This is a decent mall in the Rue Sainte-Catherine area. It has a large Double Tree hotel connected to it, as well as some large office buildings. There's a huge food court with lots of restaurants in it on the lower level, but if you go during lunch be prepared for long lines due to all the offices nearby. There are many stores, mostly women's clothing stores. There are other restaurants nearby and attached as well and they offer full service. read more

BEWARE of the women's bathrooms in this mall. Recently I saw a man lying on the floor in one of the stalls watching the women in the other stalls. He may have been taking pics. Also at that time there was a man in another stall using the toilet. Creepy weepy!! I notified security. And the security there isn't so great. On my first visit to Montreal last week, I learned about Montreal's "Underground City" - a series of interconnected office towers, hotels, shopping centers, residential and commercial complexes, and more in Montreal's central business district. I'm sure it's amazing in winter, when Montreal residents can stay below ground where it's warm and access all kinds of buildings and facilities without braving the wintery weather above. But in summer, it was still cool to explore. I wandered through the Underground City and found Complexe Desjardins - a mixed use building complex connected to the Underground City. It's mixed use, but the part I explored is a shopping mall with a fountain, shops, and food options. It was cool to explore but the shops close early! read more

Complexe Desjardins is a mixed-use office, hotel, and shopping mall complex located in Montreal, in the Quartier des spectacles area of Saint Catherine Street. The project was designed to develop the eastern end of downtown Montreal, it is located in the quadrilateral formed by Saint Catherine, Saint-Urbain, Jeanne Mance and René Lévesque Boulevard. I feel the shopping options are varied and very boutique-like. Not many huge department stores here. But one of the highlights of this complex is the large food court...if you are in the Quartier des Spectacles and you are not wanting to wait the long lines for the food trucks, you can always come to the food court at Desjardins and get many options of grub. I love that it's very centrally located, just a few blocks from Chinatown, Rene Levesque, the red light district, the business district of St Catherine, the festival area and the Village. If I had to start this review with a catch phrase, it would be: "The seventies are underrated!" Complexe Desjardins is the (mixed use) shopping center with which I am most familiar in greater Montreal. I like it. I don't know when it was built, but it looks like it got its inspiration around 1978 or 1979! It basically takes up an entire downtown block, and I usually have seen it and approached it the most from Rene-Levesque and St.-Urbain. This means that, being one block west of Blvd. St.-Laurent which demarcates east and west, it is squarely in Centre-Ville. What they did is erect a massive podium-like structure in which the shopping center is mostly located and then placed 4 similarly styled towers at the edges, at each major corner. I can't name but two of the towers: one is for Caisse Desjardins and the other is the Hyatt Regency. I believe the others are high-end office space. Getting back to the shopping center, it's built around the large interior atrium and on different levels around the perimeter. In this way, it's different from lengthy, linear Centre Eaton in Toronto. However, both have one major similarity inside: a large central fountain that periodically expels a stream of water high up into the air. At Complexe Desjardins, this spectacle is, at times, also augmented by lighting. The shopping can be upmarket, mid-market, or practical in nature. At ground level, there is a pharmacy-market as well as a Budget-Avis location. I'm not big on shopping since I find it tedious. Mostly, I've come here to eat or just sit, regroup, and watch the fountain and Montrealers being Montrealers. Most of the fast food places are on the northern edge of the complex, toward St.-Catherine Ouest, and this includes the constantly busy McDonald's. Overall, it's a practical sort of shopping center. It doesn't have the sorts of stores you might see on Sherbrooke-O., around Place-Bonaventure, or out by the Atwater Metro. However, with its spread of price points, you are likely to find something you want and can afford. Lastly, it's not a stroke of trendiness. Instead, it's a dated but still very dignified brick cladded complex that is aging well and has a good feel about it. read more

