholars in her class is remarkable. I have NEVER seen 5-6yo kids work together in such a seamless, cohesive way, and it really speaks to how the schools teaches them to be a supportive team. I think there are MANY MANY MANY benefits of this sort of education that focuses on 21st century skills AND emotional growth is the future, and I don't think you'll find anywhere that gets it right quite like MACS! There have been a FEW (very few) occasions where the school has had to cancel aftercare suddenly or change plans in some way, but they are extremely good at communicating these changes. Please remember that this is a new, grassroots school that is community based and community supported. Smaller/newer schools are navigating different challenges than established public schools, so give them some grace as they work through these challenges. These unexpected changes are simply just VERY OCCASIONAL "growing pains" since it is such a new organization, but we have not experienced anything drastic or anything that has made us question the school's ability to give our child the best educational experience. If anything, I feel like they communicate changes so well and create a sense that we are all a big team and work together for all of the children. I love that they encourage families to be involved. I love being a part of a meaningful organization in my community. I love meeting the other parents and scholars. It truly feels like we are one team with the same goal.

After reviewing the website, reading a few reviews, and even looking at other tutoring options, I decided to reach out. I submitted the contact from on the website and received an email a few hours later which was great (talk about a prompt response). I scheduled a consult for the next day and received a call from Dr. Jackson who was the sweetest and gave me tons of info about the center along what my son would learn. Needless to say we started a few days after the initial consult and he did a 1 hour assessment with Dr. Jackson during his first session to establish areas of strengths and things that needed to be worked on. Afterwards she provided me with helpful information on where he stood and we discussed goals for him. Fast forward seven months and we couldn't be more happy with his progression in reading, writing, phonics, and reading comprehension. The staff at the center are simply wonderful. Every teacher is so kind and truly meets my kiddo where he is and makes learning fun. They offer tutoring in several areas, provide monthly progress reports, and I love how they celebrate students. If you're looking for a little extra help for your kiddo in a small learning environment where they can learn, grow more confident in their learning and have fun all at the same time, the Literacy Doctor is the place to go!

This has been a very easy experience for my daughter! With all of the changes with the pandemic,…read moreshe was struggling with the concepts of phonics and just putting the words together. It seemed to be where she was becoming intimidated by reading and in our family, we love to read! It was heartbreaking and with the emotional component, harder for me (her mother) to TEACH her myself. Literacy Doctor is personable and Dr. Virginie genuinely cares about my daughters progress and invests her time with us! Note my daughter is actually trying to read anything on her own. She is engaged and wants to improve on her own! Some nights I have to make her put her iPad down! We always loved story time but not she wants to read them!! I wish she was a teacher my children had in their school!! You can't go wrong with this program for your children! I wish I had it before there was an issue! Start early! Your kids will love it!!
