CIMS has been our HOA management company for over 10 years. As a board member, I have worked directly with several community managers and also have had some additional interactions with both the service managers and the upper management. In general, they check the boxes that need to be checked. They act as a liaison to vendors and homeowners. But over the last decade, they have gone from a involved problem solver, to a complacent, slow, and uncooperative company. After trying to raise concerns to upper management in 2022, we were assured our myriad of issues would be addressed and resolved. It helped for a couple of years, until our manager left for a better company. At the same time, our pricing continued to go up and we started getting charged for more items, and started being warned that certain items which used to be included in our management fee, would no longer be provided or would be add on services. Somewhere along the way, it was brought to my attention that Associa was now an owner of CIMS. This made sense... we suddenly had new service associates and backend teams responding to our owner requests... frequently with wrong information or resolving cases that were not resolved. In several cases, a vendor would say "this is completed", and they marked the work as complete without reviewing the work done or reaching out to the homeowner. Worst thing for a board member is hearing from a resident that said "4 months ago I created a service ticket. I was told it would be sent to the board for approval, then I never heard another word" despite the board approving the work, and there being a complete dropped ball by management. How do they correct these issues? They re-submit a new work request, do not apologize to the homeowner (making the board look even worse), not notifying the homeowner of the new work, and getting charged at times TWICE for the same repair work (which was never done in the first place). In 2025, our board brought up several items of concern to upper management, including several issues like service turnaround times, lack of information accessible in Vantaca (such as homeowner feedback or questions), and their inability to accept payment for ARC requests (or track them in Vantaca). What were we met with? Hostility, non-cooperation, and defensive deflections. Not a single issue was even addressed or apologized for... just fought back with excuses and combative rhetoric. When we finally decided to leave CIMS, they called the board, bad-mouthed their past employees, bad-mouthed our future management company, and were completely unprofessional in the way they went about trying to keep our business. CIMS was a great management company. It stinks that we had to leave them.... but so glad we did. They no longer go to bat for their associations, no longer do proper walkthroughs, no longer are on top of service requests, and are at least 25% more expensive than the other companies we considered. read more

I've been with Common Interest for more than 15 years on an HOA board and Nikki is the best manager I've worked with that consistently over time is very hard working, follows through, and takes the time we need. There are contentions on the board that are dealt with by Nikki not only professionally but kindly too. There is no playing favorites or any of that type of thing that I've seen in others. So many topics are brought up beyond our regular scope and Nikki understands or finds out what is needed right away. We aren't the only account Nikki has, but it feels like it since we have such great results. read more

I am a homeowner under this management company. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this company and how it operates is beyond unprofessional. They do not listen to any of the other owners complains, however they do seem to listen to one board member who owns several units in my community. I've had a recent encounter with the vice president of this organization Melody Murray. Who instead of listening and hearing grievances, she became defensive and challenging my thoughts and experiences. She is beyond unprofessional and shouldn't be in a position of authority. I understand you may not agree with what I may experience, but as a vice president you are dealing in customer service where you should be listening, empathetic , and not biased. Instead she challenged me, stated she would not respond to any more of my emails but then returned with another smart and rude email. Which I can show everyone. This organization is not professional. I am working with the other owners in the community to take legal actions against common interest as they do not have the best interest of the community in mind. Instead they allow one home owner to run the entire Board and does what he says without following bylaws. Melody Murray stated that common interest serves at the pleasure of the board, but her actions showed that wasn't true. Her customer service skills are terrible as she should have just acknowledged that I am a frustrated owner and I have every right to feel how I'm feeling. Instead she challenged everything I stated and did not acknowledge any of my grievances. But in fact sided with the owner who has done many questionable things while serving on the board including but limited to using HOA funds to fix his own unit issues. I don't make these statements without proof. So I will be seeking legal action against this company. I hope that her higher ups see this and understand that she did a poor job in handling this matter. Customer service, you work for the owners not one owner. read more

Pam went above and beyond with her assistance. I am now on the portal and my payments will be automatic. Great representation!

