I can't speak highly enough about Starr Sports Physical Therapy! In August of 2019, I severely fractured 3 metatarsal bones and tore a ligament in my left foot. I had surgery in September to place plates and screws in my foot to fuse the ligament. I started going to Starr Sports about 1-month post-op, unable to bear any weight on my foot and with severe muscle atrophy in my left calf. I worked with Dr. Marvin Catibog, who was truly a savior - he's extremely knowledgeable, caring, and very patient. I felt significant progress almost immediately. Within a month I was walking again, and the swelling in my foot almost completely subsided. I had a second surgery in January to remove the hardware place in my foot. The recovery the second time around was a lot easier and quicker, which I credit to all the PT I had done leading up to it. I was walking again within 10 days. As someone who has always been active, it was a frustrating process not being able to do my normal day to day activities, but Dr. Catibog's motivation, well planned out exercises, and constant reinforcement kept me going and significantly helped in my recovery. Even when the office closed down due to COVID-19, Dr. Catibog continued to check in with me and did weekly FaceTime assessments to ensure I was keeping up with my exercises and not following behind with my progress. I'm now 6 months post my second surgery, and I'm working out daily and running 2-3 times a week without any issues. read more

I was referred by a friend - called Dr. Starr literally from a street corner where I was experiencing a severe back spasm and could barely move. He was able to see me immediately. I walked into the office help walking into the office not being able to get into a chair. The staff was understanding and nurturing. Dr. Starr gave me a gentle adjustment which was followed by an acupuncture treatment. I was in much less pain and more mobile by the time I left. I came twice a week for about 3-4 weeks. This was over 10 mos ago and I have not had any back issues since. Recently had foot surgery and returned for an accupuncture visit. Office is very clean and state of the art. Dr. McGill & Marvin are the best. Both of them have the patience to invest the time to understand your ailments. Unlike at some other wellness centers I've been to, every visit is designed to address specific tightness, mobility, or pain issues that you're experiencing. There's a dialogue as opposed to a prescriptive formula. They check for range of motion, imbalances, and tightness at the beginning of every visit and then use a combination of manual therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, heat, electric stimulation, Graston Technique, and Kinesio Tape. Kia & her team are outstanding at keeping everyone at the office organized. There's barely a wait, despite visits being as extensive as your body needs to feel better. It's a great atmosphere where you feel welcome, but also professional and dedicated to helping you recover. I highly recommend this office to anyone from a desk jockey to a serious athlete. Dr. Marvin Catibog was incredible in helping me recover from a knee injury. He determined the root of the problem, was attentive with how to strengthen the muscles around the knee, and got me back to full strength in half the time that the doctor prescribed. Not only did he tend to my initial injury, but he also assisted with a lingering shoulder issue that I had been dealing with for years. The kindness from everyone in this office made it an enjoyable experience every time I had to come in. This place is absolutely amazing! I have been to at least a dozen different chiropractors in my 40 years on this planet, but Starr Chiropractic is, by far, the best and most unique experience I've had. I've been going for a few weeks for lower back pain and shoulder pain and I'm already feeling so much better than I have in years. I have been going there to treat my lower back pain for a year and half now. The practice went through some staffing issue last summer but the new team in placed now is phenomenal. The chiro (Dr. Passanante), acupuncturist (Brian), PT (Marvin) as well as office staffs (Cesar and Kia) are all very friendly and knowledgeable. I really enjoy the adjustment from the chiro..I think my body goes into withdraw if I don't get my chiropractic treatment twice a week. After 30 mins of chiro treatment, I get about 45 mins of acupuncture treatment. I went from being scared of needles (when I first started last year) to enjoying my weekly acupuncture treatment. I find both treatments to be helpful in terms of relieving my lower back pain. read more

