Not the most picturesque beach at Tahoe. You won't find soft sands and turquoise waters here, in fact it's one of the muckiest beaches imo at Tahoe. It is popular with dog owners, which is also why I find that it tends to smell here like wet dogs. It is popular due to being easy access to Tahoe City on foot and having watercraft rentals. You'll still get the pretty mountain views and pines, but the water here is mucky from the dirt/gravel/dogs rather than sparkling clear blue that is hallmark of Tahoe. read more

Cool beach. It's on a quieter part of the lake. Kings Beach is really beautiful and clean unlike a few other areas in spite of it being a busy place. Free public access. There's some parking on the street at meters. It is free to get to the beach. Parking will of course cost you something though. There's meters and parking lots that charge varying amounts to park there, and that's how they make this beach free for you. Beautiful sites on the beach. The sand is clean and there's boat ramps if you want to cruise on water. Lots of fun things around. The water is very clean and often cool but it can be warm if the weather is especially hot. Also you can rent things like paddle boats. It's also fun to rent jet skis. That means fun to use them, not to pay for them. read more

Been going to Kings Beach State Park forever. It holds a lot of fun memories and perfect for creating new ones. But it sure is crowded in the summer. Real estate is sparse on the beach, anticipate to be close and cozy with your neighbors. But everyone is chill. Very family friendly. No fur babies allowed though. They have convenient parking lots right next to the beach. $10 fee for the day. But it fills up super fast. There are free public parking lots scattered about the town and free street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. The water is so beautiful, clear, and clean. Plus the water is kinda cold. Well it is high elevation snow melt. The beach has a boat launch, kids playground, picnic tables with bbq pits, restrooms, and a vendor that rents out kayaks, paddle boards, peddle boats, those floating sitting bicycle looking contraption with fat wheels, kite surfboards, and jet skis. If you dare, they also offer paragliding. Fun! Fishing is allowed with permits, however you probably won't get any bites near the shore or pier since the water is pretty shallow. No alcohol or portable bbqs allowed. Yes, there is a ranger that comes around to check for parking and any other violations. read more

We were on route to South Lake Tahoe from a day of snowboarding in Sugar Bowl and saw this pier and we just had to stop. It was a sun shining gorgeous day in Lake Tahoe and this place was the spot to be. There were so many people just enjoying the views of the lake and the fresh air. Albeit, I'm sure this is a pretty small and nice beach when it's not covered in snow. When it is it's also pretty picturesque. We're so glad we took a quick stop just right across the street from the pier at a 15 minute parking spot. Did a little froggering and was able to take in the clear waters...yes super clear. You can see the ridges of the sand through the water. Stop by and just take a quick leg stretch...you'll thank me for it! read more

Kings Beach doesn't look the way most people expect a beach on Lake Tahoe to look - the views you'll find here aren't as stunning as many you may have seen on postcard that feature the Lake. That said, it's almost certainly the most populated area on the Lake - it has places to rent boats, restaurants, and lots of opportunity to engage in water sport activities. Tip: Kings Beach is large enough for a big crowd to spread out on it and still be able to find space for themselves. On a typically busy summer day in Lake Tahoe, this might be the easiest place to find parking. That's not to say it still can't be tough - we drove around most of the Lake on our first visit just searching for a place where we could park and still get down to the water's edge. To sum it up, of all the beaches I've been to in the Lake Tahoe area, this one would be near the bottom of my list of favorites, but if you're just wanting a place where you can get to the lake, then Kings Beach will do ;-) read more

This a nice spot to take in Lake Tahoe. Parking during the summer is no fun. There is a few pay lots that are currently $10.00. There is street parking too. If you arrive before 10:00 a.m. it is easier to find parking and a spot on the beach. It can get cozy as there are lots of people. Don't worry yourself Gov. Newsom, social distancing is being practiced.There is a rental place that rents paddle boards, peddle boats, and jet skis. Prices are normal for rentals. There is a parasailing boat that launches from here too. The beach has nice sand and is kept clean. There are some rocks in the swim area so I recommend water shoes. Keep your sun block handy too, the sun is very intense and reflects off of the water too. read more

