Compassus is a "for profit" hospice. Most if their clients live in facilities; only about 1-2% live in their personal homes. They are very eager to get your business initially, making themselves available to answer any questions and promising to accommodate any situation you may have. However, this is a classic bait and switch, once you sign your loved on, they provide the bare minimum of service they can get away with. The nurses and aides say no to virtually any request for help you make, e.g., could the aide put soiled clothes in the laundry machine and start it (for my mom who lived alone and had a rare continence accident)? They actually said no, and I have multiple examples like this, where a stranger would have been willing to help, yet they wouldn't. Medicare pays them approximately $9000 a month, maybe more, and you are lucky if you get five 20 minute aide visits per week, although they will tell you the visits are 45 minutes each. The nurses basically just take the client's blood pressure and that's it. The social worker is useless, she claims she is there to help, but she doesn't actually provide anything when you make a request, e.g., the hospice aide called in sick or didn't show up, can someone go out and provide the missed services? The answer was no. The most the social worker does is give you a referral to pursue on your own, which you typically discover have no concrete services or help for your loved one. Lastly, Compassus didn't provide emotional or other support for me, the caregiver, as claimed. In many ways, they made my duties more stressful and difficult. Extremely let down and put-off by this company and the way they handled situations, responsibilities, and relationships; I wouldnt recommend. read more