I've been visiting this office for the last 3 years, and it has nothing but positive experience for me. No matter what the issue is, a body ache or recovery after surgical procedure, they were able to make me get better in no time. While it was sad to see some of the previous chiropractors go, the new staff is always top-notch. Negative stars please! I like the other reviewer tried to get scammed by Dr. Starr! In my case he did take insurance. Basically, I have extremely stiff shoulders. I needed some help so I looked up chiropractors that are in network. Dr. Starr's business partner who is no longer with the office popped up. The receptionist said, no problem as a courtesy we will take you and honor your insurance. Now according to my insurance coverage I have 24 visits and a $35 dollar co pay. They tried to tell me that I also need to cover my $600 deductable. This felt extremely wrong to me so I declined service. Then they ushered me to his office. Dr. Starr tried to manipulate me into going through with it and tried to tell me that all he wants to do is help, I need to come in 3 times a week, and he is doing me a favor with my insurance. First off... called my insurance company and all I am responsible for was the co pay no deductible! Second, 3 times a week for stiff shoulders from having a desk job? I mean come on! I do not have a herniated disk! So I went for a free consult elsewhere and they said that twice a month will suffice. Stay far far away... his used car salesmen technique is deplorable. He will try and tell you how much he wants to help you but all he really wants is money. read more

I have been going to Dr. Starr for a few years and I think they are the best all in 1 place for physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage. The staff is extremely friendly and really care about your well being and health. Recently I sprained my ankle so badly that I couldn't put any weight on it at all! I went to see the physical therapist Marvin about 4 or 5 times a week and I got a few acupuncture sessions per week as well. This combination was so helpful to reduce my swelling and it greatly reduced my recovery time. They also gave me suggestions to help my ankle at home ex: gentle stretches with a stretchy band, and drinking turmeric tea. Within about a month, I was up and walking again. I am so thankful to the Dr. Starr team to help me walk again! I still see the staff at Dr. Starr because I am regaining strength in my ankle as I am now in the later stages of recovery. I have complete trust in Marvin and all the staff at Dr. Starr. I highly recommend going to Dr. Starr if you have an injury due to some sort of trauma, or if you have chronic pain. On another note, the front desk staff are not only friendly and welcoming, but they are extremely organized and always know what your itinerary is for each session and they never keep you waiting. They also play great music throughout the facilities! (A mix of hip hop, 90s, 2000s, motown, classic pop etc.) I leave Dr. Starr feeling better 100% of the time! read more

I hate change. I actually despise it. I am one of those people who finds something, and then I tell myself why change it when it works? However, when you move to NYC and the doctor you have been seeing for years lives over an hour away, the realization that a change is necessary sets in. This office, this staff and their knowledge of service is top notch. They have made the change so easy for me! I have had neck problems for years since an injury in high school, and it wasn't until Dr. Passanante spent over an hour with me that we found the root of the problem. Needless to say I am a 45 year old woman in mid-twenty year old's body, I will probably need a chiropractor on-call always. The good news is, I am fully confident that Dr. Passanante's chiro work will get me closer to avoiding this. Kia at the front desk is a peach, Ceasar, who handles insurance, has gone out of his way to help me understand what I don't about bills and claims, and Dr. Starr, the owner, introduced himself within the first 5 minutes of me walking through the door my first day. I would recommend this practice to anyone who needs Chiropractic, Physical Therapy or Acupuncture services. I have yet to use the ladder of the two, or the doctors who provide those services, but I know that if I need to, they are who I would see. Dr. Starr with his professional team and staff are the best. I was getting headaches so bad that no pain reliever was even helping anymore. I started feeling better within the first couple of adjustments (my neck and upper back muscles were so tight that it was pulling on my vertebrae which led to misalignment). All headaches are gone and now continue to see Dr. Passanante 2-3X a month to maintain good health. They encouraged me to start incorporating Acupuncture into my sessions for nasal congestion, headaches and releasing of toxins out of my body that cause minor issues to evolve to bigger issues, Rebekah the acupuncturist has great bedside manner and has a soft hand with the needles, I was very very hesitant and scared with needles but it's really not what you think once you try it. Over all Dr. Starr is an extremely arrogant doctor who is all about the money. He immediately tries to "sell" you his machine which requires you to go to his office 3+ times a week and conveniently doesn't take in network insurance. It's a scam. I was never so offended by a "doctor" in my life. Also, I went in for bulging discs in my neck and he put me on a machine for my lower back and of course billed my insurance a small fortune. When I questioned it, he ignored me and said it was part of an "overall treatment plan". Go to a real doctor. read more