Our organization was begun in the mid-1960s. We have been served by a number of management companies since the beginning and our best one in MY experience was Jones & Forrest, a small-but-dedicated outfit. When they retired, they connected us with CIMS. As a large association (over 850 single-family, low-density suburban group) we are somewhat unusual, with dues due annually and primarily landscaping, graffiti abatement, and trash disposal as our tasks. We have had a few CAMs from CIMS and so far NIkki has been outstanding in organization, responsiveness, and knowledge of the business. Please don't steal her from us. read more

If I could give Common Interest half a star, I would. We have a father/daughter duo on the HOA board that are not residents but own blocks of units on the property. Any suggestions made by homeowners to improve the community typically gets shut down by the father, and the daughter will back him on any decision he makes. They have tenants that break the bi-law rules and no action is taken because they intercept any complaints they receive and will not vote in favor of the property management company to take any action. CI does not listen to its owners and allow this one board member to have his way everytime. In conversation with other owners, the consensus seems to be that we feel discriminated against because we don't own a bunch of properties. Everyone can agree that we are not heard on any matter and because most of us do not have deep pockets like the gentleman on the board (alongside his daughter) we are not treated with the same level of respect that is extended to him. During an HOA meeting in which several homeowners requested to remove these individuals from the board, instead of hearing us out, the facilitator of the meeting from CI placed everyone on mute, but still allowed this person to sling insults at one of the homeowners, uninterrupted. The fact that you have 2 people on the HOA board that do not live on the property, have no clue what our day to day in this community is like, and are only concerned with what benefits them, creates an extreme conflict of interest. I was informed that this particular board member has submitted hand written receipts using the HOA funds to complete repairs for units they own, yet this unethical behavior has been allowed and no action has been taken to remove this individual from the board. These biased and unfair actions should not be tolerated, but Common Interest has not made any efforts to reform or restructure the board. It is discouraging as a homeowner to not feel supported in any way and receive sub-par service from a company that you are paying fees to every month. If I could do it all over again, and would have known then what I know now? I would have NEVER committed myself to owning a place with an HOA, much less have any dealings with Common Interest as the property management company. It's both sad and discouraging that we are subjected to have to live like this. For anyone looking to purchase a condo and Common Interest is the Property Management Company (Brentwood Office)? We have an 80 unit industrial complex in Hayward. We recently hired CIM with Tracie Sweetman as the assigned manager. Tracie has been closely working with us on several issues from parking violations to violent tenets. Each incident Tracie was quick to respond. By far and away the most offensive and unprofessional case of discrimination and threats I have received from Melody Murray with her false accusations of me wilfully breaking and ignoring rules along with the harmful and offensive language used by , Melody Murray regarding my disability in a number of emails to not only my husband but also my landlord is not only discriminatory, but also shameful. I recently just reported both the individual and "CIMS Brentwood" to the Department of Justice, on a number of violations of the American Disability Act via the DOJ department of community and fair housing division. It has been nothing but derisive language along with threats and intimidation with this person . Which has diminished my quality of life here considerably, Also being an immigrant, I feel I have no rights because of the treatment I have been given by Melody Murray. I have sent all of the email thread along to the Disability Civil Rights Commission of California, and highlighted the offensive verbiage used to describe me and my service animals in them. I offered my official diagnosis letters from my physicians as proof of my disability , I was told , "no need for them", however, they still, IN WRITING AND IN CAPS used words like "reportedly has a medical condition" and " Free for all " All the while threatening my landlord. UPDATE: CIMS Team, did not respond to me reaching out to them, as they had asked, I reached out by both, email and phone. I was ignored! Nothing but silence. So they don't want to learn or get better. Which then leaves the likes of Melody Murray and Jazmin Bucio who seem to want to be in breach of the ADA and pressure landlords into bullying their tenants, CIMS is going to have to answer to why they let a disabled woman have a seizure in the swimming pool while ordering her medical rescue dog be tethered and unable to intervene. When police attended, they stated that my Medical service dog has to be allowed to do the job he's trained to. But on this day he couldn't because of Melody Murray, and their threats to ban me from the swimming pool as well as heavily fine my landlord to which she suggested in an email to my landlord that they pass on to me. read more
