The Real Detroit Weekly is a publication that you can grab for free throughout the Metro Detroit…read morearea. I personally prefer the Metro Times, but Real Detroit definitely offers a balance when it comes to target audiences. The writing is laid back and bantery, conversational, informal. It is more for fun. You won't find a lot of editorial/investigative journalism here -- mostly entertainment. The most recent thing I glanced through was an interview with Ladytron and another on the Terrible Twos. It's had a reputation for catering towards the partier, but I've noticed that they've been covering local indie bands more.

Get REAL Detroit... weekly that is!…read more Personally, I am a "REALDetroit" girl over the Metro Times. I prefer the laid back conversational writing. There is a sense of "raw-ness" to REALDetroit- which is what makes it real. In the Character Sketch column which features an mini bio on various people with (typically) some pretty unique jobs or hobbies. I've read about a spy technician and also a dominatrix. I must say both were very intriguing articles. As far as featuring indie bands, I think REALDetroit might be one of the music scenes biggest cheerleaders- ESPECIALLY the indie variety. Also, I feel REAL is very accessible. They want to know about what is going on in Detroit and possess an open ear to any story ideas you may have. seriously. get REAL.

We just went to an event they hosted kids Hero-con and we were so pleasantly surprised....great staff, wonderful giveaways, and lots of very neat stations. That's hard to do with kids these days...but they do. I'll likely continue to go to the events they host since this one was such a hit!

Detroit Auto Scene advertises itself as "The Oldest Free newspaper in the United States." It still…read morehas a distinctly old-fashioned flavor to it. The layout is a bit cramped and gray on the inside, but the reporting is pretty good, especially if you're into cars. I picked up a July edition for free while I was waiting to be served at a restaurant and enjoyed a package of stories and lots of photos on the centennial of the Model T. They also ran stories about what's new at the Woodward Dream Cruise this year, the exhibit of an amphibious vehicle that, like a James Bond creation, can drive on land or double as a motorboat and other automotive news specific to the greater Detroit area. Detroit might not be the automotive giant that it was in its heyday, but the Detroit Auto Scene showcases the fact that there's still interesting auto news coming out of the Motor City.

After being disappointed with some local printers (for engineering drawings), I took a chance with…read morethe on-line printing at the Plan Printer. Everything turned out very well - had prints that were a fraction of the cost of going to the local printer and had the convenience of not having to make 2 trips for the request and pick up the copies of the engineering plans. I found Paul, the person providing customer service, very prompt to my request and provided good service. (It was shipped out the same business day that the Plan Printer received the request). Based on my experience, I would highly recommend the Plan Printer - you will not be disappointed. Customer from Virginia

I'd like to thank you for finally writing about the rat problem in St. Clair Shores.. I moved to…read morethe Shores in May, we have cought 15 rats so far. They will never end if the city does not step in and tell these ppl to clean up their yards. My neighbors have lived here for 18 years and never even knew they had rats until we moved in.. We have all tried to get rid of the rats but they keep coming back. We can not poisen them because I have a 2year old daughter and not only do I have a dog but the neighbors do also.. It seems that the people who live around 12 and Greater Mack do not care. They do not have children playing in their yards.. I think you guys should write about how severe the problem is and that rats start epidemics they carry a mass amout of germs. There are plenty of houses in the area that look abonded but are not.. I've never seen peoples front yards so out of controll.. I'd like to post a sign on Greater Mack making residents who are either unaware or who just don't care, how many rats have been cought.. It's disgusting and many people who i've talked to in the area are either selling their homes or if renting they will not be renewing their lease.. We would all be very thankful if you could get it across to the residents how awful this problem really is.
