Just a reflection day; I was here at the University of Iowa hospitals and clinics and I was well…read moreloved and cared for....that I got to focus on me. It's hard when you're struggling and work full time, have a pit bull who thinks he's a yorkie, and have two girls who are in all the sports, school stuff, and are just social bees...I want to be all they need and be there for everything....and it made me put myself in dead last...I am thankful for the time to write (& not scribble so much), color inside the lines (It's PCA here:), and get the motivation to be an alternate on the next Olympics team so I can walk in the parade over a press conference in a garden like two gymnasts who inspire me....and it was the dr's, nurses, assistants, support staff, and of course the snack people who made me feel ok about not being ok. I also felt the love & giggles from family and friends....that I never felt alone...I was able to write everyday, workout (I felt like Taylor Swift was watching), and have my meals prepared (and I could tell people were having a little fun with me), annnnnd be showered & tucked in for the cubbies almost every night. Savannah and Adrian visited on Mother's Day....with my favorite...homemade cards. I also received some flowers and I was most likely reading in between the lines a bit much and thought there was some special meaning behind who picked them (And if someone picked them for me and got in trouble) and spent days trying to figure out this Ducktale (like I use to do with my cousin; Danny Boy Rack) and couldn't come to a conclusion because I didn't send away for my decoder pin; pigged again! There was also a beautiful Lily plant that added to the mystery and made me think of Lily (who ices her pitching arm Jake Taylor Style) and moved on to Ragina....Is she coming back to West...Is something up? I'm most likely out to lunch so can ya just put it in my treasure box....and I'll have to buy another outfit so I can come to a meeting with all kinds of (secret society clues) all so I can continue to advocate for myself. I've taught my girls to advocate, I've advocated for anything I didn't feel was right with others, and made it my profession to teach my students verbal and nonverbal to advocate for themselves....Just need to focus on me....Honorable mention to the entire Holloway family...Keesie, ZzTop, lil bit, and Grandma; Grandma you are an inspiration to us all...#VanAllenPride You really learn to appreciate life when you struggle....the littlest things bring joy...and once you find your people you try not to ever let them go! You are my people:) In conclusion, After I served my time (in the pin) I solved the mystery....Dr. Schienholz was a woman... Sincerely, Bob Bobsled

My family & I had a very disappointing experience with Nurse Erica on 4JPP nights, while my father…read morewas receiving comfort care at the end of his life. During an incredibly difficult time, we felt there was a lack of compassion, professionalism, and communication. My father was NOT checked on or repositioned (every 2hrs) Not to mention the whole NCA fiasco! Who knows what an NCA is??? Not me & I'm an RN in many other states!!! Must be a UIHC thing. End-of-life care is one of the most important responsibilities in healthcare, and families deserve to feel supported and informed. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. I would encourage families to advocate for their loved ones and speak up if they feel their concerns are not being addressed. Or their family member is not being taken care of properly! FINAL NOTE: If your family member needs end of life care, go PALLIATIVE or with HOSPICE! DO NOT do Comfort Care!!! It's a SAD EXCUSE bc they had NO Palliative care beds available. There was nothing comforting done for my father in his LAST HOURS OF LIFE!!! Their Comfort Care (idea) is NOT up to date with CURRENT End of Life standards & practices!!!!!