Such a beautiful and serene place to relax. Beautiful views with mountains covered with snow in the background. A nice clean beach located right next to a busy street and a strip of stores and food spots. Tons of activities available to do for rent: Kayaking, parasailing, jet skis and much more. Bathrooms were clean and very accessible. Plenty of parking for a price. Water was cold in the month of July, but plenty of sitting areas on the sand. How can you not love a beach on Tahoe? Majestic perfection. This was my turnaround point on a hike that started from Emerald Bay (the Rubicon Trail) and it was as marvelous as everything else in the area. Something about Lake Tahoe has stuck with me every single day since leaving and I didn't think that was possible. I still think about every curve of the long hike I did, the cup of coffee overlooking the lake and the smell of the pines. This whole area stuck with me more than almost anywhere else I've ever traveled, and I wish I could teleport back to it. It's a beautiful area in the summertime and I can only imagine what the other seasons bring here. read more

5/9/2020 - Went to Kings Beach with some friends and their kids. Ideal beach spot in North Lake Tahoe right now becuase most all the parking lots are closed do to COVID-19. Kings Beach's parking lot was also closed, however, we found a spot on the street about a block away from the beach. When you have young kids in the group it made it very easy to walk to it, rather than other beach locations around the Lake Tahoe where some walks are long and down steep terrain. Kings Beach is also pretty nice with sandy beaches and shallow water so the kids in the group could splash around. I do recommend this beach right now during COVID-19 until the parking lots open back up. read more

A great state beach and the best beach in Kings Beach! Downside yes you do have to pay to get in but you do get certain perks with a state beach. The beach is clean and you would be hard to spot trash. So please make sure you help keep it clean and pick up after yourself. This beach is particularly awesome too because you can walk out pretty far and only ever hit chest high. So this is a great spot if you just want to be lazy, if you have kids that want to play around or if you want to go in the water but not all the way. Also because the sand is higher here the water is also warmer which is a good thing will all that melted snow feeding into this lake! Brrrr. This beach is also centrally located to many lunch/dinner spots and water sport rentals. My brother and family joined us after noon one day and found parking easily. Having exact change ($10) or credit card to pay for parking is recommended. Probably the most popular free public beach for families. The sand is brown but very fine so it's very soft to walk on. Parking can be challenging at times, especially on the weekend. Water is warm and very shallow so you can take out your floaters, get your drink and float away. Don't forget the sunblock!!! read more

One of my favorite places to go to during the summer. You can park in the neighborhoods or in the parking lot area. Be aware that the parking lot does get full fast and there is a fee. I recommend to bring snacks or food to enjoy by the water. Glass bottles are a no as we do not want anyone to get hurt. If you don't want to pack lunch you can always check out the restaurants and shopping boutiques around the area. Kings beach is usually busy from 11 am- 3 pm. After 3 it definitely slows down as everyone starts to go home or out to dinner. The beach is very clean and water is really blue. This is a great beach with a lot of activities for kids and adults alike. They have stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, floaties, jet skis, and more. The beach has a lot of food and beer options around and there is a parking lot right in front of it. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends. The water here isn't bright blue like it is at other parts of the lake but it is still a gorgeous area with shallow waters that make it a great and safe spot for kids to swim. The water is never too cold. The first part of the water and sand area is a little rough with larger pebbles or rocks but the sand gets soft and fine as you get further into the water. I rented a stand up paddle board here for $25 and it was pretty fun. The waves from the beach do make it a little more challenging. I'd recommend bringing your own umbrella or shade because there aren't many trees or things you can find shade from. read more

