This is a fantastic trail with spectacular views of Lake Tahoe! If you are in North Tahoe, you must…read morewalk or bike this trail. It'll give you access to waterfront dining like Jake's on the Lake, beaches like Commons Beach, water sports like kayaking and stand up paddle boarding on the lake or rafting on the Truckee River, and parks such as Sugar Pine Point all the way down the west shore of Lake Tahoe. We came upon this trail while we were camping at Tahoe SRA. The trail goes right by the campground and snakes down to the lake. The campground host told us that if we wanted to use the park's pier or rent kayaks at Commons Beach, we'd have to go down this trail. We did and found that it's great for all of those things. We even went down the trail a little after 10 pm to take a look at the stars. We saw the Big Dipper, the North Star, and the Milky Way! If you're in Tahoe City, bike or walk on this trail!

No one was really here when I came as it had just snowed a ton so I got the park mostly to myself. I fall in love with the mountains surrounding the lake everytime I come. And this time, the snow on the peaks with the blue from the water was just totally mesmerizing. There is a parking lot here which was mostly empty when I came but probably very challenging in the summer. Glad I got to see this beach in all its serenity and peace in the middle of winter. Just beyond breathtaking.

Other places, like Preston, it's not necessary. When friends are in town and have kids that need to burn off energy and we have already done the beach / hiking thing, then this is another option. The grounds are gorgeous and there are plenty of nice equipment for the knee biters to go screaming around while adults can go off and have adult conversations that include lots of curse words, ranting and raving or reminiscing about the good old days when they were much younger and more apt to do things that they could have been arrested for (this is all hypothetical, mind you).

Eagle Rock is a relatively short and easy hike that's welcoming for people of all age groups. The…read moretrail itself is less than a mile long, with minimal elevation increases on your way to the top. It's a very dusty path up, so make sure to wear some proper hiking shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. I wore a white, button-up t-shirt and jeans because my in-laws failed to tell me we were going hiking before stopping at the motel. But it was such a light hike that it didn't bother me too much aside from getting my clothes dusty and dirty going up and then coming back down. At the top of the trail resides Eagle Rock, which comprises of sharp, volcanic rock. So definitely be careful while up there. For those with mobility issues, the path does not extend all the way up to the top. So you will have to clamor over some rocks in order to reach the summit. But once up top, you'll get treated to a gorgeous top-down view of Lake Tahoe to one side, and beautiful forest covered mountains on the other. The trail is dog friendly, but there are no trash cans along the path. So make sure to take back out anything you bring in. There is a small, free parking lot at the entrance to park at.

Coming here alone this morning and connecting with nature by myself brought about feelings of peace and solitude, it was very nice having the entire place to myself. Sugar Pine Point State Park - July 13, 2025…read more We were here for a 5 night stay. This is a great campground to stay at during a warm summer's day. There are lots of pine trees and sweet aromas of the forest and flowering shrubs. Coming down off of granite peaks so high and proud, the warm taste of summer under cotton candy clouds. The earth, the wind, the sweet fragrant smell, said more than words could ever tell. Butterscotch Breeze, by Bruce O Most of the campsites are fairly spacious. They have picnic tables and fire rings together with bar lockers. Yes, they have lots of bears, so you cannot leave anything out without fear of a bear. Disturbing your campsite. In fact, if you do leave things out the park Service will give you a ticket . They have nice water running bathrooms and a separate shower facility. There are lots of great hiking and cycling trails. Some go across the highway down to the lake. The Shoreline is not dog friendly, but if you wanna go kayaking, you can walk your dog down and put it in the kayak. There are some nice beaches down at the lake.
