I've been going to comicpalooza on and off for years and it's always a good time. I appreciate the ability to have a conference with good shows, vendors, panels and merch that's not out of state. And the fellow fans really make the experience special. The outfits are really top tier. As someone who loved arrow, going for that panel was a dream come true. The magic show, car displays, K-pop dance troupe and vendors we're definitely other highlights. The merchandise is overwhelming! I found such unique and well crafted posters, jewelry and curious that I really can't find elsewhere. And there are deals to be had too! Also the staff are so nice and helpful, such as in finding the right entrance and so on. Parking can be hard to find, but is available. A really fun and unique experience! read more

Our third year in a row now. If you want to avoid the line pickup your lanyard in advance. On Saturday the line security guard said they were sold out of tickets. This was at 11 am. We bought ours in advance but the pickup line was a half hour long wait at 11 am. This year you have to activate your lanyards. And input for a second time your name (you also have to do this when 6"you buy online so why twice?). 13 floors haunted house was doing a mini haunted house in one of the rooms on the 3rd floor. Vending machines for sodas were no longer there. Security kinda seemed like jerks this year. Roscoe P Coltrane. They had amateur WWE which was fun to watch. Probably the highlight. Parking has gotten more expensive over the years. What used to be $20 is now $30. Also the merch was pricey. Small stickers the size of your car registration sticker is $5. Terribly organized this year. Cost 200$ just ti get in for three tickets and you have to sit on the floor to eat the overpriced food since there are no tables. The entry que was terrible. They let people in the aggressively kicked the people who were inside (in the line) out and they had to go to the back of the super long line. No remorse or care in the world by the security managing the line when THEY let people in in the first place. I wasn't even one of those people but it was terrible to see. read more

I went to Comicpalooza Friday afternoon with my date. She bought tickets for both of us at $25/each. That was a reasonable ticket price for adults on general admission. With way too much difficulty, we found the day's only events: dinner at the Hilton Bar, which was delicious! Best Tater Tots, ever! Loved the cosplayers! We saw a couple dressed as Team Rocket and a man dressed as the Coronavirus! LoL! Then, we danced on the dance floor at the DJ event to classic EDM! Unfortunately, the Dealer's Room wasn't open until Saturday morning. That's why I go to science fiction conventions! I missed Saturday and Sunday because the tickets were $72 and $68! My date went to Comicpalooza alone on Saturday because she was unsure I wanted to go. She complained about how disorganized the event was. Nobody knew where or when anything was! If Comicpalooza wants my business, typically $100/day, they need to charge the same $25 admission every day, brief all staff of the schedule and event locations and post them everywhere, so us consumers can afford to go and find everything! read more

Sunday afternoon review: Very disappointing. My husband is a vendor (at other events) and he couldn't believe what they were charging ($160.00) for two to enter, plus $25 for parking (which is typical for parking). Here is the issue with this, what are you getting for the money? You pay so much to get in that there is little money left over to purchase items from vendors--a point my husband brought up. If the entire convention is a vendor market, then they should charge less so people can spend more on the vendors. It has to be worth the vendor's while. Now, the artists were hit and miss--very poorly created. There were some breathtaking artists as well--true artists--amazing! This is not a subjective statement. Even if I don't care for a particular style, I respect the artistry. There were a lot of amateur artists that were squeezed next to great artists. I am not upset that a starving artist is trying to make it (we all start somewhere), but when we're paying the kind of money that Comicpalooza is charging--I better be WOWED! There were maybe five artists that did that...the rest was repeated again and again. Very few costume vendors, people selling soaps and lotions--huh? This is not the appropriate place for that. NOTHING to do with film or comics. Car show. What car show? A bunch of cars with car wrap. Nuff said. Where were the bat mobiles, Back to the Future Cars, Scooby Doo Van, Barbie Corvette etc.? Nope. That in itself would have been worth the price. Even car art like the baby Yoda that is displayed out front. The celebrities? Where? This panel was okay, but we didn't know who any of them were--had to look them up. The biggest celebrity was Terry Crews from AGT and Alice Cooper. And having them shoved far to the corner, is not the greatest position for them. In all fairness perhaps they were there on Saturday? Keep in mind we went Sunday afternoon. There were a few VERY rude vendors and volunteers like another reviewer stated. Nothing that Comicapalooza can do about that, but it was disappointing. Why didn't they just put signs on the side doors "NO ENTRY Follow arrow to purchase tickets". That's it. Luckily, a nice lady behind us told us where to get the tickets. Easy-peasy. It would have saved all of us embarrassment by the security yelling at us to not come in. We weren't coming in, just asking the gentleman who walked in before us if he could tell us where the ticket line was. We are rule-following folk and don't need to be attacked. FYI Signs work wonders. There wasn't as many food vendors either as someone had mentioned. I wasn't even aware there was an upstairs until I read the reviews. It would have been nice if people were provided a bag and a map (yes I know you have a website)--to give me something for the money I paid. It provides me with a souvenir--makes me feel like I received something for my purchase. I received bags at the car show and bags at the Nutcracker market. Here, nothing. Feel empty--including my pockets. There should be a lot more interactive activities and a little more entertainment. No music. Not upbeat. Few comic book vendors. I doubt we will go back. We just didn't feel the energy like most events we go to. Maybe it was better on Friday or Saturday? I dunno. This was very sad. I'd rather save my money and buy from the vendors online and support them that way. (Sigh). Please lower your prices for next year, or offer more interactive events. read more