Dogs-For a place that has a large sign that says no, dogs, the place was overrun by dogs. I can't say this is true for the entire beach. We were on the far side by the boat dock. It was also a Sunday off season, so this may just be where the locals come to run their dogs. Everyone seemed to know each other and for the most part the dogs all got along Beach-Clean, bathroom options, and clear cold water. Many people brought chairs or blankets to settle down on. Kids were playing in the water and sand. Overall nice beach Food-There are many shacks and shops to eat at. I like this about this beach. It's right off the main drag. You can enjoy the tall redwoods, beach, nature, and run up the way and get an ice cream cone or burger Rental-There is a rental show up the lane from the parking lot. Parking-Good thing I had a check as we didn't have exact change and they don't take credit card or give change to pay for parking. I've been here before and we'll be back. We always come off season so I can't comment on how it is during the summer. Winter and fall is very relaxing and plenty of parking. read more

This beach is a very fun place to come in the summer! I first got here on a saturday-- probably not the best day to come in summer because it was extremely crowded. Almost every square foot of the beach had an umbrella or tent set up, and it didn't not feel secluded at all. The water was pretty cold, but was a nice refreshing feel from being in the hot sand around the beach. I would definitely recommend an umbrella if you come during the summer, because the sun rays are extremely strong and can cause sunburns. The parking is pretty tough, there's parking right outside but it costs $10, so I highly recommend finding street parking or parking in a restaurant lot nearby. Overall a fun state park! The community is great and respectful and I would come here again, maybe just not on a weekend if I had a choice. read more

The beach is really clean. There are a group of volunteers that go across the beach to pick up all the trash. The employees were friendly and helpful. There are employees that clean the restrooms more than once a day. There is a rental place right on the beach, which makes it easy if you want to rent a kayak or a jet ski. Kings Beach is probably my number 1 go to beach at the Lake. It's just easy. They have a small parking lot right at the beach, across from Safeway. When I say small, I mean maybe 25 parking spaces, that might be pushing it. But on this day, we scored, got a parking spot in the lot at 1pm. Yes! There are lots of picnic tables just off of the parking lot, and they have a nice little pavilion area with a sink and BBQ pit, not sure if it has to be rented, I would guess it probably does. But it's a nice spot. The beach is really big. And right now the lake is low, so that leaves even more beach. I love that there aren't a ton of rocks at this beach. There are a lot of beaches around the lake that are filled with rocks. This one has really nice soft sand. I'm a fan of the soft sand. I used to think this was not a dog friendly beach, but when we were up there on a Monday there were probably 10 dogs up there. All super friendly, and it looked like everyone was having a great time. I highly recommend this beach. Convenience, ease, soft sand, and lots of beach. Be sure to bring an umbrella for shade! read more

We love Kings Beach! Extensive sandy beach and beautiful Lake Tahoe can't beat it. We enjoy fantastic family beach days and the amazing events (Music on the Beach, etc.) For the love of Gaia, CA State Parks, please keep it clean! That means empty the trashes, and clean the bathrooms. If you are visiting, pack it in and pack it out is best. Dogs are not welcome on the beach, the dog "beach" (sand is dependent on water height) is at the far end past the boat launch. This is also poorly enforced by CASP, but if Placer animal control is around you'll get a ticket. If you notice this amazing place not being cared for please let CA State Parks respectfully know. read more

Visited King's Beach twice, once on a weekday and once on a weekend. Parking was a bit more challenging on the weekend but we got lucky and found a spot in a FREE parking lot right next to the beach. On the weekday we had no problem getting a spot right up along the water. On the weekend it was definitely more crowded but we didn't have a problem finding a spot on the sand, just not right up close to the water. The sand and water are beautiful and the beach has a very family friendly atmosphere. There's some picnic tables available and a playground for children. Also, there are restaurants and shops right across the street. read more

Very nice beach. Water was clean and clear. The only bad thing is they need a bathroom on both sides of the beach. Clean ones too.

A Thursday in July. I suppose it's great if you have kids, tents, and ten-foot floating unicorns. Otherwise forget it. Everybody crowds right up to the water's edge, so you can't even see the lake if you're sitting down. It looks like a community bathtub. What a waste of $10. read more