Complexe Desjardins in a mall in downtown Montreal, connected to Place des Arts. It was a block away from my hotel. After having dinner in Chinatown and exploring the area, I walked back with a large mango lychee slush beverage and dropped by this mall to take a look before heading back to the hotel. Naturally, you can do your banking at the Desjardins ATMs when you first walk in from the Rene-Levesque Boulevard West entrance. There is an IGA that originally piqued my interest, as I love wandering into grocery stores. A colleague had mentioned that there is a food court if you want to grab dinner there and don't want to go very far. I was there to take in the water fountain. I have seen so many beautiful pictures of it on Yelp that I needed to see it myself. Sure enough, the water fountain changes colour. I sat there for probably an hour, sipping my massive slush and witnessed every single colour you could think of. It's a fun mall. There's a huge Poloroid camera where you can take photos. There are bird decorations dangling from the ceiling. Kids love running around the main floor where there are balloons and other colourful objects that make them happy. Frankly, this mall makes me happy as far as esthetics go. As with most downtown malls, when they cater the financial sector, the store selection isn't as interesting than going to a mall that doesn't have stuffy business folks. Still, it's decent if you're staying down here and crave a mall. I'd come back to see the water fountain again. I felt relaxed and happy seeing it. (316) read more

Complexe Desjardins is a shopping mall that's connected to the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Place des Arts. It's big and the atrium is beautiful with a huge water fountain that has water and light shows. There's also a carousel. The mall looks very pretty, but the selection of stores is not great. While the building is huge, most of it is office spaces, so the retail area is not really that big. The only store I ever go to is Winners, lol. And the Winners has a terrible layout too. It's one of those "urban concept" layouts. It doesn't stop me from shopping there though, haha. The mall is a bit of a maze with lots of entrances and exits. Where will you end up when you resurface? It's a surprise! Lol. There's a food court which is a mix of huge international chains (like McDonald's and Subway), smaller chains (like Tiki-Ming and Koryo) and independents (like Jiggs). They have a few sit-down restaurants too, nothing fancy though, just St Hubert, Eggspectations, Baton Rouge, Mike's, and La Cage. It's also connected to the Place des Arts Metro station and the RESO underground pathway, but it's the eastern arm of the RESO that I'm not too familiar with. You can still get to Place Ville Marie which then connects you to the central part of RESO. Complexe Desjardins, to Complexe Guy-Favreau, then Palais des Congres, CDPQ, Place Bonaventure, Le 1000, Gare Centrale, then Place Ville Marie. Worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Hazy is my recollection of this giant shopping mall, for a few reasons. The first of which is that I was in Montreal in the heat of summer, and oppressive sweating notwithstanding, I'm not going there to spend a bunch of time inside. So my time inside was limited to curiosity about what in the world this massive place was. My other hazy recollection was of that hazy, misty, brightly lit fountain in the middle of the place, which is certainly not something I've seen before in all my (limited) fountain-gazing days. In fact, the whole vibe and decor is somewhat modern and artsy, which does help ease the pain of spending a few precious Montreal moments out of the glorious weather to be inside a mall. I think if it was raining, this would be a place to go to sit for a spell. But even at that with all the art galleries and museums and incredible restaurants it's really hard to imagine wanting to spend a ton of time in retail-land. But if that's your jam, this shopping center is your jelly. read more

Gorgeous mall I never come to this spot as it's out of the way but I did come for the cider tasting event and it was pretty lovely. The only thing that sucks about the location is that a lot of trouble goes on outside and inside the mall with a lot of people on drugs so you'll hear some yelling like I did. They have a really big screen the projects videos sometimes which is a nice touch if you're waiting for someone to finish up shopping. read more

More large office towers with 2 levels of retail than a mall, with some useful shops including a large grocery store, a pharmacy, a Dollarama, and a tiny Winners. There is free wifi and I really enjoy the special events in the main space. The IGA carries a small selection of baked goods from Arhoma (so yummy!) and has fresh mini donuts. Also, you can return beverage cans and bottles to the service desk for refund (on my last visit, there was a handy machine that compacted the cans and dispensed a receipt to cash out). I love that there is a recycling room on the South end of the tunnel level that accepts small batteries, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and disposable chopsticks, as well as regular recycling and composting. Part of the underground network that connects Place d'Armes to Place des Arts, I appreciate being able to walk through during bad weather, as it always feels safe and clean. read more