This event in 2022 was tons of fun. The VIP package was worth it just because I got to skip the line on for the panels. The VIP bar area setup was also cool. I would totally recommend the VIP package if you plan on going to any of the popular panels. The activities were nicely planned. Overall, a fun time: worth the money in my opinion. read more

Comicpalooza has priced themselves out of business for my family. It cost the three of us almost $250.00 once we parked and paid for a Sunday pass before ever walking in. George R. Brown was hot, humid, and crowded. I'm glad they are doing well but I'll stick to spending my money in the local comic stores and pass on this in the future. read more

This yearly event seemed a little lackluster than other years in 2021. With smaller spaces available and less events. You would assume it's because it's post Covid (hence why tickets had a Covid fee and were less adorable) however given the circumstances you'd think they'd allotted more space for their panels. Instead what we ended up with was smaller crowds more densely packed in a smaller space. Artist ally seemed very vacant, I'm assuming because a lot of smaller sellers didn't do well last year, and the exhibit hall was also less varied than prior years. Celebrities attending for autographs and photo ops were alright although not anything I looked forward to. Food options were limited, and badge pickup was even more confusing than it's been in the past. With multiple miscellaneous lines starting in random spots and converging at various points. The staff volunteers did their best, but there is only so much you can do with disorganization. Everything in general was priced at inflated rates compared to years prior as well. The car show was nice, but the convention could've done a better job and restricting close access to these cars. Overall this year the convention was a total bust and unless the celebrity ops impress you I'd pass and support local businesses online instead. read more

There was a time when I would have given Comicpalooza a five-star review. Unfortunately, this last weekend really wasn't it. They normally have the event over Memorial Day weekend, but the last couple of years that hasn't been the case, which can make attending and navigating a bit of a problem. Comicpalooza is a lot more than just comics. It's a massive multi-genre convention with segments for just about any kind of geekdom you can imagine. They take over the entirety of the George R. Brown on a weekend every year. The first floor features the photo ops and autograph sessions on one end (put your cameras away unless you've paid for a shot), a massive showroom floor with artists and vendors in the middle, and a "maker space" on the opposite end with 3D printers, fighting robots, etc. The top floor has workshops, arena space with showcases like Roller Derby and pro wrestling, and celebrity Q&A panels. Between one-way streets and garages that fill up quickly, its a bit hard to get to if you don't already know your way around Downtown Houston. Once inside, it can really be no easier to navigate, especially this year, when elevators weren't working, escalators were all going in only one direction, and you had to walk halfway across the building to find a way down. The lineups are generally decent. They've brought in some notable guests throughout the years I've gone, ranging from leads in super hero films and shows, Star Trek actors, former Power Rangers, even Chuck Norris. The Q&A panels are generally very good. They're moderated by a local television or radio personality who understands presentation. They're also really good about reserving them for the bigger celebrity guests. The only times they suck is when they open Q&A to the fans for too long and you're suffering through the idiots who want to say they got inspired by so-and-so and want advice for an "aspiring actor." They seem to add additional sections every year, depending on who is coming for the first time. This year, video games got the biggest expansion, with more booths than I'd seen in years prior. It was probably due to a developer's sponsorship, but I'm not complaining. Nothing is cheap. Admission is reasonable, but parking is expensive, food and drink is ridiculous ($5 for a regular coffee?!), and even taking a photo with a C-list actor will set you back $40 or so. If you come prepared, this isn't a huge issue, but it's not exactly friendly to people on a budget. If you're a fan of any kind of geekdom, this is a must see event. Even if you're not, it's worth attending at least once. read more