I actually received great care from and had an amazing experience with them - Dr. Passanante took a long time to explain every procedure and why it was being done, Dr. Marvin also was very careful and guided me through physical therapy. Everyone in the office is supremely courteous (shout out to Kia and Cesar!) I went there for a little over a month, following their recommendations, and my back pain is gone! I used to get tension headaches basically weekly and I haven't had one since I started going to them. I kinda used to think that chiropractice was a little "quack-y" but I really can't argue with the results; and again, I really appreciated how everyone really took the time to answer all my questions and make sure that I was comfortable with everything. I went to Starr Clinic with severe neck and upper back pain a few months ago. I was in severe pain, which was a huge problem both personally and professionally. A few weeks to consistent PT, massage and strengthening exercises have done wonders. Marvin is an excellent physiotherapist. My pain is all gone and now I am working on building strength to prevent any further episodes. Peter has also been great in working with me on various strength exercises and stretches. I went here for a problem with my back and lower neck. Kia and Cesar in the office are very nice and it was always pleasant walking in. I saw all three doctors for Acupuncture, Chiropracture and Physical Therapy. I liked their use of these 3 treatments in concert with each other. All 3 doctors were very friendly and chatting with them helped create a welcoming atmosphere. The facility is very clean and modern with lots of windows and sunlight. I came here three times a week for three months to do physical therapy after an ankle injury/surgery and had the best experience. Dr. Starr and his team were always professional, friendly and accommodating. I've been going to Starr for a year and a half now, for back and leg pain. It has made a huge difference in my day to day comfort, and I go twice a week. Marvin (PT) focused on a combination of recovery and strengthening exercises, and doesn't limit it to the area where I feel discomfort. He has a deep understanding of how all movements and muscles work together, and is then able to address the source of the issue. I see both Marvin and Dr. Joe for joint PT and chiropractic care. It's great to get both in the same place because so often the practices end up working against each other. I injured my hamstring and then developed some back issues. This was the first place to suggest the issues may be related. After working with both doctors for some time, I rarely have back issues anymore, and they are helping me keep an eye on the leg. As a dancer, the back and legs are vital to the longevity of my career. I'd recommend this practice to anyone, especially those with very physically active lifestyles. read more

