Here we are in this crazy, COVID-laden world and all I hear are "get tested" and "get vaccinated"…read morepractically every day. We've been dealing with this for two years now and it's getting quite tiresome honestly. Nevertheless, when I finally made the conscious decision to get vaccinated, I was trying to figure out where to go and found out that my local health department gives out the vaccine and you can choose which one you want. I was able to register online for my appointment. When I got my first two shots, I went to the vaccine clinic that the health department was holding at Howard County Community College. I recently got my booster and this time, I went to the actual health department location on Stanford Blvd in Columbia. Each visit was pretty seamless. I checked in, they verified which vaccine I was getting and if it was my first, second, or third shot, and then I got in line to wait for the next available nurse to give me the vaccine. Afterwards, they have a waiting area and ask you to wait 15 minutes to make sure you don't have any bad reactions to the vaccine and then you're on your way. The Howard County Health Department also offers COVID testing and distributes at-home tests as well. I'm hoping to see an end to this frenzy soon but I'm thankful that HoCo Health Department has been very helpful through all of this.

The testing lines seem to be long everywhere and here is no exception. On this Monday morning they were giving out 400 at home test kits and doing onsite testing from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. People started lining up at 6 AM for the at home test. Around 8 AM one of the employees came out and they passed out tickets to the first 200 people in line. This guarantee that each of them would receive two tests. Everyone else was sent home because there were no more tests available. But most of those people just walk and get into the line for the whole on site testing. There were a lot of walk-ups it only a few people who showed up with appointments. If you look online there were no appointments available. The weights were pretty long considering people waited over an hour before the doors even opened. Once they started the line move pretty quickly. Hopefully the situation improves and the testing locations will have the small backyards in the near future. Overall they are doing a pretty good job at the Howard county health department.

After having my vitals taken, I brought back to an exam room. The practitioner was behind schedule and came in 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment. Despite the delay, I was very pleased with the practitioner. She was patient and and knowledgeable. I didn't feel rushed. She even took the time to look up my records as we were trying to determine what prescription I had taken previously for the same symptoms I am experiencing. Overall, I would definitely return if I needed immediate medical attention.

When I arrived at 9:15 ( early to complete paperwork), I was told 'oh no we don't start appointments until 10:00am', so I was very un-happy to discover they wouldn't take me until 10:00am. (Though they did say everyone was there, maybe they would see me early, but I wasn't called back until 9:55am). Once back in the office, I discovered I wasn't allowed to take video or pictures for my husband who couldn't be there, despite me asking prior if I would be able to. They said I can only live facetime or Zoom, so I had to quickly rush call him to see if he could be available. but again..things they confirmed on the phone :( The tech I had specifically was fine. She made the experience interesting, walked me through everything I was seeing, gave a lot of detail, and told me exactly what to expect. We ended up needing to schedule follow-ups, but her overview was in-depth and I don't feel stressed with 'what-ifs' or 'what next' because she prepared me. So overall 5 stars for the tech! But 2 stars for the office scheduling and issues, averaged to about a 3 experience for me.

Seeing a specialist was easier than some insurances initially but then got harder when I asked to see the one I needed and they sent me to every other one wasting time and money. They misdiagnosed me once they saw mental symptoms when there was a medical reason, caused the problem to get worse and then it took me forever to figure out what I needed because they made me doubt myself. They did not really listen and got annoyed the more I got frustrated after being pushed off for years. They also told me I had to wait 5 years for a pap as I was in pain and sitting there legs spread ready for the pap and they took the smear and threw it away instead of sending it in and caused me extreme pain until switching doctors. However the nurses are friendly and the S Baltimore urgent care is nice but overall they are systematically severely flawed.

I am known for being a very hard stick and I tend to be chronically dehydrated... The front desk is staffed well with friendly, professional, and attentive individuals. The doctors are very busy and they have the forms done via print, complete, and emails. Getting an appointment may be a bit of a wait, but worth it. Tip: if you need anything quickly discussed during your visit, write it down and bring it with you ... This is easier than trying to remember on the spot :)

She took alot of information over the phone and confirmed we were eligible for services. My son was having terrible depression and anxiety at the time and needed care. We were told it would be 8 weeks for an appointment and that someone would call us to set up the appointment after the over the phone conversation. No one ever called. My son ended up in the hospital waiting for care. I would NEVER recommend this place if you are in need of help. They dont even take mental health care seriously to even call people back. As much as people are suffering we couldnt even get a phone call. Luckily we were able to get him treated but it cost a pretty penny, sad that this place catered towards people with lower incomes treats people who are already struggling so poorly. Wouldnt recommend to anyone, they do not care about you I promise.