How far this once great pop culture event has fallen. Although the initial feel was "WOW, so many more people were attending this year than the past". The main floor seemed packed with vendors and cosplayers. This quickly changed as we explored the entire venue. What in the past was a multi level convention center packed with guest is reduced to a single level vendor based sellers market. Gone from the past is the third floor gaming rooms, ESPN live competitive gaming, LARP area, computer gaming rooms, multiple panels. This is not the interactive even it once was. I understand the whole COVID issue. For gamers this was the place in the south to go to see the new board games, learn existing games, and even compete with other players. The game area went from the large 3rd floor and ballroom to 14 tables in the 2nd floor hallway. Gone this year is all the board, card and roll playing tournaments. Panels seem to be smaller and not well put together. In the past NASA, Marvel and others were here. Not this year. This too was on the third floor with separate rooms not in the vendor area. The large science area also is gone this year no NASA, Robotics, 3D printing.... Ever since the city took over this it has continuously declined. Went from a 3 day event (Memorial Day weekend) to a 2 day ever changing dates. For someone who attends other pop culture events that are continuing to grow annually this is the only one downsizing from a once " great and hard to pack into 3 days" to a one day ticket is all you need. read more

This was my first time at Comicpalooza and wow, I can't wait to go back next year! We went on a Friday with tickets from Yelp, and the convention took up 2 floors for the GRB and was huge! It was hard to find our way around at first, which was the only thing I didn't like, but thankfully it was Friday and the crowds were laid back (Saturday was another story though from what I saw, especially when Patrick Stewart came around). Galactica-con was also happening at the same time and there were plenty of fans walking around in colonial fleet garb. One young lady who came all the way from New York to attend even helped me play an X-men arcade game that I've been searching for for years and finally found at the convention! There were several people walking around in Power Ranger costumes (the original Blue and Black Rangers were there for autographs), anime costumes (Cloud Strife!), superheroes, and steampunk. The panels were interesting, though I couldn't really participate since they were mostly "how-tos" for fans who were looking to increase their fandom skills (like costume-designing). We tried to sneak in to a brony panel but were afraid we'd stick out like a sore thumb (I forgot to wear my My Little Pony shirt) and get horse-kicked outta there (get it? har har). Other than the panels, there were also several events happening simultaneously like Harry Potter quidditch matches (since everyone playing was apparently a Muggle, all they do was run around with broomsticks in between their legs while playing), wrestling (Doomsday Wrestling was comedic and hilarious! NWA Wrestling was more "serious" and I even saw a little girl start crying when she thought her favorite wrestler was losing), and a live show of Rocky Horror (they really should have had an actual big screen for this though, as they only had a small projector and it was hard to see the live actors). Right next to the arcades were the MechCorps, where you can get into a pod and control a simulated robot in a free-for-all against other players to see who can score the most kills. Table-top and card gamers had a section all to themselves and had several games to choose from, though I wish I knew how to play. The vendors had toooons of cool merchandise and I was tempted to buy several t-shirts (I'm too fat though) and retro-consoles (SNES and games, droooool). All in all, I thought it was a great convention, especially as it was my first experience. I really hope they can tighten up how it's organized next year, as the GRB is gigantic and the room numbers didn't always coincide with the maps they handed out at registration. There were volunteers everywhere to help guide you, but sometimes even they were pretty confused by the layout. So hats off and see you next year! read more

