I called the Comfort Suites in Salem to request a refund since we are unable to make our trip there for June 7th - well over a week in advance. I spoke to Marie who said I didn't qualify for a refund due to the huge discount I received when booking this room with Expedia. However, I had your site pulled up and saw the rate would be $170. I failed to see how $22 is a huge discount. When I mentioned this, Marie laughed. So I asked her if she thought this was funny. She continued to be rude and condescending about my concern as to why I couldn't receive a refund. I find this policy outrageous and your staff extremely unprofessional. I called the Customer Service line at Choice (1-800-300-8800) and was told that Expedia would have to issue the refund. I called Expedia and they said Choice Hotels would have to issue the refund. They attempted to call the hotel in Oregon with me on the line and the manager refused to refund me. Expedia said the choice to refund is that of Choice Hotel. I called Customer Service again at Choice and they said they will not refund me. Period. This is nothing short of theft and is absolutely unacceptable. If I had made the same reservation on your website, I would receive a refund. Policy should not matter when life happens and reservations are cancelled within the company policy. This is NOT how you treat your customers. With so many choices of where to stay, I can tell you this experience has left me never wanting to stay at a Choice hotel moving forward. Terrible customer experience.

Our Home Away from Home in Salem!…read more Whenever we visit our son, who attends Willamette University, we always stay at the Best Western Plus Mill Creek Inn! The location is incredibly convenient, the rooms are consistently clean, and the staff is always friendly and welcoming. The hotel has such a warm, homey atmosphere that makes every visit feel comfortable and relaxing. One of our favorite perks is the amazing coffee bar! We also love the breakfast vouchers for the Denny's right next door. You can choose a free breakfast that includes eggs, meat, hash browns, toast, and a drink, or use the voucher for $10 off anything on the menu. Such a fantastic bonus! We've stayed here multiple times and have never been disappointed. It truly feels like our home away from home whenever we're in Salem. We wouldn't stay anywhere else!

We sat with the door open and windows closed for about 90 minutes before leaving to have dinner, hoping it had cooled off. When we came back, it was even worse. We were starting to feel dizzy from the heat. I went down to the front desk and the staff member (didn't get her name, but she was very nice) had 1 room left, which we took - THANKFULLY the air worked in that room. However we had a downsized room (went from a king bed to a queen bed) and did not receive a discount for the experience. I will also note that the bed comforter had noticeable stains. When we went to shower, we almost pulled the knob out of the wall and had to hold it in place. There was also mold in the shower.

In advance of a required test of a fire alarm, the manager personally talked to customers to let us know what was going to happen. (I appreciated that management took safely seriously.) Desk was great, lots of room with a large additional rolling table for more space if needed. (I did move a lamp to the desk for more light) Mattress/pillows-5-Very comfortable bed, could have used a firm pillow to match the medium and soft ones; overall a great sleeping experience. Bathroom was large and the water was super hot. Elevator speed/availability-3-There are two elevators and only one was working, and it seemed to get stuck on floors occasionally. The good news is the stairs are right there and easy access. Gym/pool-5-I didn't use the pool(although many people were) but the gym was very good. The was a full compliment of dumbbells from 5-50 lb., a cable machine, bench, kettle bells, and cardio equipment. Restaurant-n/a none, but the free breakfast was very good. Staff-5-Front desk folks were really nice and helpful. No known benefit if you are a Diamond member which surprised me, I was told that because there is no on-site restaurant there were no a diamond perks...not sure what that means. Price-5- Very good pricing. Overall-5- I will definitely stay there again if I am in the area. Shout out-Raven at the front desk, really nice, hospitable, and answered all of my questions with a smile.

My room was far larger than expected, and was very well-equipped. In addition to all the standards (in-room refrigerator, microwave, etc.) was a white noise (and others) machine to assist with sleep (one minor gripe is that the sound isolation between rooms isn't terribly great), and a wall-mounted thermostat for the air conditioner and heat. One very thoughtful touch was two bottles of water, free of charge, already in my room upon arrival. Staff was incredibly helpful, professional, and friendly. My room was immaculate, and there were no signs of wear on anything nor neglected repairs. Complimentary breakfast was better than most. The mains also vary from day to day. There is a separate waffle station from the main hot dishes, and it features pastries that were far better than most, which was a really pleasant surprise. The covered parking garage is TIGHT, and is shared with the in-hotel restaurant (Bentley's), and the Salem Convention Center, so it can get crowded. There are two "Blink" EV charging stations, which is appreciated.

A big positive was the free EV charging -- I woke up to a full battery and continued my trip with no issues. Check‑in was friendly, and the warm cookie was a nice touch. The room itself was spacious with a couch, though oddly the couch doesn't face the TV. The end table was sticky and not cleaned properly, and I noticed a burn hole in the carpet near the bed. The carpet overall is showing its age and could use shampooing or replacement. They also charge $15 for a hotel type breakfast that would normally be free at other hotels which was disappointing. I skipped it and went to Elmer's down the street instead and had a much better meal for about the same price. Convenient location and great EV charging, but the noise, worn carpet, and cleanliness issues keep it from being a stronger stay.

We stayed here for two nights near the end of September while visiting family in the area…read more We usually stick with Hilton properties and like the Home2 Suites brand, but the Salem Home2 was considerably more expensive than the DoubleTree, so we decided to give this place a try. We booked ahead and checked in online, though we still had to stop at the front desk for keys. We're not quite ready to rely on the digital key in the Hilton app due to past experiences. The hotel is right off the Market Street exit in Salem. The area is fairly busy, and getting in and out of the parking lot--especially near the neighboring McDonald's--can be a little tricky if you need to turn left. Our room setup was somewhat similar to a Home2, though smaller, with just a mini fridge, microwave, and sofa seating. We were on the side facing I-5, so road noise was constant. It didn't bother us much--more like background white noise--but it was noticeable. The heating and cooling were controlled directly on the unit under the window, which is typical of older properties. Newer ones usually have wall-mounted thermostats. That said, the room itself looked recently remodeled and was generally comfortable. The only real negative was the desk chair, which had several tears exposing the cushion underneath and definitely needed replacing. We didn't use most of the hotel's amenities, but there is a breakfast area ($15 per person) and a small bar, neither of which looked busy when we passed by. The property also has an indoor pool and fitness area. Overall, this was an adequate and reasonably comfortable stay, and we were satisfied with our choice.
