They listened to our needs, assessed my husband's physical and medical status, and sent caregivers who helped us beyond measure. Every single caregiver was on time, friendly, and helpful in every possible way. We felt safe, cared for and supported in healing. The overnight caregivers allowed me to sleep and helped my husband with medications, bathroom needs and making sure he was safely in bed whenever he got up, or moved around. The daytime care was equally attentive, friendly and engaged with our needs without being invasive or hovering. I had used their services for my mom in March 2023 when she had discharged from the hospital and they were good for round the clock care for a week. I hired them again in June but it took 3 tries for anyone to call me to get serviced reactivated. Staff had told me that Kaitlin would contact me - never did. To be honest, I was desperate and need home care services asap until I could get my mom into an Assisted Living facility. The first couple of caregivers were fine. I had lined up caregivers round the clock. There was one instance where my mom had to go to the ER for shortness of breath and was released later that afternoon. I called Comfort Keepers to make sure that a caregiver was coming later that evening. When the night caregiver did not show, I called and they told me that the caregiver was canceled because my mom went to the ER. No one let me know. I was livid and upset. They did find a caregiver short notice. Then one of the caregivers failed to change all of my mom's undergarments even though it was clear that she had an accident. So he basically left my mom in a wet pad and I had to change her. I honestly wonder if the caregivers have the proper training to help older adults who have various health issues. I would NOT recommend them to use for any of your loved ones. If your loved one needs round the clock care, I would recommend looking into respite care at Assisted Living facilities. read more

Comfort Keepers was one of the agencies that were "recommended" to us by a social worker that was assigned by my parent's primary doctor. My parents are not on government assistance and don't qualify for Medical so private pay agencies are our only option. I called Comfort Keepers and to my surprise, they operate like a Western Dental. It sounds like you're forwarded to a call center overseas where English isn't the primary language. Every time I called I would get a different person. If your primary language isn't Tagalog or one of the other many languages from the Philippines, be prepared to deal with a ton of language barriers. I speak 3 languages(none from the Philippines) and I had to constantly repeat myself and they still didn't understand my questions that had to do with what they specialize in. Red flag number one. To start the process, a person from Comfort Keepers has to come to your home for an assessment, but I didn't make it that far because the person who I spoke to, and the one assigned to come to my home, quit on the same day she was scheduled to arrive. A woman with broken English from Comfort Keepers called and in her broken English stated they didn't have anyone to come at the scheduled time. This was done 90 minutes before our scheduled visit and they asked if I wanted to schedule for another date, to which I declined. This is what I learned...they charge approximately $40-$45 per hour of care. They pay their employees up to $21 per hour. Huge difference huh?! It's a business that has to pay licensing, insurance, binding, facilities, admin-related tasks, etc., so perhaps it's just, but if the employee isn't valued, then they'll have a huge turnover rate which is what's happening here and many other agencies I've called. Imagine hiring a caregiver for a loved one with Alzheimer's that doesn't do well with change only for them to quit. Maybe you're loved one has established a connection with their caregiver and now the agency sends someone else or no one at all because that person was treated like trash. The point is I don't trust Comfort Keepers for any type of care. Do yourself a favor if there's time to plan. Plan for unforeseen age-related care at least 5 years in advance, because that's when the government checks your financials. I can't say this enough. My parents did not because this was not a conversation they wanted to have AND they thought they would be independent until the end. This was not the case and trying to obtain care has been a nightmare. I haven't found anyone yet that doesn't sit around all day bragging about how accomplished they and their family are from the Philippines while sitting around doing nothing. I'm not paying someone so we can become besties, I'm paying someone for a service and Comfort Keepers isn't it. I can't stress this enough. Plan ahead. Plan ahead. Plan ahead. read more

I recently used them for my mom when she went on hospice. None of the family lived close enough, or had skills to be her caregiver. Comfort Keepers was soooo amazingly flexible with our needs and adjusted as my mom needed more care. The caregivers were extremely kind, patient, thorough, and handled her sooo well, even when she was grumpy. Comfort Keepers has left my wife and I hanging in the wind for two consecutive weeks . A 7:30 AM phone call and an offer to try and find a replacement were offered. This was unacceptable to us. We were to leave at nine. A replacement was not acceptable because I have to meet them and give the m instructions for my brother who has type one diabetes.I need to be able to rely on a person. Comfort Keepers provided quality care during the time they worked with my father. The company and associates were easy to work with. I felt comfortable in the level of experience the caregivers had with previous patients. During this time of my parents' lives, it was a relief to hand-off many of the duties that had fallen to me. The Living Room intranet message board they have is great to read the shift reports. I wish there was a way for me to easily see that the staff or caregiver had read my To-Do or messages. It starts with management and the Walnut Creek / Pleasant Hill office staff is not only professional but they care about their employees. Building a good relationship with office staff is so important to be able to provide great geriatric care for our clients. The person I spoke to on the phone was nice, but I never received the call-back to set up the ride. Good thing I had the sense to make other arrangements. NOT a company you can count on. Comfort Keepers has literally been a life saver for me. After my husband passed away, I had a stroke and then numerous complications thereafter. Comfort Keepers has been by my side ever since, providing services from helping me to shop to walking my dogs. In fact, one of the caregivers, who has since become a great friend, suggested that I consider fostering small dogs to keep me busy after it became apparent that I could not return to work. Upon talking with their care coordinator in Michigan, she seemed so sure they had care options and they would coordinate everything and make it easy for those of us as the POA. They cannot get us in for an assessment for several weeks, I figured this must have been because they were busy. What I eventually learned in the few months that we were attempting to get care for my father, was that they cannot keep people on staff and they frequently lie to their customers. The first lie came directly from someone who is supposed to be providing care for my father. She would say she was at the farm when actually she was not. They were two different recordings that show she was not there when she was clocked in. I was then billed for additional hours which made me mad. In addition, she lasted less than two weeks. Comfort keepers did not remove the charges. It appears they continue charging the office of Veterans Affairs even when care wasn't being received at our home. This also made me mad. The second caregiver was there for less than two weeks when she abruptly quit for personal reasons. After that they string us along for over a month saying they would get a new caregiver soon. In the meantime they continue charging the VA and we still had no caregiver. They hired a third one just this past week, where for her first shift she did not show up. It is a pathetic company all around. Do not waste Your time or let your loved one miss out. read more