I know, even I cringed when I decided to give this convention three stars, but a few incidents made it necessary to dock them a point or two. Let's go with the basics. This is a comic convention for comic book nerds of all shapes and sizes. I love seeing everyone dressed up. Unfortunately my fiancee and I decided it was too freaking hot in Houston to wear our costumes, but to everyone else, especially those wearing the Alien and Predator costumes...you earned my respect! Over the years, I liked how they cleaned up the ticket situation. In previous years will call and the purchase of tickets were done on the same floor, so it was a huge tangled mess. On the first floor there is what you call the dealer's room. They literally have everything imaginable. Do you need batman lingerie? Check. Do you need a painting of Wonder Woman in the form of a cat that takes up half your wall? Check. Are you in desperate need of discounted comics, toys, and fairy jewelry galore? Check. Do you want to go crazy looking at nothing but pretty drawings, ahem sexy drawings, and their artists who will make you cry as you wished you learned to color in the lines by the time you were in the 3rd grade? Check mate! That same floor is also where all the celebrities dwell in one area of the convention for autographs and pictures. It tends to be crowded and you'll hear lots of "No Pictures," because some other fan just spent over $200 to take a hideous selfie with Stan Lee as an example. No judgement, more power to you, but sometimes the prices hurt me profoundly. I would need to be ridiculously invested in a certain fandom, say Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot with her in full Wonder Gear, for me to pay that. It also makes me sad for fans on a budget. There are panels! Yay! The celebrity panels are usually well done with a local radio DJ personality interviewing them. I've seen mostly people from KRBE and I believe Houston's NPR doing the interviews. The fan questions can be ridiculous, good, or just a really cute little kid. There are sports like terrible beginning wrestling, roller derby, and the like to keep you engaged and they have really great side panels too with lesser known people and just plain fans talking about things that matter to us comic geeks like the history of Bucky. I definitely advise you to buy a three day pass, so you can fully experience it. What did I not like? One, some of the smaller panels this year, were simply not well prepared and were basically reading straight from a piece of paper. A paranormal panel had one panelist read descriptions from websites I've read in the past. If that's your field, you probably shouldn't be reading it word for word, because you looked unprepared. I hate the food prices. You are being tortured for money. Also, some of the volunteers were just ugly rude. My fiancee, a mutual friend and I went into the wrong room where they were doing Cosplay and we were lost, because the program had an error. The volunteer was rude and said we needed to leave, without even bothering to help us. As we tried to figure out where the event we wanted to go to was located, I saw this same volunteer with a few others, be just as rude and ugly to those in costumes while yelling they were doing this for the fans. That's right. They were, because without that cute cosplayer with the $200 costume, having paid maybe over $200 to have met her favorite celebrity, and who knows how much more in the dealer's room, that nasty attitude of the volunteer wasn't warranted. Remember, you're doing them a favor by allowing them to even volunteer and have perks. You actually paid for this, make sure you complain, you adorable little cosplayer you. It's a great experience, but be willing to leave the smaller panels, bring money, and most important of all, if you're spending crazy money, don't let some rude volunteer talk down to you. This isn't high school. It's real money. Get their name, go to comicpalooza and complain- the end. You deserve to have a fun time, because I am positive you spent more than me and if you can't even be spoken to in a professional manner, then your money needs to be spent at a Con where folks will respect you. read more

This was our first time attending Comicpalooza and I must say we will definitely go again! It was much larger than I anticipated and I kind of liked that they had the celebrities more out in the open instead of behind closed doors. It really made the experience more worthwhile. My husband and I took a photo with Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street) and it was definitely worth every bit of $$ that we paid! My favorite con out of the ones we have access to in Houston. This one is really well organized and they bring out a lot of great guests!

