Hidden gem. Was vacationing in Rockport and looking for a grocery store. Drove past the Common Crow and figured let's stop for a look. WOW!!! They have nearly everything including fresh meals to go, gourmet coffee and tea, grocery items, beer and wine, HUGE selection of gluten free items, as well as isles packed with crafts, local goods, meat, etc etc. Very impressed. This is an amazing gem of a grocery market found in Gloucester on 127. I came here regularly while I was taking my yoga teacher training classes, and I likely wouldn't have found it otherwise! This market is filled with so many healthy, yummy goodies, as well as a hot bar and sandwich stand in the back of the store, followed by their refrigerator and freezer section. Some of the items are overpriced, but the selection can't be beat in this area. Common Crow has so many different foods and supplements that can't be found elsewhere in the local community. They also have yoga accessories, and skincare towards the front register on the right, including CBD and essential oils. If some of their prices were lowered, I'm sure they would be able to attract more customers, although it is definitely catered towards health-conscious humans who care about what goes into their body, and sometimes that is the true cost of healthcare. read more

Really neat selection of natural and plant based options for this area. Was a bit surprised to find it here. We got sandwiches from the prepared food area. They ran out of a certain bread so the worker just walked over to the aisle and grabbed some more. Good variety, good natural brands and nice ambiance. They do need nice outdoor seating though. read more

Nice Heath food store with excellent sandwiches. We got the black bean burgers and they were very good.

Wish I had better things to say. Really disappointed that they aren't enforcing the mask mandate even though they have a sign saying they do, was just there and at least four adults were shopping without masks. It's not like I love wearing a mask but it's selfish not to, especially when MANDATED by the town. Also, the staff has given me an attitude several times about using my own containers for bulk purchases, isn't the point to reduce waste? I really do want to support local business and keep coming here occasionally even though I've had several bad experiences but I think today might have to be my last visit. In response to your reply I did do all of those things with my jars ahead of time, you were allowing them. I still got an attitude. And as to the exceptions to the previous mandate, I find it hard to believe that two young couples, one with masked children are really an exceptional case, and if they were, why not do their shopping for them while they sit in the car? read more

I am so thrilled to have finally discovered this shop! We've been vacationing here for years and always had to pack a million bags of groceries to bring, then struggle to find organic options to supplement at the local grocery chains. I feel that this store has really excellent selection for its size. When at home we have to drive at least 45 min each way to get to a Whole Foods, or even to a decently-sized natural foods store that is well-supplied. This store had literally everything on our long list and way more besides! I found some new pasta and ice cream options that I've never come across before, both dairy free and grain free, and finally yummy gluten free bagels. The produce section looks very small but has everything a good home cook could need. Really really happy with this store! Just wish it were near the Hudson Valley so I could shop here all the time! read more

I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. Growing up in Northern Vermont, my mom was constantly dragging me to our local Co-Op (or, "the hippy grocery store" as I so lovingly referred to it), and I was slapped in the face with nostalgia as soon as I walked through the doors of the Common Crow. Yes, it is expensive. It would be painful to do the entirety of my weekly grocery shopping here, however, the specialty items are worth a trip. As someone who loves to cook, I often struggle to find the more obscure ingredients locally, and was ecstatic to see an entire aisle dedicated to bulk spices (I see you, Agar Agar). I was also impressed with the wall of organic coffee beans located near the entrance that you can grind in store. While I won't be doing my weekly shopping trips here, you can bet I'll be headed here the next time Bon appetit leaves me scratching my head over ingredients. read more

Great bulk spice selection, good bulk grain selection. Lots of vitamins and supplements and some body and bath products. Deli counter in the back with sandwiches and some vegetarian offerings. What's great though is that you can bring your own containers for the bulk section, have them tared and then fill. Great for avoiding single use plastics! read more

reviewed this place 4 times over the years the reviews got deleted somehow ...anyway the farmers market soup had GINORMOUS hard chunks of potato in it, no thanks, how about cook them? I don't want a plastic container of watery unblended hard potatoes for $7 to $11. Kale salad again had a weird metallic taste maybe it's the balsamic vinegar that needs to be tweaked? read more

This place has the most insane prices. I just bought a medium size chicken noodle soup and it cost over $7.00... I was in disbelief. And everything else here is equally expensive. Don't bother shopping here unless you like spending $200 on 1 bag of groceries and cafe items... only to be questioned if you have a receipt for it all when walking out. Whoever the long, dark/grey haired women is who acts like store security... patrolling patrons while shopping and while walking their dogs outside... thank you for making my experience today so awful that I will never patron Common Crow again. This market is cute and I wished I liked it more but I had a bad experience and will not be returning. I went in for a smoothie and got the strawberry banana. The smoothie was awful. It had no flavor and was watered down with tons of almond milk. The worst part was the incredibly rude lady, Jessica who was working the counter. She had a disrespectful, impolite attitude with everyone she attended, including myself, and definitely did not make me want to return here. They do have a good selection of healthy prepared foods but they're produce is limited and everything is over priced. read more

