The Garage Gym - Small Space ~ Big Gains

The Garage Gym

(1 review)

There are so many good things to say about Susan Chase and the Garage Gym…read more I've never been an active or physical person. So as an adult, I've always been intimidated by anything having to do with physical activity or gyms, and it's easy to let that intimidation turn into yet another excuse to not exercise. But Susan is an amazing coach. She's not a drill sergeant who wants to berate you into working out. She's nurturing and encouraging while also holding you accountable for what you're doing. I've been working with her for 4 weeks, and the before/after stats are amazing. I didn't lose a lot of weight (this is my fault; I tend to eat like a lazy college student) but I lost inches from all over (even my neck! I didn't realize someone could lose a half inch from a neck!). I can do nearly double the number of pushups I could do at first, and 6 TIMES the number of situps. My work with her includes workout plans tailored to who I am and what I'm capable of (including offering scaled-down exercises to suit my fitness level), while pushing me to improve. And it's an awesome blend of core work, weight training, and endurance. My body and soul are enriched by working with Susan, and you should give her the opportunity to do the same for you!

I'm honestly only still at this gym because it's close to my job. They have a lot of staff members,…read morebut I'm honestly unsure what they do besides just greeting people come in. I don't think anyone really cleans there. Planet fitness keeps their facility cleaner than this. You'll see water bottles in the locker room that's been in there for a month. The carpet inside is disgusting. They even will hire anyone off the street as a "personal trainer" and it's very disappointing. Very UNSAFE as I watch this "trainer" have their client do unnecessary heavy weight

I've been a member about 5 years. I have been to all of the clubs and this location is my favorite…read more(except for the new palatial location at 435 and Metcalf). I like the equipment selection, spacing and availability. I also really like the parking - it's close by and you can see the parking lot as you work out, which is helpful for safety. During the 2020 COVID shutdown they stopped auto-billing, and after reopening they were very fair about resuming charges and applying funds plus a bonus. I have a Genesis fitness trainer that I see 2x per week for the past few years, and the trainer has been an excellent coach that helps me push hard while avoiding injury. My one issue with this club is that the flooring always looks terribly dirty. Make sure to use a mat if you are going to do anything on the floor! Otherwise it's the best club

I used to be a member of this gym and loved it! They are inside of First Baptist Church of Raytown…read moreand maintain and clean and quiet facility to work out. I joined because their prices were so incredibly cheap. If I remember, it was $24 a month. All of the treadmills have personal TV screens so you can watch a show to pass the time. It was never busy during the times I chose to work out, so I always had a good pick of machines. The bathrooms and locker areas were always cleaned and well-stocked. I had to drop my membership due to personal reasons, but if I were to ever join a gym again, ROC Fitness would be my first choice!

I've decided from past experiences, I wanted one where I could easily freeze my membership due to work travel. I wanted a gym in my area, that was less than 10 minutes away....well, I found it. I received in the mail, a flyer saying the membership fee of $29 was waived in January for Roc fitness. I chose today to go and check it out. It's a small gym, with a small equipped weight room. The weight room has set of circuit machines for upper and lower body. There's cardio machines upstairs. There's also a 14 lap walking track. They have shower rooms with lockers. Overall, it's a pretty nice place. Great price, too: $22 a month. There's a $5 locker fee if you decided to get a permanent locker, and they charge a one time fee for the usb key to program a workout. I like that idea, and am going to do that. The classes change per season. I am interested in the adagio class, and the zumba classes. The staff were very helpful, and they arrange for an orientation, after you join. There's a cafe with, from what I've heard, the best French fries in Raytown. I suppose the gym is supposed to counter act the calories in the French fries? . Edit: This place grows on you. The more I am there, the more I like it.
