I would definitely not recommend Comox Valley Toyota. I took my Prius there when it was displaying a red circle and exclamation point. It would only go into park and neutral, so I couldn't drive it.
They diagnosed it and told me that it needed a new inverter, which would cost $5,526.03 to fix. Because I am a student, I have to be careful with my money and searched for cheaper options than Comox Valley Toyota.
I found a cheaper garage who was able to replace the inverter for $2,200.
However, less than forty-eight hours after the inverter was fixed the car stopped running again. Before it did so, it sounded the same as it had before I had the inverter replaced.
The person at the garage looked it and found a different code than Comox Valley Toyota. It was the ECU battery component that needed to be fixed and not the inverter.
When I pointed this out to Comox Valley Toyota, they initially stonewalled me. The person I spoke to said he'd look into it, and it was only when I called back later to ask about progress that he said he needed email documentation from the other garage. It took me four different phone calls to finally get a response.
Comox Valley Toyota claimed that their initial diagnosis was correct and that problems like these often appear in succession. They did not mention that there could be other issues when I first had it in for an estimate, though I asked them twice if they had checked the battery.
If I had the work done at Comox Valley Toyota, they would have charged me $5,526.03 for the inverter and then charged even more for the real issue. They did say they could have saved me the towing bill to the other garage; unless I somehow had a towing bill over $2,500 this would not have been worth it.
Because the Comox Valley Toyota estimate was incorrect, I had to pay thousands of dollars more than was necessary. Go elsewhere for a professionalism and integrity; you will not find them at Comox Valley Toyota. read more
