DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE! If I could give this place negative stars, I would. This is hands-down the worst sound and audio shop I've ever stepped foot in. Let me break it down so you don't make the same mistake I did: 1. Rude and Clueless Staff - The employees act like they're doing you a favor just by acknowledging your existence. I asked a simple question about speaker wattage, and the guy stared at me like I had just spoken an alien language. No knowledge, no customer service--just pure attitude. 2. Overpriced Junk - They charge INSANE prices for outdated, bottom-of-the-barrel equipment you could find online for half the price. I saw a pair of "brand new" speakers with dust all over them--they probably haven't moved in years. 3. Scam-Level Installations - If you're thinking about getting anything installed here, DON'T. I paid for a custom car audio setup, and these clowns left loose wires everywhere. My system started shorting out within days, and when I brought it back, they refused to fix their own mistakes unless I paid more! 4. Shady Business Practices - They push warranties that don't cover anything, won't honor returns, and have a "no refunds" sign conveniently hidden behind the register. The moment you hand them your money, you're stuck with whatever garbage they give you. 5. Dirty and Disgusting Store - The place smells like mold and old wires, the floor is sticky, and there's literal trash piled up behind the counter. If they put as much effort into cleaning as they do ripping people off, this place might actually be decent. STAY AWAY! I ordered a subwoofer enclosure custom fit for my vehicle, however when it arrived it did NOT fit. After telling Conpetition, they sent another enclosure that DID NOT FIT. Ordered six rolls of grille cloth online from them six weeks ago no problem. Went to order two more last night, successfully placed the order online. Within minutes, I got a text saying the order had been cancelled. I then received an email saying "I'm sorry I issued a refund because we currently changing prices on our website and this product got a price increase for this month" followed by another email right after saying "You will be able to order it , but with a different price. Thank you for dealing with competition sound." So, they had apparently not yet updated the price on their website, admitted to that, allowed me to successfully place an order, then cancelled the order immediately and openly stated that they cancelled it because they had the wrong price listed on their website. Not only that, within minutes the price on their website increased by SIX TIMES!! From $41 a roll to $260 a roll... That's not an increase that can be easily explained by tariffs or supply chain issues. The guy then tried to whitewash me saying "the product you bought was in a different size." I sent screenshots that clearly showed I ordered precisely the product I intended to order (which, again, I had successfully ordered just weeks ago as well) including screenshots of the product description shown clearly on Google and on their website. His final response was "Sir. We only can order it and sell it on new price." These people do not abide by standard business practices. Do yourself the favor and avoid them. read more

The factory audio unit quit working in my Toyota. I contacted Competition Sound after hours and within few minutes got an email response. I stopped in the next day and talked to Mike and told him what I wanted. He matched me up with a great Sony system. They have a great selection and are very knowledgeable. 1968 Firebird Needed sub and amp mounted in the trunk. New wires run to front door (kick panel) speakers. Remount my head unit. Make a custom package tray for my rear speakers. I REMOVED all seats and panels for my peace of mind and for their ease. Only thing they did correctly was mount the sub. The amp mounted on my quarter panel has rattling wires against the sheet metal. They didn't wrap the wires. The head unit knobs were so tightly installed that they don't operate controls. The tech arguing with me about the window installed improperly so they couldn't put in the package tray. He doesn't realize that I repaired the car myself and know what a uni-body is. Also can't figure out how my old package tray was there even though they removed it. Was told 1 day. Ended up being 3 and in this piss poor condition!! I took a picture of the package tray they made for the car THAT THEY WANTED TO SAY WAS WORTH $300.00 OF MY MONEY! You can see that it doesn't lie flat, it is no way attached to the body, it shows the Dynamat and sheet metal, and what the hell cheap fish net pantyhose is that?! With a name like competition sound you would think that they have some sort of standard on who can work on vehicles. I came in on a Saturday and set up an appointment for the following day at noon. Brought my car in to replace my back speaker's in a 2019 Range Rover. They estimated a 2 hour work time, based on my vehicle make and model and service I requested. I left and came back and after 2hrs my car never even moved. I didn't get upset they just said they were backed up. So I waited in the lobby for 2 more hours as the guys said they were bringing my car to the back right now. After the time had elapsed I went to the front to get an update on my car. I was hungry and tired after sitting there for 4 hours. They walked in the back and then proceeded to tell me that they never even started on the vehicle. They said they looked at it and it was too complicated and was going to take additional time. So, when where they going to tell me that? I literally spent 4hours in the shop, two of those expecting my car was being worked on after I had an actual appointment 2 hours prior. Once they knew they weren't going to do anything to my car they could've sent me a text, (if they didn't realize I was still in the store), called me, or something other than waisting my time. I wouldn't recommend doing business with a place that stock back door speakers are to complicated to install. Especially when they don't have the decency to let you know it out of their capabilities and waist your time. read more