I have only had very positive experiences at Starr. I injured my lower back last summer, with a partial disc herniation just at my tailbone, and when I first came in I could barely walk. I first worked closely with Dr. Grover and Dr. Wiley on reducing inflammation and healing enough for me to start physical therapy with Dr. Marvin Catibog. The entire staff is amazing, but Dr. Marvin had to deal with extra complaints and pushback from me - he is incredibly patient and cares deeply about his patients. Physical therapy is incredibly taxing and difficult, and Dr. Marvin's gentle but effective approach is what helped get me back to being able to run 9 months post-injury. Even during COVID quarantine, I injured my shoulder, and Dr. Marvin was available to me via FaceTime. After leaving my business card at my gym's raffle for a complimentary massage, I was connected to Starr Physical Therapy. I scheduled the massage right away since the hustle and bustle of being a New Yorker can really be a drag! I was given an appointment quickly and efficiently. On the day of my appointment, I was greeted by Kia who is such a professional and caring manager and their friendly receptionist, Vanessa. I was given a form to fill out about my general health and then consulted by Dr. Starr (their Director) after mentioning pain in my back and knee. It's important to mention this because, although I was only coming in just for a massage, I felt that they took everything into account and genuinely cared about my overall well-being. The massage therapist was great--the massage was relaxing and individualized to my needs. Dr. Starr recommended I come back based on his analysis of my pain. When I came in for my second appointment, I took x-rays in order to confirm information critical for a treatment plan--all was done in a courteous, professional and informative way. I waited some time to write a review because I wanted to be sure I gave an honest account of my treatment (I am now on my fourth week of treatment). All appointments have started on time and I have been getting on track to my ultimate health. I want to thank Dr. Joe Passanante (Chiropractor) and Dr. Marvin Catibog (Physical Therapist) who together have been the perfect team for me. The Starr staff and providers are amazing. They look and treat beyond the superficial to get to the cause of an issue, then develop a plan to fix it. David Starr is not "curious" as to why I waited years to provide a review; he's just pissed about getting a bad review, that's all. As for "it has always been our policy to obtain a thorough history and perform a comprehensive physical exam, including spinal X-rays, prior to any treatment" that may be his "policy" but it is not what happened. The experience at Starr Physical Therapy has been rather negative. To begin with the office itself is very nice, clean, bright, and with a nice view. I went there for both neck and shoulder pain and an upcoming knee surgery. The problem with their physiotherapy is that they only have one person on staff (so it is difficult to get a regular appointment) and they do not have the right equipment I needed to get the best results (their space is too small). If you have s serious injury it is better to go to a place that is specialized in PT. Then I had a session with the acupuncturist, who clearly had no clue what he was doing. He put needles into my knee and made me walk around, and only after I told him that I am about to fade, he allowed me to lie down. Also I told him that I am coming for my back, he never bothered to work on that, and told me that the additional needle in my big toe is also for my back. A definite no if you want proper treatment. I also tried the Chiropractic, who seems to be always in a bad mood. She was very hesitant and did not make any adjustments on my back, just on my neck. It is really important that your Chiropractic is confident, but she was not, and as such the treatment was not effective. But their biggest problem is their dubious practices to get money out of their clients. When I got there the first time they did all kinds of "tests", which was according to them necessary to make an appropriate diagnosis. I was concerned about that, because they could not tell me if those tests are covered by my insurance. After a week of dubious testing, they never bothered telling me the results. I could also never learn why they cannot call my insurance and find out if I am covered. When I decided not to come back (because I was not impressed with their level of skill) and their "money getting" practices they bombarded me with calls. Since I had already another PT at another location, I thought I go back to try another Chiropractic treatment and to finally get the result of all the tests they did. When they called me on the day to confirm the appointment they told me that I am also singed up for PT, which was very disturbing. When I got there to tell them that I never signed up for PT, but only to Chiropractic, the Chiropractic lady got all upset, and told me that they signed me up for PT because this is what I originally came for (which is not the case, as I came also for my back and shoulder). I left after that exchange, very disturbed. However, they continue to call me. I just got a call today with somebody saying that I left a message to make an appointment, which is not the case! They do anything to get money out of you. It is really a true malpractice, and they should not be allowed to do that. In any case, you are better off to try another location. I also think they changed their name, because they had so many bad reviews. . read more

Relaxing, friendly and excellent treatment. I went in to see about a neck and back injury from a fall. They were able to see me right away. I spoke to Dr. Starr who explained everything to me. His staff treated me with tissue massage, stretching, cold compress, took X-rays and acupuncture (a first for me and very pleasant). I walked in with pain and out feeling so much better. With a herniated disk in my back after having sciatica for a half a year, I went to Dr. Starr. I was afraid that it would stay with me for the rest of my life. Dr. Starr assured me that he had seen people in my situation before get better. I began treatment with him undergoing chiropractic adjustments, and acupunture. I've been a runner for the past 25 years. While marathon training last year, I developed acute pain along the back side of my leg. I also started experiencing lower back pain while cycling. I wanted to start this review by saying that Dr. Starr and his staff are Excellent and highly recommended. In the winter of November 2014, I had an ACL injury due to playing basketball. I was very concerned and upset that I needed surgery for this injury due to the fact that I am young and in my early 20's. After, my surgery I wanted to find a facility that was knowledgeable about Sports injuries. During, my first appointment at Starr Physical Therapy, Chiropractic & Acupuncture office the staff was extremely friendly and caring. The front desk staff was welcoming and polite. The most amazing thing about my experience is that I was seen on time for my schedule appointment. After, my first appointment I knew that I wanted to come back. Dr. Starr was very informative and explained to me thoroughly about my condition and treatment plan and insurance benefits. I had the greatest experience of my life with a Chiropractor. My physical therapy sessions were also great. Dr. Marvin Catibog took the time to work with me on my exercises and muscle strengthening. Currently, I am proud to say that I am a fully recovered.