I just went in for lunch with my mother for some sandwiches and we were briefly looking at the menu. The woman behind the counter making the sandwiches was probably the rudest most unpleasant woman I have EVER met. Her attitude was so poor Tha.t we canceled out order. She made me feel so uncomfortable I wanted to put the rest of my food down and walk out. I told some young girl in the front and her response was just " oh maybe she is having a bad day..." nobody should treat A PAYING CUSTOMER LIKE THIS! I will never step foot in this place again and I highly suggest Tha.t they fire Tha.t woman before they lose anymore customers . read more

The only place I buy meats, dairy and produce on the North Shore. I know I can always trust the products at Common Crow. The owners and staff meticulously vet their vendors and are committed to sourcing ethically raised/grown/made foods. The eggs from Maine in the plain cartons are the BEST! The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. And if I can't find something I need for a recipe, they will special order it. read more

Yum yum yum!! Reminds me of every hippie/natural store I've ever been to. The "vibe" was amazing and the food and produce looked very fresh. They had a coffee shop in back which looked amazing but I didnt grab a coffee so I can't comment to taste. They had a kombucha refill station - AMEN! I've heard a lot about it and grabbed a $10 growler. I'm already about 1/2 way through and it's worth every penny. I plan on bringing it back (or elsewhere) to refill and love this idea. Perfect especially for summer. They had a big bulk section which was great if you needed to refill. I just wanted a small thing of couscous and could've grabbed a box, but was happy to have organic couscous within reach even if not conveniently packaged. 2 thumbs up! read more

I use this store frequently. Yes, it can be more expensive, but they have items which other stores do not carry. and it's always easy to find what I want. Furthermore, I have always found the staff really helpful. On the few occasions I returned something which they gave me a refund without any hassle. Their spices are amazing and meat selection very easy to choose from. As far as fresh produce goes I don't think their prices are that different from a regular market. They often have amazingly good radishes. You just get the feeling this is a store which the owners have really invested a lot of thought. read more

Great food selection! Extremely rude staff member. Unfortunately I Stopped shopping here for a solid 9 months because of a horrible experience. Never in all my years have I been treated this way when ordering a simple coffee at the coffee counter. The woman ignored me at first and when I ordered a small iced coffee, she said very aggressively, that she "can't understand the way I talk." I left shaking with witnesses in the line that were equally appalled at the woman working. This incident Is extremely Frustrating as a woman who has owned a business in the food industry and works in wellness, not to mention communicates very well in the world! I Was physically shaking when I talked to a manager at the front and Unfortunately Nothing was resolved. They said they hoped I would come back. I'd just like to point out that I never write reviews because I think everyone should judge thru their own experiences. It's true that the person could've had a bad day, but this happened multiple times at this business and I think this experience needs to be shared. I have recently returned to pick up some groceries and haven't seen the aggressive woman working. It seems that there's new staff behind the counter and it's a much more pleasant atmosphere. read more

Third time coming home from this place with moldy produce, will not be purchasing anything from here again .

I bought 2 sandwiches, two coffees and an overpriced bag of chips, and paid by credit card at the sandwich bar. When going out, a very tall woman I knew from the UU church stopped me, and asked for my food receipt. I gave it to her and she said I didn't pay for any of the food except for the expensive chips. I was flabbergasted. She made me feel like a criminal. It took her and another woman from our church, 15 minutes to figure out that the store made a mistake. Maybe They mistakenly thought I didn't recognize them bc they were wearing masks. So I had to pay again, then no apology. I'm not going there again. Some of the prices in there are astronomical, $36 for a small bottle of organic vanilla extract? They had a sign up that they were hiring, and it was obvious they needed some good help. read more

I have to agree with Sarah C. It's sad but true. When I see this particular woman working behind the prepared foods counter I won't order anything. She has made me feel very uncomfortable, as if I am bothering her when I interact. Unfortunately, there are few staff members who I feel avoid being friendly to such an extent I have often felt uncomfortable in the store. Then again, there are some employees that have been amazingly helpful and friendly. I will say though that getting snubbed by some of them has made me feel like I don't want to go back in. I used to feel like I couldn't wait to go shopping there. Now I hesitate wondering what kind of energy those working today will have. read more

I'll start my review by noting that organic food is a scam. The common crow natural market is an independent organic supermarket, very rare since whole foods killed them all in early 2000s. The market has a selection of healthy prepared foods packed to go and a coffee bar in the back. Good place to pick up a lunch if you want to avoid restaurants and other tourist traps. read more