Update:I have gone a few days with no response from management. Michael Caballero(Competition Sound Manager) I called twice today. Jordan(front counter employee) told me to call back in 10 minutes because you were in the back, I called back in 15 minutes and was immediately put on hold with no acknowledgement for 6 minutes before I hung up. It's obvious now that you want to handle things differently. So I will be taking this up with a higher authority. This is after Michael Caballero was communicating with me via FB and then stopped responding 5 days ago and wouldn't take my calls today. They do not hold up to their guarantee of installation for the lifetime of the vehicle. My experience with Competition Sounds.  I roll in because my stereo went out and I needed a new one. I also wired my 4 door speakers years ago and did a crappy job so I wanted them to troubleshoot and rewire them. I pick a stereo out and the counter guy says the inventory says they have one.  I told him if they have one then it must be the display stereo and I don't want that one. Counter guy then calls to the back and someone says they have one in the box. I approve and off I go. My truck is there for the whole day. I finally go pick it up and it's time to pay.  It came out to about 1500 dollars, so I break out my MESA money card which they took at the time. The guy jokes about how they don't take MESA, I was like damnit, then he says he is kidding. So then he gets my card and the account they use is either suspended for non use or something else.  So I had to then fork over $1500 from my bank rather than finance like I wanted. I then asked one more question before I paid, is the stereo in my truck the one from the display because that stereo isn't there anymore. The second counter guy says, "yeah, first counter guy said you knew that." I then said I didn't know and I told him I didn't want a used stereo.  Then comes the manager who says " We just put that stereo up 2 weeks ago." Like that comment is supposed to put it back in the box and make it new. He goes on about how it has a 2 year warranty. I don't care, if I am paying $900 for a stereo(+$600 for troubleshooting requiring and stereo install), it better come in the box. I had no choice, but to pay since I am from out of town and needed my truck.  I get my truck and it sounds good at first. I was then told that they moved my amps cos the location behind the back seat was not a good place. They put the amps under the seats. Remember, I asked them to troubleshoot my speakers, not move my amps. I drive off and before I exit the lot the bass control falls off from the side console, a bass control the tech said he screwed on to secure. There were no screws.  I get to the place I'm staying here in Corpus Christi and I notice my right front passenger speakers are dead. I'm like wtf! I had to go home and had no time to take it Sunday. As I am driving to Central Texas both my front speakers are going in and out intermittently. I make an appointment to return for them to check it out and troubleshoot their issue. The day before I roll out to see them I take pics of their work.  Electrical tape covered sloppy soldering work is what I see. I paid $1500 for award winning work and they give me sloppy soldering and electrical tape. So I drop my truck off and show counter guy the pics and ask him to fix my stuff and reattach my bass control. He doesn't say much. So they troubleshoot and call me and say my tweeters are the issue. I'm like damnit they are probably right, so I picked some and told them to replace them.  The whole day goes by and I pick up my truck after paying another $190.00 Bass control is on the floor and when I turn my truck on the grounding buzz is horrible! It dies down a bit, but now it increases when my AC is on full blast! The speakers are now working fine. I'm like ok this is a bit better even though they ignored the grounding buzz and my request to attach the bass control. I'm driving and them boom the front right passenger speaker goes out again!  Then intermittently the left front passenger side goes in and out and alternates with the right front passenger side. I call Sunday as I am driving back to Central Texas and I make another appointment after discussing my concerns. Issues the front counter guy on the phone didn't seem to concerned about. I am still having issues and I have no confidence in the work this group does. So I would recommend you either QC their work thoroughly while they watch you or just go somewhere else. A Few Notes: I was lied to about the stereo being new(when I brought it up the second week the other counter guys knew who I was talking) They moved amps to a new location without prior approval They don't do what they say they will do They down talk other audio places when their work is subpar They assume an issue is fixed rather verifying the fix They do not care about their customers. read more