This shopping complex looks large on the outside, but upon entering you will notice it is actually quite compact. It is not as overwhelming as what you might find at the Toronto Eaton Centre or West Edmonton Mall, but it has all the basics you need. The fountain in the centre of the mall is absolutely spectacular and for many, including me, that is the main highlight of coming here. Unfortunately, I never got to see the water rush all the way up to the top, however, I was still awed by the beauty of it. There is an IGA grocery store attached to the complex which is very convenient should you need to get any groceries while in Downtown. They also have your usual stores like Dollarama and Winners, along with the usual food court and a few restaurants and clothing shops here and there. The DoubleTree by Hilton is also attached to this place. Complexe Desjardins is part of the Montreal Underground City, therefore providing easy access to other attractions such as the Place Des Arts which happens to be right next door. Also, the majority of this complex is composed of office towers related to the company Desjardins. Although I was more than satisfied with this mall, 4 stars will do since I did not find this mall as exciting as what you might find elsewhere (such as the malls I listed earlier). However, given the numerous office buildings nearby, it's completely understandable as to why this place is not like what you'd find in a place like Toronto. read more

I really don't know what to think of the Underground City. I know it's necessary for the rough weather seasons but if you are used to the stand alone malls we have in the US then you are going to be a bit shocked. Because it's HUGE. 20+ miles huge. I took my daughter to check it out and we entered in the the Complexe Desjardins entrance. That center was okay. But pretty. There was a really big supermarket called IGA which was fun to walk around and see Canadian producst. The other mall stores however were not really for the younger set but it did have the coolest chocolate store there called Chocolat Favoris. We had the best chocolate dipped cones we ever had in our lives there. Highly recommend. The food court also looked cool but we had already had lunch before we got there. We finally asked someone what part of the Underground City was best and he sent us over the Eaton. Go there. More of the modern stores are there. I think it's pretty amazing that Montreal folks probably have this Underground City memorized. read more

I had something to downtown so I decided to come here for lunch since one of the restaurants that I liked was located in Complexe Desjardin's food court. During COVID-19 (or the restrictions which were currently in effect at the time that I visited since the COVID-19 restrictions change on a weekly/monthly basis), restaurants are allowed take out orders only and in the shopping malls that I've visited, the restaurants in the food courts would normally be open but the dining area of the food court would be cordoned off. When I went to Complexe Desjardins on March 17, 2021 to grab a bite to eat (after not having been downtown in over a year), I found that they closed their entire food court area. In fact, it was boarded closed. I was so disappointed after having walked ~15 minutes to get there. Before leaving, I went to the information desk and asked if the entire food court was closed (because maybe there was another entrance that I wasn't aware of) and was informed that it was closed due to renovations. I decided to leave and walk towards McGill metro to grab something to eat in that vicinity. read more

I didn't expect much when I look at the facade of Complexe Desjardins... I don't even know it is a shopping centre... All I remember that it is cold and windy and anywhere indoor is a relief... Such a huge open space with huge windows and skylights... You can find your usual retail stores here and even a hotel on site. The mall is connected to an IGA supermarket. I went into the IGA not knowing it would lead to this beautiful mall. Various shops that I didn't recognize; French/Canadian brands more than brands in the U.S. They did have couple of chocolate and desserts shops that looked so decadent. It was late so most of them were closed. Being that I visited during the Montreal Jazz Festival, the mall was surprisingly open for people to stroll and watch the fountain show that occurred every hour (I think). You need to catch this display, equipped with music and dancing lights. The Canadians are so classy and polite, and there was applause after the show ended. I love this kind of culture. And it's underneath the Hyatt Hotel which turned out to be right in the center of the main outdoor stage during the Festival. A beautiful mall to visit. Like all of Montreal, it's very clean and you'll encounter friendly, polite Canadians. read more

This is a beautiful mall right in the middle of the place des arts district. When I first came to Montreal over 5 years ago, I came to this mall and found it to be a nice retreat after walking through the city. Food court eatery: Koryo Korean Barbeque Awful bibimbap and experience!! Ordered a chicken bibimbap for lunch and got a bowl of dry hard warm rice with some steamed veggies and sprinkle of chicken pieces that probably accumulated to 1 tbsp. There was a small fried egg on top that was pre-cooked with a thin line of sauce. Unappetizing - lacked flavour and looked like something my 8 year could put together! To add to this awful meal, gave the cashier $50 for the $12.18 meal. She only gave me back $17.80. If I didn't say anything that would have been a $32 bowl of garbage!!! Go elsewhere if you want a quick meal. I don't usually comment but this exchange of money was not worth it. read more

