Where the grass is the sand. You can choose your preference
    Tommy J.

Decided to have a nice relaxing day at the lake with a little bit of water sport. My wife found this place on her phone. When we come up to the lake, we usually go to Kings Beach. This place is really bustling. Tons of people for a Friday afternoon. So much for social distancing as this beach is packed. There's a little strip of grass can be seen in the photos, so you can sit on the grass or the sand depending on what your desire is. The grass is real, I actually thought it was fake turf, not sure how they can keep the grass up with all the people sitting/walking on it. Down side of the beach is the sand may be imported as once you hit the water, lots of rocks. Quarter size pebbles turn quickly into what can be described as a riverbed or rocks. I had to have the kids get me water shoes to get out of the water and I do NOT have sensitive feet. I'm definitely not a tenderfoot lol. Also there is a nice turn-a-bout to drop off or pickup all the supplies (ice chest, chair, canopy etc. Heading back next week though as still lots of fun.

This is a nice park that is on the shore of Lake Tahoe's north shore There's a playground and a beach that does have some shade. The beach and the lake is Rocky so water shoes are a good thing to have. The water was nice to be in and the lake is clean and clear water. You can rent stand up boards and kayaks. The bathrooms were clean and there is a picnic area.

Commons Beach is located in Tahoe City. It's a 4 acre park along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe. The walking path is paved and bicycles are allowed. The beach part is not very large. The sand does not extend out into the water since it is not naturally occurring and is trucked in. The shoreline is mainly rocky. As in rocks not gravel and stones. The "sandy" beach has a bit of a gravelly entry into the water. The sandy beach was super crowded on a summer late weekday afternoon. So we took a walk along the path and staked out an unconventional rocky spot to dip into the lake. But watch out for snakes. They too like to cool off and take a swim. No rattlers or King Cobras though. There is a picnic area with tables and bbqs. There also is a children's playground, restrooms, amphitheater hosting summer concerts, and a vendor renting kayaks and paddle boards. #commonsbeachtahoecity

Yesterday opened the Summer Concert Series at Commons Beach, Tahoe City, CA. We opened with Joy & Madness an awesome group with a full horn section. They are nationally know with a couple of hits. The concert are free and brought to you by the Tahoe City Downtown Assn & The Public Utilities District. There isn't a better venue for a concert than on the Green at Commons Beach. This is family and pet friendly. There are food vendors including Reno Catering Co. They put out some of the best BBQ in the area. I had shrimp tacos and barbequed pork tacos. The were delicious! Also I partook in an ice cream cone treat from Little Truckee Ice Creamery. To wash it down an ice cold beer from Laguntias Brewery. The concert was fantastic and I encourage all to make the trip to Tahoe City every Sunday for 12 weeks ending in September 4-7 pm. There are plenty of restrooms and they were clean. Parking down below at the event but get there early otherwise it's parking on the street. What a great place and everyone was so friendly!

Commons Beach is a really beautiful beach on the shores of Lake Tahoe. There is a lot to do there's a playground, there is boating, there is hiking, and there are stores and restaurants right across the beach. There are also a lot of shade trees under which you can spread a towel or place a beach chair. In order to get to Commons Beach there is on street parking with a meter and you have to walk down stairs down a very steep cliff to get to it. We were at Commons Beach on a day that was very smokey due to the California fires so that is reflected in our photos. But normally there is a gorgeous view.

We have been to Tahoe couple of times, but never to North side of it. So, last weekend we made an impromptu trip here and stayed at Squaw valley. So, this was so close to the place we stayed and we decided to come here to watch sunset. We walked as long as the trail goes from the Commons beach, and loved it. Super peaceful and this is close to lots and lots of restaurants and downtown. So, if you want to take a break from the city buzz and busy life, this is the place for you. We watched sunset here and the experience was surreal. Also, there are lots of cruise companies and kayaking rentals here. So, want to come back to try a sunset cruise or kayaking. Would definitely come back again. PS: Don't miss taking pictures here. Bring selfie stick and you get amazing pictures on the board walks here.

Commons Beach is a small gem of a park in Tahoe City. More than simply a beach, it sports a delightful segment of the Lakeside Trail that meanders through the park and continues to the north. Benches along the trail are useful stopping points. The beach itself is small, but extremely popular, with people from early morning until dusk. The park also contains new play structures for children, a group picnic area with barbecue facilities, and a large lawn area for stretching out and soaking in the view. A parking lot is available. It is also easily accessible by foot from Tahoe City's main street, although the couple stairs in the middle of the park are quite steep for a return trip - better to use the stairs at either end of the park. The park is signed as no dogs allowed, but I did not see this enforced and dogs are common.

So chilly out! You can find a little snow in the parking lot. We darted in and out of the car.

Even Google maps shows how low the water is. It's hard to believe that even Lake Tahoe is being effected by the drought. The beach now looks so tiny. I liked that there was a nice little parking lot, play structure, and bathrooms. Due to its winter the place has very few visitors and lots of parking. Sadly many of the public bathrooms are also closed. I am really surprised at how clean the beach is. When the water receded I thought I'd see lots of debris, but it's just rocks. I see a few beer caps, but not much else. I spotted several craw fish arms scattered around. The water was so clear. I couldn't believe it. I'd come back. It was beautiful and quiet.

You could make a whole vacation out of visiting each and every beach in Tahoe. That was basically our plan. What better way to enjoy summer. It's a busy beach, there are kids, couples and families, water sports, sun tanning and picnicking everywhere. It was a pretty fun place to be. We enjoyed a nice picnic on the beach and it was hot. Nearly 88 degrees that day. Kids were playing near the shoreline and catching baby fish and crawfish in buckets. They seemed to really enjoy the water. We jumped in the water, cool and icy. It was a relief for a hot summer day.

We have come here several times for Concerts at Commons Beach - a concert series which takes place every Sunday during the summer. It is FREE and features a variety of great musical talent - from jazz to bluegrass! If you get thirsty or hungry, you can find beer and food trucks on hand or you can bring your own picnic. We love bringing float tubes and watching the concerts from beautiful Lake Tahoe. The only downfall is that, understandably, it gets pretty crowded and parking can be a challenge - so plan accordingly.