I'm giving two stars for a couple reasons. I'll begin however, with the positive aspects of my experience with Competition Sounds. * The people who helped me were very knowledgeable about their product. Every question I asked was answered informatively which ultimately led me to buy something completely different than what I thought I had wanted in the first place... and I am very happy I didn't go with my initial choice. * The quality of the installation was good. I have no rattling or loose parts inside my car. The wiring isn't ghetto (like I've seen in other people's vehicles... which have been "professionally" installed elsewhere.) I will say though, that the bass controller knob is pretty bulky and takes up quite a bit of my already limited space. Could it have been switched out with something smaller? **UPDATE** The wiring is in fact fouled up. There is a whining noise coming from the speakers. Sometimes it is louder than others yet acceleration doesn't affect the volume of it. I've taken the car to BMW to have them check out the problem however their system will not acknowledge anything since I have 'aftermarket' parts. Figures. So yes, I'm changing my rating from two stars to one. **UPDATE** * Quick turnaround time... basically same-day service for the installation of one 10" sub. Now here is my reasoning for the two stars. My car is still fairly brand new... a 2010 BMW. I am meticulous about how I care for it and I know exactly where each and every rock chip exists... that means that at the time, there were zero scratches from human negligence. It was 9:00 PM and dark out when I went to pick up my vehicle. Aside from the sound system itself, the first thing I noticed was the gaping hole in my rear bumper. As the guy wrapped things up and suggested I follow him inside to pay for the job, I asked him where my tow hook cover was. His response? "Ma'am, we have no reason to touch that part of the vehicle. We didn't remove it; it must've been like that when you dropped it off." I assured him that it was in fact there when I left it with them. I knew for sure because I looked around my vehicle before walking back in and handing them the keys (I now regret not making one of the employees do the walk-around with me.) Frustrated, I went in to pay while someone else searched around the shop for the missing piece to my bumper. I could've been an asshole like so many other people and refused to pay until it was returned, but then where would that have got me...? They reluctantly agreed to call BMW the following morning to order me a new one which, aside from the reluctancy, was nice. I was told I would receive a phone call letting me know when the part would be ready. The next morning, I went to inspect my new speaker. That's when I discovered the pressure dent and small but deep scratch on my back bumper. The white paint was completely gone and the black plastic from the bumper was clearly visible... and still is. I was absolutely livid. I waited another day for my phone call and when it didn't come, I decided to drive to the dealership and order the part myself. I then found that the part couldn't be ordered without prepayment... and also that the part wouldn't come painted so BMW would have to send it to a body shop across town. I left and drove to Competition Sounds. Once I was there, I was told that they hadn't found my missing bumper piece (of course) and they were just fixing to call the dealership to make the order (sure). I kindly asked to speak with the manager outside. He walked out of the back with an 'oh great.' look on his face and before I spoke, he said, "I know why you're here." I responded, "Yes, well I want to show you something else. Would you mind coming outside so that I can show you my car?" I showed him the damage, which he smirked at as if it was stupid that I even cared about such things since they were 'so minor.' That pissed me off because the damage absolutely was not there before I left my car with them in the first place. I suggested that in the future, he might want to do a walk-around with his customers. Mike Caballero's response? "Ma'am, we would never see scratches like that anyway..." Bottom line, he promised to call me the following week after he spoke with his 'ding repair guy' and I could come in to have everything resolved. In the mean time, I could go back to BMW and order the part under Competition Sounds' account. After doing all the footwork myself, I finally got the part (a slightly brighter shade of white) and two months later, I still haven't heard from Competition Sounds. After a couple weeks, I decided it was best not to follow up as I had no desire to let them lay a finger on my car ever again. God, I hope I don't need warranty work (which, I was told, they weren't able to provide printed documents for...) Great customer service guys! I spoke with John, Jordan, and Sam on three separate occasions before I finally committed to replacing the stock radio unit in my 2002 Ford Excursion. I've never installed aftermarket audio in any of my vehicles, so I was at first very reluctant to even make the upgrade; however, the desire for hands-free phone use and a back-up camera kept leading me to Competition Sound. I will admit that I did visit a local "big box" retailer before going to Competition Sound, and in retrospect, I can't believe that I had even considered that as an option. The employee at the "big box" store couldn't even give me an estimate of the labor cost, which would be considered "custom labor," and he talked about cutting, splicing, and bypassing, which just left me more confused. I was told that my rear speakers wouldn't work without the custom labor. I actually left the "big box" store having decided against upgrading my stock radio. But thanks to the guys at Competition Sound, I gave the idea of a new radio one more chance as I just happened to drive by their store