Went in on Saturday only (So can't comment on Friday or Sunday). Pretty fun and cool for the most part. The line to get in was very organized and easy to follow. Very expensive to park, but that it the usual for these kind of things and something to know. Only main problem was the terrible attitude from some of the volunteers. I wasn't aware we weren't allowed to just take pictures of the celebrities from far away, and one of the volunteers basically threatened me. Looked like he would have beaten me up, so I just left that place entirely. I would have been fine if the guy just said that you aren't allowed to take pictures, but he came off as rude and aggressive. The only comparison is to another convention in which had the same celebrity thing, but they allowed pictures from outside a certain boundary (so not too close to the actor, but you are allowed past a distance). So, when I got too close, the volunteers calmly just mentioned it to me and I was completely okay with that. Also, feels like a scam to pay a round 50-100 dollars to get a simple selfie with a celebrity, so I don't recommend paying for that especially if you're one a budget. Only exception is if you are really into a fandom. I might have done the autograph and selfie with the Doctor Who actor in Comic Palooza, but that one volunteer scared me and I didn't feel safe. Other than that, everything else was super fun. So, just don't let bad volunteers ruin your fun. There's plenty of things to see and lots of cool cosplayers and merchandise. read more

And yet another Comicpalooza rolls through town. Comicpalooza is the first and largest comic/pop-culture convention here in Houston. I've been attending since it first launch at the GRB in 2010 and it has grown quite a bit each year. It's one of my favorite things to do in Houston but I really wish they would move off Memorial Day weekend... either a week earlier or later... but I doubt that will happen anytime soon. This year (2013) the con was the largest one yet, but it felt almost the same as last year due to bring much more spread out among the convention center. If you didn't get to go this year, consider 2014. Also keep your eyes out for Space City Con that takes place in August, it's Comicpalooza's only rival (so to speak). read more

This event has a looooong way to go before it gets near the SDCC, but ... it's coming around, and I will totally come back next year. 2013 I saw Patrick Stewart speak, with became a mini-internet event (even though people were asked not to film anything). The location for the Stewart event had to be changed last-minute ... organizers didn't realize how popular he'd be. There were very cool and nice celebrities to sign autographs and snap pictures. I look forward to more in the future. The Battlestar Gallactica event looked ...sad. I'm glad I didn't pay for it ... GOING FORWARD: 1) have big instillations, statues --- the floor space is huge, so encourage vendors to take up space with cool stuff 2) MARVEL booth 3) DC booth 4) Dark Horse booth 5) Mile High Comics, booth 6) SideShow collectables booth 7) PROMOTE ON LOCAL TV -- seriously, I'm a nerd, and I forgot about this until 3 days beforehand --- ESPECIALLY THE LOCAL NEWS, like KPRC and Newsfix (not just Houston Press) 8) INVITE LOCAL FOOD TRUCKS to hang out outside the convention center! 9) more stuff for the KIDDIES 10) carpet is nice ... there was carpet for the NRA thing ... 11) getting tickets day-of was a pain .... I'm getting tickets online beforehand next time. 12) I could have walked upstairs, into speaking evens w/o paying. People only checked when I went into the exhibit hall ... 13) REAL BADEGES, EVEN FOR ONE-DAY PASSES. They're a nice memento. Those arm-bands stink 14) It would also be nice to get those big bags at check-in, like @ SDCC. David N. Made check in a blast and his costume was too cute! I am not a huge comic book person but my husband is so this event was more about him and his excitement than mine. He really enjoyed the artwork and the artist some of the drawings were truly amazing!! As our tickets were for the first day only, the word on the street was that the following day was the best if you truly wanted to partake in the "experience". Not to many people out on Friday, things were not bare but you could tell there was a ton of empty space with a lot more to come on Saturday. I enjoyed to old scool gaming area where guests could play both NES and SNES which were two of my favorite pastimes. What used to be a solid fandom/sci-fi/fantasy/comic/gaming convention- a well-rounded con that catered to a wide variety of Houston's fanbases- has now become little more than a high-priced low-quality autograph-fest that has pretty much dumped the rest of what makes conventions like this worth going to. There are other cons in the same time frame in Texas with far better guests, gaming, panels, etc. that people can go to. Since the City of Houston took over ownership, it has been mismanaged to the detriment of both attendees and the various people who work cons like this, and the new owners show no sign of learning from the mistakes of last year. read more

