If you have books that you bring in to trade, they put some credit on your account which you can use to buy books. This is a great concept that encourages more reading and is eco-friendly. It's rare that I have time to read for pleasure anymore, but I've picked up a few titles that I'm looking forward to reading during these cold winter months curled up on the couch with a hot cup of tea in hand.

It's a great selection. The shelves are well organized by category and author, but there are also miscellaneous boxes to go through that have not been filed yet. A bonus treasure trove. Everything here is very reasonably priced, and you can bring in books to get discounted prices. I never leave empty handed. I always find something here that I need every time we visit. A great store also means a great owner. It is all part of the experience. She is friendly and helpful. She knows where everything is in the store and can suggest titles and authors that suit my reading preferences. She knows her customers well and her recommendations are always great. She is very nice, very intelligent, and very knowledgeable, not only about books and authors, but about a wide range of subjects. She is very well read. We can discuss books, film, television, the book industry, and anything under the sun. We come for the books and stay for the conversation. The owner is awesome, so her shop is a destination. GW and ER are such important, 'kindred souls' that supporters put up the $$$$ to cut a door connecting the shops so you can wander back & forth. ER is strongly focused on serving neglected social communities ~ afflicted children and the bereaved as well as the neighborhood's substantial gay/lesbian and 'minority' populations. Doesn't have great breadth of stock but will order any book they can find for you, call when it comes in [and save you shipping]. They routinely discount bestsellers and have a 'freebie' section where lots of really good books get recycled for nominal contribution. Staff is sharp, personable, worth talking to. There's a fairly eclectic magazine rack, greeting cards, some world craft items, works by local artists, and specialized racks related to Michigan and to medical cannabis. Scott also makes a small community room available, hosts readings and guest authors; there's no telling who you'll run into at the ER / GW ...