one day and stop in. I was very impressed with the professionalism of all of the employees with whom I spoke. They obviously know their products and business very well. They were extremely patient with me and their customer service was exceptional. The radio unit I purchased did include the cost of installation, and I was guaranteed that there would be no other unexpected installation fees. The price I paid was exactly as it was quoted to me. Joe, the installer, even came in and spoke with me after the installation was finished. He was very pleasant and told me just how careful he was with my car during the installation. He was correct--not a scratch at all! I'm very pleased with the radio unit that I purchased from Competition Sounds. It works exactly as described to me. Jordan guaranteed me that my rear speakers would work with the new unit, and they do--no cutting/splicing/bypassing at all. Sam took the time to personally and patiently give me an operational demonstration of my new radio unit before I left the store. He also encouraged me to call and come back if I have any questions or need any further assistance with my radio. I will definitely return to Competition Sound in the future! Competition Sound are the sorriest and most dishonest people in the stereo business . They drilled holes in my gas tank installing the amp , and they knew it . I went back to where the installation was and the installer had my AC on full blast without the engine running . When I filled my gas tank gas poured massively onto the ground underneath my vehicle . I knew then why the AC was on full blast . These are the kind of people who let me drive away with this life threatening condition . Pretty much everyone in the shop knew what was happening . My salesman, Mike Caballero, sold and installed my system in my 2011 GMC crew cab truck. All I can say is WOW!! Sounds and looks awesome!! I have had nothing but compliments from family & friends. Mike got me everything I needed for the right price. The only reason for the 4 stars is the road construction in front of the store, which is not really their fault. There are other other installers in town. Do your self a favor and consider them. I too was helped by a very knowledgeable person. Helped me select a radio and a hideaway amplified antenna that i was assured would work as well as external antenna. Not....would not pick up fm104 forward because tech installed in the dash. Had them reposition on passenger side windshield pillar. finally got some of the stations but still hissing and unclear. went in next day to address issue and have them troubleshoot. there solution ....sometimes that happens....only thing we can do is sell you external antenna and charge you for the install and hope that fixes the reception problem. knowledge is good but meeting customer expectations is bad. buyer beware. i was not the only one who had problems that day. while in waiting room, could help but overhear staff fielding at least 3 phone calls trying to put out fires because of failure to meet a customers expectations.......either because tech did not rule out something before work was started on customers car......customer having to return for follow up because work was not checked before they left....something was costing more than was initially agreed to. However what pleased me was they told me my Jeep already had the steering wheel module installed (I had not known) so they removed that cost from my bill. I appreciate the honesty. There were some bugs that needed to be worked out between my phone and the radio, but the service department always worked me in and fixed the problems. I went to Competition Sounds to get a stereo system installed in my 07 Dodge 2500. When I walked in they greeted me and I told the sales person what I was all looking to get done. The sales person explained to me what all was going to have to be done and I felt real confident with them. I wanted to get a double-din radio with all four door speakers and two amps installed and they said they could do it within 6 hours. While I was talking to the sales person he convinced me to get some dynamat to sound proof the doors and he gave me a price for the full front two doors. So I left the truck in their possession and later that day they notified me that it was all finished. I got there that evening and only a couple people were there and so I paid for the installation and they gave me the keys. They didn't go over any of the work they done or show me how to operate it. The next day when got to look at it in the sunlight I noticed one speaker wasn't working and nothing was set right on the radio so I proceeded to investigate everything else. I found out that they only did half of the doors with dynamat instead of the whole door like promised and one speaker bracket was broken. Then when I looked at my amps they weren't secured down properly and they were in the wrong place I requested. Also they used the wrong size wire for the speakers that could have cause product failure. I then noticed they scratched the inside back door panel. I called and notified them about all this and they said to bring it in so they can look at it, then when I drove all the way there they said they won't be able to do it that day that I would have to bring it back another day. I didn't want to but I agreed to do so because I wanted all of it done right. The second time they kept the truck they claimed they have fixed and went over everything again to make sure it was done right. When I asked about my door panel being scratched they said to give them a few days to get a new one to replace it and I said ok and left. About 10 min down the