Corrupt medical malpractice here. Disgustingly unethical and a mess (they run around like headless chickens b/c they are "short-staffed" with the dentist yelling for her assistant "Evelyn! Evelyn!"). Hugely unprofessional. First the hygienists are rude and incompetent. Prior to setting up an appt, the hygienist said the dentist went to "Harvard" then "University of Boston" when I asked where she was trained and like how long she's been in practice - I asked if she meant Boston University or UMass Boston? They were annoyed to answer basic questions.
During the appt, Dr. Mary Scannell exclaimed how my mom hadn't seen a dentist for 2 years according to the insurance and FORCIBLY put resin composite on at least 5-6 of my mom's front teeth, even though she repeatedly expressed that she doesn't want it. IT IS ONLY MEANT FOR FILLINGS, BROKEN OR CHIPPED TEETH, NONE OF WHICH SHE HAD. They charged over $900 to our insurance and "resin composite" at $110 a piece. THAT IS A SCAM. They also charged the insurance for taking 18 bitewing x-rays for each of us (more $$ for them to reap from), which took over 30 minutes!! It was so uncomfortable, the x-ray technician is also not experienced so she kept sticking the camera inside our mouths in awkward positions and taking forever. Dr. Scannell said to me that she's a general practitioner, but wrote that she performed a periodontal exam (to charge the insurance more $$ I'm sure).
The resin composite for my mom broke off while she was eating and my mom got cold sores on her lips and they got swollen the next morning after her appointment. I did not see Dr. Scannell changing her gloves after she worked on another patient (she was doing the same composite on someone and using UV light to cure it - Her pattern of behavior monetizing off every possible patient). She immediately stuck her fingers in my mom's mouth, took control over taking the x-rays, PUT HER HANDS ON MY MOM'S HEAD AND PHYSICALLY PUSHED DOWN ON HER HEAD UP, DOWN AND SIDEWAYS even though my mom told her she was in pain and has a herniated disc in her neck. WHAT KIND OF DENTIST DOES THAT?
They are also racist, profiling us as "Are you Cambodian? Vietnamese? Oh you Korean, I like Korean food" and speak Spanish to each other so you don't understand. When we told her she should change her gloves, she exasperated, "Oh my God!! This isn't some 3rd world country". She also doesn't change her gown (PPE) and I could smell cigarette smoke on her wrists which she rested on my cheeks when she was working on me. She sprayed water ALL OVER my face up to my eyes, and after forcibly took the bib on my chest and rubbed it all over my face to dry off the water. I have NEVER experienced such low-class care from a medical professional like this.
They are also deliberate at lying when we returned to ask for correction. Initially they said "Why did you wait to come to the office now? You need to schedule another appointment", told us to buy Abreva for my mom's cold sores and go to the emergency room. Then they agreed to let us come in to see Dr. Scannell but she somehow made a run for it while we waited to see her. The hygienist Wendy asked my mom to explain what happened but scoffed at us claiming the dentist "never did the work on your teeth like that". She said to me, "How do you know? Did you go to dental school? OH, so she's your mother now?". She put her hand on my mom's foot and dragged it off the seat, telling us to get out and they wouldn't do anything for us. Even though we were under the impression that the dentist would be coming over after finishing her last patient, they suddenly said "Dr. Scannell already left. She had to leave early". Then THEY CALLED THE COPS on us for "trespassing" when we asked for copies of our medical records and Jerry Scannell, her husband, deliberately told the police over the phone to arrest us for trespassing (I heard him saying "Beautiful! Just get them off my property" when the officer said that's all they could do). When 2 officers came over I thought they would at least hear both sides of the story. My mom explained what went wrong but the cops approached us aggressively, refused to listen to what we were saying, and when I said I'm waiting for the medical records, the cops put a tight grip on me and grabbed my arm, twisted it into a position behind my back and shoved me forward toward the exit yelling, "You're about to get arrested for trespassing".
You should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES. read more
