I used to go to Comic Relief all the time back in the day. As a matter of fact, it was my go to shop. Then I stepped away from comic books for a while. Having recently returned to reading and collecting, I have had the opportunity to visit a couple of times. The first experience was very underwhelming. My friend and I went in looking for some back issues. There was a single person working who didn't even bother to greet us when we walked in or even say two words. As we hunted through the back issues, again, wasn't spoken to at all. Finally I asked about a couple books was basically waved over towards the general area. His dinner was much more important. (Spent over $30) But hey, everyone has an off day so I said I would give it another chance later on. Second experience started with a phone call that left me feeling like I was causing an inconvenience. But I wanted the books and they had them. So off I went. This experience was much like the last. Walked in and there wasn't anyone around at all. I found the book I was looking for on the shelf and grabbed it and proceeded to browse back issues again. Found some I wanted. Owner/manager finally appeared and chatted with another person that came in afterwards. Still didn't acknowledge me. Went to check out, stood at the counter while he wandered around. Finally noticed me. Checked me out ($40). Barely spoke. So...while they have a great selection of back issues and current stuff is usually in stock, I am about the experience as much as the purchase and it was just a sucky experience. Comic Relief was not a welcoming place. I don't know if it is because I am not a regular or what. If all you want is to get your books and leave, then have at it. If you want an enjoyable experience and especially if you are new to the store or comic collecting, I would recommend heading over to Amazing Bookstore on Richfield or, if you don't mind the drive, Coy Comics in Saginaw. I just stopped by in this comic shop today ! I'm local ( newly ) to the area; I MADE a Yelp account TODAY ( at the time of this posting ) - JUST to leave a positive review of my experience ! - I WOULD HAPPILY RECOMMEND THIS COMIC SHOP ! - I WILL BE BACK OFTEN ! The store : quiet / clean / warm / and fairly organized which I love ( I mentioned the atmosphere & temperature today since outside is 29 degrees F. - inside the store was probably 75-80. Warm. ( but NOT too hot ) * is a smaller store, BUT that is NOT a criticism ! The space is great & is a real deal ! - has quite a bit of overflow / even some duplicates on many Bronze Age books - preset Quite ALOT of silver age books & back issues as well. Has PLENTY of decent / ( I'd say ) comics to fill your collections spanning many publishers & eras * PRICES : I think are pretty good overall. Even the " wall " books where KEY issues + SPECIAL / Variant covers prices ( I think ) were all well priced & some may even be a great deal ! * the man behind the counter ( didn't catch his name but he was wearing glasses ) - WAS VERY POLITE & welcoming - Talked with me a few minutes & even allowed me to browsed the wide variety of long Boxes / Back issues Was happy and willing to answer any questions ! It's amazing, amazing people, amazing everything, cheap comics, people working there so nice to help. Amazing amazing store.

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon about an hour before closing. We were very hesitant about going after reading the other reviews. The person working greeted us when we walked in and asked if we needed any help finding anything. Told him we were from out of town and he proceeded to give us a quick rundown of the store's layout. Told us if we had any questions or needed any help, just let him know. Found a book that I liked and took it up to the register. Had a conversation with the guy about another customer that had come in while we were there. (They were looking for a gift for their grandson and had no idea about what to look for or how much comics cost.) Dude was really nice to us and was pleasant with the other customer as well. Glad we stopped in and will probably go back if we are in that neighborhood again. read more

Best comic shop in Genesee County. Bright and roomy with lots of back issues to choose from as well as the most comprehensive selection of current books in the area. The outspoken staff are generally very helpful and always willing to help you find what you're looking for. read more

Been waiting on the phone for a half an hour, just to see if they had a new comic in stock. Was "put on hold" but staff member just sat the phone and forgot about me for 20 minutes. Staff is generally rude, especially to comic newcomers. Would not recommend. read more

Stock seems to be hit or miss, the employees are really rude and unfriendly. If you're just looking to get into comics, go elsewhere because you're going to be treated really poorly and made fun of after you leave. I know this because I watched it happen and immediately left and will not be returning. Take your business where its appreciated. read more

First time I've been in Comic Relief since before the original owner sold the business off. But, the employee who pulled a copy of Uncanny X-Men #1 for me was very helpful. Wasn't disappointed at all. Comic Relief had lots of boxes with back issue comics. What disappointed me in the past was how the original owner treated his customers. I was impressed that under new ownership, the employee who greeted me was very helpful. Would recommend. read more

Over the years (and some ownership changes), Comic Relief has moved from being comic-centric to leaning more toward tabletop gaming (e.g., HeroClix). That said, they still offer a great selection of the newest releases and the best collection of back issues in the area. Seems more and more desolate and underwhelming each time I go in, though, and doesn't seem to be as fun a place to go as it used to be. Still the best option in the area. read more

SCAMMERS AND DRUG DEALERS!!!!!!! If I could give this place a lower rating I would. These are the worst kind of people. They have poor hygiene they are loud and rude. And simply out to rip off unsuspecting people who come in their store I have had multiple experiences where I have met people who have been taken advantage off by them. As well as friends and family. My nephew went there with a magic card he sold for $10 not knowing it was valued at $200+, my friend went there after his new baby came and he sold his comics for $70 actual value on the collection $1700+ he was lied too by the owner or from what I understand one of the owners. I did happen to meet a man who was shorter with red hair who I have been told is a owner. He was just one of the worst people I have ever met he sported a fake tan and talked poorly of all his customers like they were beneath him. And while I was there I watched him mark up prices on many products I knew only to be a fraction of its value. But possibly the worst thing I saw was that parents were letting their children spend time here and they were openly selling drugs. Although they would go outside before exchanging money. read more