road one of the crossover components to the speakers fell out from the dash and hit my feet which was something else that they supposedly checked. I called a couple weeks after not hearing from them and they told me they have no record of that and then I talked to the manager and he told me he can't just give me a replacement one that he has to get his "make ready guy" to meet me where I requested to look at it and determine if he can fix it and if not then he'll get me a replacement one after I was already told I was going to get a replacement. A couple more weeks went by and with no word from them I called the manager back and he said he would call the guy and see if he's available and he would call me right back, still no word from the supposed manager. They do absolutely poor installation that did not work when they were done. They said they were going to do stuff and to find out later they only did half what was expected and to find some products broken. If I would of never took the time to look at the work I would of never known all this stuff was half done. I've had to visit the store four times and leave the vehicle in their possession for two whole days to get part of the situation resolved. It was a big waste of my time and I wouldn't recommend the installation part to anyone. read more

Horrible customer service!! I'm surprised this place is still in business. I've taken several vehicles here including most recently, my brand new Mercedes for HID light installation. They charged me $150 to install 1 headlight, once I got home I realized they had installed the wrong color 8K, when my driver side is a 6K. When I called back to explain what had happened, they said it was nothing they could do about it! Nothing they could do?? They are the ones who installed it wrong! So in other words they could quickly install it and charge $150, but they could'nt fix it. My guess is because I had already paid, so once they got my money that's all they cared about. Also, I made an appt. for 4:30pm they didn't take my car back until 6:30pm. I wasted my only day off just hanging around, even after making an appointment ahead of time. I never received an apology or heads up for that either. I letting you know if you take your business here, you are a fool. I will never take any more business to this place again. Staff is trash! Service and work ethic is even worse then that! The owner of this establishment should be ashamed. I would be surprised if you even find one good review about this place online. read more

I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone getting stereo work done. I would actually tell people not to go here if I heard them talking about it. I made an appointment to have an install done but called later the same day to change the date. On the original install date I was called 20 minutes after my scheduled time to see if I was still going to make my appointment. I informed them that I had changed my appointment to the next day at the same time. I was informed that the change would be made and the time was in fact available. I showed up the next day to get my install done. My order was reviewed by a separate employee than the one that had done my original quote and was told that everything was good to go. After 45 minutes I talked to the associate to see why my truck was still sitting outside. I was simply told they were busy and had to wait for some people and then the employee picked up the phone as I was attempting to talk to him. I finally found a manager and told him of the issue. He reviewed my order and found out that they were trying to sell me a part that I did not need. He talked to an installer and had them get started on my truck. I was promised that they could have it done by a certain time as I had a different appointment to attend to. The time came that it was supposed to be done by and it was still being worked on. I talked to a different employee to find out what was going on. He came back and told me it would be another 30 minutes at least. I was then referred to a different manager which meant I had to explain my issues all over again. He checked on the install and informed me that it would only be another 5 minutes. He said that the other guy was only estimating a finish time. Basically, he told me that the employee didn't check anything. He also informed me that the person I spoke with originally when making my appointment was from the Philippines and that he still has trouble with a language barrier and that was the reason for the added part that I did not need. If that was the case then why did the second guy not catch the error when I told him all of the same information. Also, why would you have someone with that barrier helping customers? Well, it was actually another 45 minutes before it was done. The manager retrieved me to pay for the install. I was so pissed that i didn't think to see if the truck was done yet. I made the payment and asked for my keys. I was informed that it wasn't done yet. Once they finally finished I didn't have time to check and make sure everything was working properly as I had somewhere I needed to be about 45 minutes prior to that. After I left I realized that that bass knob installed did not work at all. There was no power to it. I also noticed that some of the wires to the amplifier were not well hidden. I will never return to get anymore work done at this place. I was lied to just to get me to get the work done and leave. I see that a previous review had problems with appointments not being properly put in so it is not just me ranting. I hope this heelps other to avoid the headache and trouble that I experienced. read more
