The food lacked in flavor and appeal. I ordered the corndogs and ramen, neither of them seemed to have much flavor.

Went in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch and there was no wait! Waitress was super friendly. I ordered the red flannel hash and it was amazing! My niece ordered the noodle bowl and was very satisfied with her order as well. We also ordered mimosa; for $5 they give you a lot! Enjoyed my brunch. You need to try this place :-) read more

What a gem! My date chose this place because it was near the DIA. We loved the food! It wasn't an extravagant menu but there were fantastic options. We both chose soba noodle bowls with protein. We were a bit ahead of the dinner crowd so it was quiet. The sun shone in the windows and the ambiance was comfortable for visiting. I would return here and try one of their craft drinks. read more

Highly recommended! Our bartender, Kyle, was top-notch. The food and drinks were great, and everything was priced extremely well. We've driven by this place many times, so we were well-overdue to stop and check it out--and I'm very glad we did. Highly recommended! read more

Relaxing vibe. I've been there a few times. Service has definitely improved since opening. The bartender was courteous and attentive -- after asking and checking my ID, he acknowledged an underaged drinker probably wouldn't be ordering a Negroni. Very true. Here's the main reason why I'm writing a review: best fish and chips ever, and a huge serving. If you don't want your fries cooked in duck fat, you can choose vegetable oil (suitable for vegans/vegetarians). Give the fish a try. "The secret is in the batter," I was told (or something like that). A drawback, I feel they don't have enough vegan and vegetarian options. Although I'm a pescatarian, I do try to eat a lot of vegan foods. Plus this is not a place my vegan friends ever want to go to; so that's business lost. Vegetarians can get by. So yes, I will be going back... read more

Unexpectedly tasty! Laidback vibe and good food. I took off a star because the wings could be crispier and they were out of a few drink/food options. I'm totally willing to go back! read more

The staff are all incredibly friendly. Garrett, one of the owners, is engaged and cares about his customers. The food is absolutely top notch, and they have a diverse menu consisting of everything from pho to burgers. Zach, the chef, has a diverse repetoire of cuisines he pulls from and that is reflected in the menu and the final products. This is a really easy place to strike up a conversation with the guy next to you at the bar, and there is a fantastic patio area to enjoy during the warmer months. This place is a gem in Midtown. read more

The best part of Common Pub was the service & staff. We came with a large group, and the service was outstanding. The food choices were great, with plenty of options and everything having a bit of a twist. The flavor was great. The serving size was extremely generous. Unfortunately - despite not even eating half of my meal, having only one drink all night, trying just one wing, one bite each of three appetizers, and hydrating with water all night - my stomach was extremely upset about an hour after I ate, and remained so the rest of the night. Not great, since I had a six a.m. alarm for my conference the next day. read more

Soooo...this establishment has a huge problem. They employ a waiter that is rude to me and my friends every time we eat at Common. Why should we pay to be treated like garbage? Note to all customers considering this pub: If you do decide to go there, sit at the bar. This waiter only works the dining room. Trust me...you don't want him to wait on you. He's awful. read more

Very innovative menu, I would put it in the gastro pub league. This time I had the lamb Curry noodle, which was very tasty and fresh. Last time I have the fried liverwurst sandwich which blew my mind, you must try that! Before that was the salad with a generous portion of grilled tuna, also excellent. They have about 6-8 Michigan craft beer on tap, and not the usual suspects. Very friendly bartenders add to the laid-back, neighborhood feel. It's easy to miss this place from the road, but don't. Plenty of street parking, check it out. read more

Common Pub - Seasonal "The Path of the Angel" from Clown Shoes, yet another great example of "not the usual suspects" craft brews! - Pubs Near Me - Detroit, Michigan

Industrial minimalist interior, large bar w seats, darts in the corner and good food on the table. While we were there early (before 5 pm) after a Hilberry play, I bet it's a great place to just hang out in the later evening as there is plenty of room to mill about near the bar and by the darts. We enjoyed our food which consisted of a Greenbush Red Ale and a 1/2 Fried Chicken for the hubby. He liked his selection. I chose sides for my meal starting with the Wyngz (appetizer and they graciously gave me half General Tso and the orange glazed), the macaroni potato salad and the veggie of the day (snap peas with seasoning). All of my selections were delicious and brought home wings and 1/2 the pea pods. Total, pre tip was $39. Enjoy the experience. We did. And yes, the overhead lights in the open area leading back to restrooms were still flickering. Perhaps a draw on power by something happening in the kitchen or bar? http://detroit.eater.com/2017/1/26/14358430/common-pub-new-detroit-restaurant-photos read more

Have not been here in about 6 months, because of so many changes. $.50 charge for carry-out order, no Renee-nae, best sandwich they had and menu filled with over priced food that tastes mediocre. Was a fan over a year ago, now I am a detractor. Step up your game, Common Pub, you are across the street from a public University. read more

