C4 is a wonderful organization. I'm not ashamed to review them. They deserve a lot of praise for their work and dedication to providing affordable mental healthcare to the community. I used their services for medication management and counseling when I did not have health insurance. I had low expectations at first, but they were met and exceeded. I adore my social worker. She's very kind, funny, but most importantly, helpful. I've been to therapists who'd do nothing but listen and let me find my own way of dealing. My social worker implemented dialectical therapy. It's not easy, but it's very useful. There is group therapy and other similar services available. My doctor is located at their Uptown/Andersonville location on Clark Street. She is not a pill pusher like most others. She is understanding of your needs as a patient and she is very knowledgeable of various medicine. She's one of the best doctors I've had. I like that their employees treat patients respectfully. Some of us just need a little help. We're not criminals or homicidal loonies. If you don't have health insurance or if you have medical aid, definitely give C4 a call for your mental health needs. They are really, really fantastic. read more

Many people talk down upon those with mental health disorders or illness... They chat under their breath about those "loonies" or "crazies"... But most people do not see the devastating side effects and outcomes someone who has one of these illnesses deals with on a daily basis whether it be bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation, depression, or any other psychological/neurological challenge. During my outpatient psychiatric clinical, I was privileged to witness some awesome work that a multi-location organization called C4 Community Counseling Center of Chicago does. The organization was established back in 1972 to provide individuals who were released from psychiatric hospitals into the Uptown and Edgewater neighborhoods with quality mental health services (hence, why so many psychiatric patient's still reside in these areas now a days). C4 has expanded greatly and consists of six facilities throughout Chicago (Edgewater, Ravenswood, Lincoln Square, Humboldt Park, West Ridge, and McKinley Park/South Lawndale) with services addressing behavioral health and social problems including assistance for those struggling with substance use, victims of sexual assault, and those with mental illness and emotional trauma. They guide individuals in transitioning back to a condition in which they can live, work and thrive independently. All fees are determined on a sliding scale based on each individual's income, and no one is turned away. A few of their awesome groups that I witnessed were: 24-hour crisis intervention, expressive, art, comical, family, group, and individual therapy, violence prevention education, medication monitoring, case management, outpatient substance use treatment and residential services. All the employees I worked with were extremely passionate, diverse, patient and healing with all clients. Overall, an outstanding organization! Still haven't had anything good to say. My so called Case Manager's name is Omega. Can't think of her last name. Doesn't matter, there ain't many Omegas running around. The psychiatrist there diagnose me with asburgers. She decided to go in my files and change it. She refuses to give me a copy of my records. She thinks she has that right apparently. She is trying to say nothing is wrong with me. I was just diagnosed with MS. I supposed she knows more then a neurologist. I have one of the best Neuro-surgeons around. He wants me to see a psychiatrist for my depression... Her and her supervisor have done nothing but get in the way or my treatment. Because I been involved with them, nobody will see me. They sure know how to screw shit up. read more

C4 ruined my and my son's life a long time ago, no accountability. Who do they answer too? 8 months after their fuck up someone calls me after hours and apologizes, and never says for WHAT. But they continue to use tax payers money to keep those zombies coming back to stand in front of their establishment and smoke the cheapest cigarettes the "counselors" hand out as rewards for coming to "therapy". Then they give them fee bus passes to ride the cTA back to government paid living facilities or government assisted apartments. read more