Had an all weekend pass. It was a TOTAL BLAST! I am ever so glad that we went Friday to get our passes and peruse the aisles. So very much to see. We were both excited to see the first annual DRAG SHOW. And the cool thing, Tatiana, one of the judges is the brother of one of my dance coaches our GLBT community may be very large but it is still a small world! The show was a lot of fun! Saturday I peed a little when I saw Norman Reedus, Michael Rooker, and Lennie James (JK). I met some AMAZING artists and I do mean TOP NOTCH. A big group of artists and actors went to Brennan's of Houston where my hubby is a wine som so we got to hang with some cool folks come Sunday. We added some great art to our collection on Sunday. The only complaint I have is FOOD. Both days I literally had EXPLOSIVE DIARRHEA!!! As in, I had no idea anything could come out that fast nor that furious. Vin Diesel would not want to star in this role neither! My alpacas were a hurting Sunday night! By the time Game of Thrones was on and The Battle of the Bastards was in full swing, I was all a glow of what an amazing weekend I had had and looking forward to 2017! This is probably the best con I've gone to, to be honest. Four days of jam-packed programming, a huge number of dealers/artists/presenters, and some of the friendliest people I've met were there. The entire building was pretty much booked out for this, and it was amazing to see so many people in one place. I spent the majority of my time going to writing track panels, and they were for the most part very fun. Some stayed more focused while others transformed into conversations among the panelists, but I feel like I've learned a lot during the con. The number of very creative artists and opportunities in Houston I've discovered are astounding! Also, may I add the Nerdlesque was good enough on Saturday I came back to watch it a second time the next night? I have heard there were issues with the costume contest, and I didn't bother meeting any of the guests doing formal signings, but all in all I had an absolute blast. First Con for our tiny comic fan, and it was a hit. Family friendly, organized, and lots of interesting programming. There was a kids room with Games to try (mostly for 8+), Legos, and some coloring. It was a terrific oasis from the hustle and bustle of the show floor, providing a convention room for some running free and getting the wiggles out. Writers track featured publishing veterans generously sharing insights and experiences based on decades in the games industry. Interesting to learn more about how the professionals are making it work! The small time game developers on the second floor were generous and kind to the young fans, speaking to them directly about their work and letting them try out the demos. Mixel Man! Comicpalooza has several shows within the show. It wasn't always clear which events were special and what were part of general admission - so we just didn't bother to try... we had plenty of fun. Next year, we will do more research on the sessions we want to see and make our own schedule.. The end of the show floor was devoted to a Mini-Maker Faire- showing off mostly various 3 D printing cooperative opportunities in the Houston area. The Techno Chaos impressed us because they had their staff on hand, which really gave you a sense of how they could help boys and girls connect that cool stuff with STEM activities. (Shhh! There was some learning going on...do not tell MOM!) --------------------- Got a good rate for a downtown hotel room for the weekend. The downtown Houston YMCA was a great wiggle break for the kids to have a change of pace. Allow enough time to find presentation rooms, sometimes the rooms were shuffled.. and by the time we would find it.. it was standing room only. read more