This was our first visit, and we came based on the reviews...especially the extraordinary positive responses from the owners/managers to previous complaints. That showed us that this was a place that deeply cares about its customers. We were more than rewarded for the trip. Our food was amazing -- simple and yet delicious. The space is wonderful, sunny, and inviting. And the service was TOP NOTCH! Our waiter was Emeka and he was awesome -- all smiles, good advice, and good service. Not only will we be back, but this is tops on our go-to brunch list for now. Thank you! read more

I've had most of the menu and it is all better than expected. Probably the best fried chicken I've ever had. Ever. And the poutine changes and all 3 that I've had so far were awesome. I used to think chili and cheese were the only things you could put on fries. I was wrong. The staff is awesome too. Just go there and eat everything. read more

Excellent spot to stop in for a meal & cocktail. The menu is a perfect blend of casual yet classy. The duck fat chicken is AMAZING and the weekly specials have been awesome-- I've tried a few since Common has been open, and haven't been disappointed once. Definitely check this place out! 3.5 that I'll round up to 4. We stumbled upon the Common Pub when a nearby restaurant was already packed for the evening by 5pm. Common Pub was wide open and perfect for our dinner before a show at the Fisher. The food was quite good, the menu wasn't huge but pretty much every item sounded good which was a good sign. It's all fairly basic entrees. We started with the calamari which was crispy and had a nice mix of peppers, etc. our table had a variety of dishes and the highlights were the fried chicken (even the half was a HUGE portion), fish and chips (the fish is "market" but this evening was a firm whitefish) and steak frites (cooked perfectly medium). The service was lacking. It wasn't busy and our waitress wasn't that attentive - we saw the waitress sitting at the bar more than checking on tables. She didn't really know the specials that day either, which wasn't very helpful. Overall the service didn't ruin our night by any means. Inside the decor was - blah. There wasn't really a theme, a few stuffed game animals on the walls. Cocktails were meh. Honestly I'd just get a beer. Most of our cocktails - and we tried almost all of them - were drinkable but nothing to write home about. There was one called a negroni and it didn't have Campari!!! How do you have a negroni without Campari? Because we were able to get in quick and the food was good I wasn't disappointed, but the uninterested service and so/so cocktails I also wouldn't go back. A solid 3.5. read more

Oh hello there. Not too crowded (yet). Eclectic crowd. So far the food I've had is fantastic and everything looks good even if I had to let it cruise by to another table. Beer menu isn't huge but half decent. Service was good. Food came fast and fresh. Music choices ate really good (could get bad if someone takes over the jukebox). If they keep this up my bicycle may be found outside often this summer! read more

I have been looking forward to a new Midtown restaurant for a while, and was super excited that a restaurant was opening where the lackluster Lefty's existed. I really love what they've done with the interior of the place, it looks great. They have a very nice menu for lunch with a wide variety of choices. I had the Crispy Duck Noodles, and OMG it was fantastic. The Duck Confit was divine, and all of the flavors melded together wonderfully. I would eat this every day for lunch if I could. At $15, it might be a bit pricy for others. My coworkers chose the Lamb Poutine, Burger & Fries, and Mac & Cheese, and everything looked and smelled great. I can't wait to go back and try their duck fried chicken! All in all, a good lunch option for Midtown which is VERY much appreciated. read more

The food here is phenomenal! Omg the chicken wings... they were so fresh, you could tell they weren't frozen. My husband got the burger and it looked not exciting but it was juicy, fresh, just delicious. I got the chickpea masala and it was really lovely. The sauce was spicy but well balanced. We can't wait to go back for more wings though! Now the service was terrible. I think there were only two people working. We asked for water 4 times and two of those times we walked to the bar and asked for water. I went up to the bar the second time and waited until I got the water. The food was spicy and there is no excuse when it's not busy to not walk around offering water/checking on your table. We will still return because the food was so unique and fresh and yummy but pleasse work on the wait staff. read more

This place is outstanding, great bar tenders and really great food. This place has the most unique menu I've seen in Detroit. The only issue is parking but I put up with it as it's the place to be!! read more

Great food, super reasonable prices, something on the menu for everyone. Wide craft beer selection. Can't beat a beer and burger for $5. Oh and the guys who run the place are awesome, have a chat about music and thank them for bringing some culture back to the Cass Corridor. read more

I never thought I'd go to a place for something like beet sliders but you can't go wrong with these! It comes with a side of duck fat fries so it's a decent portion for a meal. If you're hungry, don't get the steak salad. It's about as much food as you would bring home in a doggy bag for your fur baby.