I have had Comfort Keepers for a little over a year and a half. My granddaughter thought it was a good idea I had help at home. I couldn't have agreed more. I was blessed to have Ruth assigned to me and it was a perfect match. She is kind, funny, efficient, professional and very caring. She has become family as she spends 12 hours of her day with me five days a week. We enjoy going to Macys and lunch outings. Comfort keepers provided the most amazing service. My father-in-law's health was declining - and they came immediately. The staff were caring, professional and went above and beyond. Even as he was passing all his caregivers came to pay respects - without being asked or being paid !!! A rip off. Watson cl.recommeded this place told them to through away there bus. Cards and don't hand them out to patients they don't tell you the truth and some of their caregivers come and take a nap they get paid$10 an hour. While you pay $23 to CK. The refund takes for ever to get returned plus you don't get the interest which they owe you left mess with the owner no calls back very unhappy I will not recommend to anyone read more

On January 19th I had Erika, the Comfort Keeper's Barrie owner come to my home, from day one I experienced awful communication. Although, when it came to her coming to my home she was on time. She stated that everything was possible for the $200 a month I had available. She stated that would be 6 hours and I'd get that split bi-weekly on garbage weeks. I am 28 years old but I'm disabled and on ODSP. I experience severe pain with basic cleaning/ taking care of my home. She stated to start she'd have 2 people come for the price of one to help get started as I have my landlords come mid-late february to do a yearly check, I've been unable to keep up with cleaning yet she was confident that there would be no issues to get things done. She stated that she'd call me mid-week to confirm I was able to get the funds and to confirm the date. She did not call me/ text me. By Friday I called, the receptionist said at first she wasn't in the office then stated she was in a meeting but regardless would contact me within 2 hours... I had to start work and worked late till that Friday. Finally on Sunday morning I called ( thinking it was Monday ) and the work number goes to her cell when the business is closed. She stated that there were some issues finding someone willing to do some of the things required. I asked what those things were and she mainly stated the cat litter. I told her I didn't expect anyone to do it but she offered. I stated I'd be okay with doing it, I just needed assistance moving it due to the weight. She said she'd go back over her roster and contact me and if I didn't hear from her by late Monday to call. I called at 4:30 on Monday she stated she had yet to find someone still but was trying to see if she could get herself and the General Manager ( her husband ) to come in instead since they lacked the staff. She said she'd contact me by 5:30-6pm after she spoke with her husband. I was done work at 7:45 and had yet to hear from her. I called, no answer. I then called the day they were supposed to show up January 29th 2019 ( today ) I have called 3 times, they didn't pick up, so I called the toll free number. Which was the Toronto Office. They said they'd transfer me. They called and transferred me giving my name, as soon as I said hello as no one said anything they hung up on me. I then called the Toronto office yet again, they then tried calling them again and she stated there was no answer and stated she'd contact Erika personally and give her my information. Erika emailed me stating that the state of my house for the price I wanted was not possible and that the cat litter and ammonia was too much even though I stated that it didn't have to be done, she tried telling me I was asking for far too much for too little of a price tag. I stated that she's the one that offered and stated to me that was completely possible to get done the day she had come to my house and went on a tour of it... She tried to make it seem like I was unreasonable when I'm a very easy going person. And I stated in the email that I knew it was too much and that I didn't expect it but I needed to help to get things started and that 3 rooms were first priority and that I needed to get the shower clean so that grab bars could be installed as I need them to take a shower and she knew I was waiting on them to come so I could get them installed. I stated that I understood that she over promised and that I was easy going and willing to work something out and that it was a mistake she made and that I'm okay with trying to work something out as I need the help badly and I'm willing to forget what she has put me through to just move on and get things started.. She then emailed me back after accusing me over over asking stating that it wasn't possible for her to assist me and to look up another company.. It's now 1pm which is when they were supposed to show up and I feel defeated and annoyed because my home is a disaster and so far me trying to get assistance due to my pain has been more of a rough effort and me continuously trying to communicate and not hearing anything back. Beyond defeated and irritated due to her essentially stating that I asked for far too much and offered to pay so little when she's the one that offered me that deal to help me get things started and now I have to find someone else with barely any time to spare... If you are in Barrie or surrounding area DO NOT DEAL WITH COMFORT KEEPERS FROM BARRIE as long as Erika is the owner she won't know how to delegate or communicate and if I have this much issue as a 28 year old, I feel bad for how they'd treat a senior who may not be so conscious of what's going on... It's not worth the time or money to deal with, find another company if you are in the Barrie, Ontario, Canada area! Stephanie read more