I came as part of the Houston Roller Derby League and had a nice time. 2017 had a handful of notable guests; the most interesting in my opinion being Robert Englund AKA Freddy Krueger. Unfortunately, I felt this years programming and panels to be lacking. Truly, few of the actual panels were completely forgettable, though I was very excited for the Nerdlesque show! If I had more free time outside of Derby (who also provided my badge) I think I would have been more frustrated and not felt the badge was worth the cost. This convention has just about the best Artist Alley/Dealers Room I've seen in a Houston con. Plenty of dealers and artists, spacious walkways, and a food court! On the topic of food, if you are not a Houston native, brought your own car or not exceedingly wealthy: BRING YOUR OWN FOOD! I realize this is not under Comicpalooza's control, but the markup the convention center puts of food is CRIMINAL! Seriously, $6.50 for just the chic fil a sand which? I'll pass. The McAllisters Deli attached to the convention center SEEMS promising, but being the only "fast food" option, the line just to order was 45 minutes + For half the cost, and half the time you can eat somewhere else, but will likely have to Uber or drive. And now that I've brought up Ubering or driving, be aware there is virtually no street parking and all nearby lots were a $10 a day minimum, and some as high as $20. I believe hotel guests did not have this issue however. It might be a great deal cheaper to Uber, depending on your location, than to attempt to park yourself. My biggest complaints, nearby food and parking, were not directly under Comicpalooza's control, but seeing as they are the event bringing thousands of people to the area, they could try a little harder to hammer out some deals on behalf of their attendees. And once again, with all the space available in GRB, try to have more panels, or at least have your more interesting panels have multiple scheduled times. I've noticed that most Comicpalooza's have really gotten expensive. Cost $48 to get in on Saturday. The worst thing is they sell so many Photo-Ops that A list celebrities are tied up for 3 to 4 hours so the general admission people have to wait hours for them to return to their tables. Then there is a huge line to get to them. The June show, I had to pass on Sigorney Weaver and Bill Paxton. Line was way too long. They need to limit the photo -op tickets they sell so you dont have to wait 4 hrs for a celebrity to get back. Also I've noticed the celebrities are charging a lot of money for their autograph. I know his has nothing to do with the event planners. Use to be $20 to $30 for an autograph. Now it's $40 to $100!!! Plus the A-List actors at this show wouldn't take a picture with you. For instance Carl Weathers wanted $60 for his autograph and no picture with him... (I passed) One of the thrills is taking a picture with them. Lastly, the volunteers really get carried away with an attendee trying to take a pic of a celebrity from a distance with their phone. One guy screamed at the top of his lungs "No Pictures.) that rule sucks. What are they going to do arrest me for taking a picture. I paid $48 to get in so I should be able to use my IPhone when I please. I never did get to see Kate Beckinsale she was gone so long doing the photo ops... I definitely don't go as much as I use to... Greed is alive and well. Never understood why a celebrity who is already a multi millionaire charges $60, $70, $80 for their signature. Comicpalooza is among the best Texan owned Con's in the state! Thanks for supporting our community! Houston owned and Texas grown! Well run and put together. Highly recommend to anyone that loves the scene. Great experience for the entire family. So much fun! Don't miss the guest and panels. You usually have to drive a ways to get this quality. This is a wonderful "geeky" Con and local to Houston...sure not as huge as San Diego Comic-Con...but so many panels and guests from TV, Movies, comic writers and artists, sci-fi Fantasy writers and even people from real life science stuff, like astronauts...you will surely find something and more. This was a five star convention in 2015, but 2016 was a majorly dropped ball, and I'm desperately hoping the con hasn't jumped the shark. On the plus side, the dealer hall has got a huge variety of awesome stuff and the panels are also impressive in variety and tend to be a lot of fun. On the down side, the con has gone from a four-day to a three-day event, and 2016 was completely devoid of dancing and nighttime activities. 2015 has Nerdlesque shows at night and a DJ set up on the third floor creating an atmosphere similar to a miniature version of what you might see at Pulse Bar at the Marriott during DragonCon. Both of these had been eliminated in 2016, and there were many of us wandering the convention center halls at 9:00 on Friday and Saturday nights, utterly dismayed and complaining of boredom. If this con can get back to its 2015 glory, all will be right with the universe, but as of 2016, this con was only so-so, and not a fun place at all in the evenings. UPDATE: 2017 fixed absolutely nothing. Still no nightlife, still no DJ, still only a three-day event. (And no, an off-site party at a club that you have to pay extra to get into doesn't count as nightlife). 2018 is scheduled for Memorial Day, which got me excited at first, but turns out it's still only a three-day event! And to add insult to injury, the three days are Friday - Sunday rather than Saturday - Monday. This makes NO sense, since a lot of people have to work Friday but not Monday. Ugh, I miss the old Comicpalooza. 2015 was something I would have traveled from out of state to attend. 2016 and 2017 were barely worth walking down the street for.