I would never come here to shop because the stores are not impressive, but it is an extremely convenient and well located complex if you happen to be near the festival sites or Chinatown. Whenever I am at a festival at the Quartier Des Spectacles, coming in this mall is always a nice relief to cool down with some air conditioner, take a seat or use the clean restrooms. This mall has a bit of everything, if you need a bite to eat, there is a food court but also an IGA supermarket, SAQ, ice cream shop, a pharmacy among other clothing boutiques. The lower floor is very spacious, home to a huge water fountain that shoots up all the way to the ceiling, which always seems to thrill kids. The ample space is also used to host a series of events throughout the year, such cheese and wine samplings, mini job fairs or information sessions. read more

It's an ok mall. I find it very elegant and spacious, but there aren't that many stores inside. I used to have my hair cut here because my friend worked at one of the salons. So I know the mall pretty well. I enjoy the book store and the seating options, but I wouldn't visit to shop. read more

This is a pretty cool mall! And the fountain in the middle is awesome, the umbrellas go up and down and the fountain goes really high up into the air. Its like its raining from the ground. I always make it a point to stop here when I am in Montreal just to watch the Water Fountain Show for a brief time of reflection and pure enjoyment. There are some interesting stores on both levels of the complex and a wonderful IGA market as well. IGA's in Quebec are quite different from the ones stateside mostly due to the varied French Canadian products they carry as well as products from France and other foreign countries. This mall is interconnected to Chinatown and and Quartier des Spectacles by an underground passage way which ultimately leads you to the Metro. You just have to appreciate how Montreal is so easily navigated by underground walk ways and a world class Metro system. The food court located here is great for a quick bite or snack and there are several sit down restaurants, if you wish to have table service. read more

This is the Sherman Oaks Square of Montreal except that it's a lot prettier inside. Complexe Desjardins is a very large shopping mall with some very instagrammable decor but otherwise, serves no purpose except to protect you from rain or intense heat. There is no shopping available so to speak. IDK, not much of a selection, don't waste your time. read more

Located right next to the Museum of Contemporary Art and in Place des Arts, this shopping centre is located directly underneath the Hyatt. Inside is a small foodcourt and McDonalds in the basement along with a beautiful water fountain. There are 4 phone charging stations that are powered when you cycle on the spot - a pretty neat idea, although not that practical. On weekend, around half the stores in the mall is closed, but there are usually events happening by the water fountain. The mall itself is very spacious with high ceilings, apart from the basement that often feels very cramped and stuffy. There is an IGA in the basement, located beside the Source, off to one side. read more

Was shopping here on Monday evening when a few exits were blocked before 6 pm with no directions/help offered on how to leave the building - 'Sorry, you can't leave here' - Where can we leave?' - 'there are other exits open'. We ended up circling inside of the building trying to get out. Finally, got out and had to walk all around the building in the rain to get back to the hotel. Complex Desardins is quite interesting that it's a mall. Although I don't see many stores that wow me! 14 women's stores and barely any men's stores (4 eek). It does however have a food court and IGA plus a health club. If you are staying at the Hyatt or live or work nearby then this is super convenient! This is the underground mall everyone talks about . It was right underneath our hyatt hotel. The mall is huge with a bit fointain in the center. The stores are ok and mostly all local mom and pop as far i can see. No big departmental stires or atleast none that i could see. The mall hosts a big food court. The biggest i have seen. Nothing that big in US. The food court is very very.good. it caters to all food types ... italian, middle eastern, chinese, sandwich, coffee, thai etc etc. It is one of the best mall food court i have seen. Also the fact it is under tue hyatt hotel it is easilt accessible and we loved the easy access for the couple days we were there. NEVER GO TO SUKIYAKI NEVER NEVER NEVER I ordered two beef teriyaki with rice by accident, at first the lady serving me was completely oblivious to this mistake, after repeating myself four times she snarled at me and finally decided to reimburse the second one after the cook started yelling at her. The beef is coated in a thick layer of fat.. more fat than meat. Found hairs in my rice -/+ 5 times in the past month.. Found pieces of plastic in my soup over 8 times in the past month... Found a piece of meat/fat/nerves/brains/?? in my soup... Main experience.. if you want a $1 plate priced up to $8 definitely go there..