Common Pub - The menu in bad lighting. Wish my phone camera was better - Pubs Near Me - Detroit, Michigan

I was recently here for lunch. The menu is more inventive than other similar restaurants, which is a plus. My companion and I both had the duck fried chicken, which was nicely seasoned, and with macaroni potato salad, an interesting combination. It's a relaxed, casual space and the service was friendly. Looking forward to going back and trying other dishes. read more

Dont be duped. This place is AWFUL. Every time my friends have me come here, the staff ignores me. The ponytail bartender acts like he doesnt want tips. I cant even cash out when I ask multiple times. They forget everything. You wait for drinks even when its slow. Bad stuff. Update: manager contacted me. Said he wanted to 'make things right'. He gave me contact info, then proceeded to NEVER answer. Guess thats just the culture here. read more

What a hidden gem! Delicious food, with a variety for all foodies--vegan, vegetarian, omnivores. Had a wonderful dinner. I had the lemon drop martini and my date had the Smokey old fashioned--well prepared. I would definitely eat here again read more

The last time I went to this establishment was 11 years ago and it was more of a dive bar. Different name and I imagine, different management. 11 years later, I come to show my children my old stomping grounds. This bar and grill is so much better than 11 years ago. Far more family friendly, also. The food is phenomenal. Far more unique than a typical dive bar-you can tell they're trying to establish themselves as a competitive restaurant. The staff was limited, so it was a slower service, but with the pandemic and the recent Detroit floods, you have to respect it and not judge. read more

So bummed third time not a charm. Walked in at 10 o'clock barely a greeting. No one in the place and no one available to help us. We wanted a snack and a drink well apparently the staffs drinks and food were far more important. I love this place but where was mgt? read more

When you arrive, you might think you've stumbled into a college hang-out. You might be right, but a college hang-out with adults and reallyreally good food! The service is prompt and the bartenders know what they're doing. At first, I thought the number items that have some connection to duck fat was unique. Then I tasted the duck fat fries... extra crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside and totally addictive. The fish and chips are delicious; hubby loved the fried chicken and ramen fish bowl. The Vietnamese scotch egg is unique and delicious. The menu is concise yet has a lot to choose from. A new favorite restaurant (almost) in the neighborhood! read more

This place is amazing. The poutine is a must have. The dessert is phenomenal. They play awesome music and the service was excellent.

I work nearby and this is a great nearby option for lunch. Their food is great (some items may be a hair on the salty side, but still really good), consistent, and their staff is super friendly. Good prices too. read more

Good food, terrible service...plan on waiting awhile for your food and server even when it's not that busy

Had a weird experience today. My caesar salad was nice, but: - The door was locked upon our arrival 30 minutes after open. We knocked for a bit and ended up having to call to be let in. - We were there during lunch (11:30 am), but they only had the dinner menu. When I asked about the lunch menu, the server pretty much only offered "because" as an explanation. Bummer, because my colleagues and I selected this restaurant solely because the lunch menu looked good, and it came recommended. - On that note, they seemed to be out of ingredients for things on their menu. I tried to order the beet and goat cheese slider, and our server said it would have to have feta on it instead. Not a huge issue, but kind of irritating when taking into account all the other issues. - My coffee came with half and half that, according to the date on the package, expired 8 days prior on 5/8/17. I asked my server for a fresh cup and non-expired half and half. He said sorry, and did return with one, except instead of a full cup of coffee it was a half cup? I guess they ran out? He said he would bring more once he made it, but I had to remind him once our food came 15-20 minutes later. - We had to wait 20-30 minutes for our bill after everyone I was with finished eating. Service was kind of slow in general, which was more understandable when it finally got busy when we were waiting for the bill (good thing someone unlocked the door!), but when we got there, it was dead. So, all in all, weird. I'm pretty tolerant when it comes to bad service, but the fact that all these things happened in one visit was a little inexcusable. I would chalk it up to growing pains, but it looks like they've been open for a bit at this point. Not really chomping at the bit to return! read more

Love this place. Good food at affordable prices and the service is always good. Nothing fancy or fussy about it, just a rock solid spot.

This place is awful. My friends all bought Long Islands ($9 each, by the way... we make this in an hour). Entirely filled with ice, all taste watered down, and ALL taste different. The lighting is flickering. Servers came once in an hour. Super overpriced food and drinks... lefty's was much better. This is a disappointment. read more

Drink selection was disappointing. Definitely a 180 from Lefty's - the cool dive bar that occupied the space beforehand.

A unique little pub nestled in the Wayne state dominated region of Detroit. Lots of duck on the menu, which surprised me because it looked like a pretty regular college area dive. Wait staff was friendly, food was hot, and delivered quickly. Had the bay of pigs sandwich, which was a pork masterpiece. Reasonably priced, we got out with five people eating for under $50 and everyone was full and satisfied. Duck fat fried fries were great. Close to all the museums in Midtown, a nice little walk to any of the major cultural enjoyments near Wayne State. read more