Edit: They keep trying to control the conversation (and demand to control my actions), and state if they aren't given complete control, then it shows a lack of cooperation on my part. As the client, I'm supposed to be respected, and my needs are supposed to be their concern. Instead they make it about control and how they have to have it. I should be allowed access to my records and the amendment process, without obstruction, and I should be allowed to make appointments with staff to speak about my issues with C4 in person without obstruction. They will not cooperate, and assert they must have complete control and that they do not owe their clients or former clients anything. Their staff laugh and giggle, calling people insane, psychotic and crazy when they talk about their Rights. They tell people they do not have any Rights to appointments, HIPAA processes, etc. They also often interrupt and get aggressive on the phone and in person. They should be completely passive, attentive, respectful and cooperative. They escalate situations on the phone, and they obstruct phone calls to prove the point that they believe they have all the power and only they should be allowed to make demands. They're supposed to be working for us, but they do not act like it; they act as if they're working for the system and themselves instead. - I've been calling for 8 years straight. They refuse to allow me to speak with any of their staff about correcting direct fabrications and outright made up medical claims/histories on my record. For the first four years, I left messages, came in, asked to make appointments, etc. I was ignored. For the last four years I've started calm conversations only to be lead around in circles, thus I end up being irate with them because they refuse to respect their clients and former clients and are not living up to the promises painted on their windows or posted everywhere in their building. In all seriousness, I flew 2000 miles to LA to escape their harassment (trying to get me to assist them in more medical fraud), and then 5 years later flew 2000 miles back because they refused to speak with me over the phone, in emails or in regular mail (about correcting my medical records). Seriously. They're that obsessed with trying to protect their records from correction, and I can only speculate that it's due to some sort of fear that being corrected could destroy their already feigning reputation or get them into legal trouble. This place used to force people into their agency with threats or trickery (nearby shelters that had a "deal" with C4 to have people traded around for mutually beneficial welfare fraud; one shelter was shut down). They have also lied or exaggerated on paperwork for billing purposes. Some staff had utilized threats and manipulation to keep their clientele numbers consistent or growing. I know I was told to keep coming "or else" by a therapist and psychiatrist whom both made up stories about my mental health history. When I tried reporting them, I was told my grievance would not be put on record and that they had a "special" grievance process and that the "grievance manager" wouldn't be in. When I finally met them, they kept interrupting me and kept trying to reword what I said as to avoid any language that would hold C4 staff accountable. I think the reason why they won't see me for corrections now is due to the fact recording devices on smartphones have become common and they're afraid of being recorded doing this. They complain about funding being cut because they have no legitimate customers willing to pay for services; they are a subsidized agency they preys upon people. I was diagnosed with constantly changing disorders, with paperwork ambiguously 'citing' made-up stories to justify diagnoses. They interfered in my education and occupation, with their social workers declaring they wanted direct control and to foster dependency (in reality they were dependent on clients access to welfare and usability for stats). They changed the drugs several times, but declare there was no reason to, as I supposedly never complained about the drugs (then why change them?). They illegally edit their paperwork to protect themselves and to discredit clients. No one with a moral compass or respect for accuracy and outcomes would work here. read more

People loitering all outside the building. Went here when I was uninsured. Doctor was awful. No compassion. No understanding of depression. Felt like I was talking to someone who had no idea what depression was and thought it was therapeutic to just tell me if someone gave me a million dollars to get out of bed and I could do it then I could do it any day. Dr saed. One time I waited patiently to see the Dr and he finally came out and then yelled at me for being late saying he wouldn't see me. Come to find out the front desk staffnever made him aware I arrived. Tried to get another Dr to no avail. When I brought my concerns to My therapist she was highly agitated that I told her "I guess I get what I pay for"---(I was paying nothing). They then just stopped my services since I was sliding scale. I only give two stars because they were good at giving me free samples of meds. read more

Disgrace to the community. I'm sure they have a great cause but employees don't take any pride in property as garbage is constantly lying on ground around building and parking lot. They allow their clients to lie next to building while harassing people who walk by. Seems like lack of management and pride. read more

The administrative side is unorganized and you don't get the right info. Takes forever to get any response. Did an intake and weeks later I'm still just waiting for them to get an answer from within the organization about IF the therapists have availability. My advice, keep looking elsewhere to find a center that has better client care and is organized. read more

They no longer have a sliding scale fee. It's all full fees. If you're looking for free/affordable health care, look elsewhere.
