There is an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, a kids play area, a beach, and many trails. We stayed in the lodge. The room was large. We were picking up my son from camp and I though we would have to share a room, but it was large enough that we ran out and bought a cheap air mattress so he could have his own bed. There are cabins on the property, a supper club, and a coffee bar, but we did not try any of those. The resort was quite busy. There were groups of all ages. While our room was large, the bathroom was very dated and in need of a renovation. There was a binder highlighting aspects of the lodge, but some of the pages had mold growing on them. I thought there was daily room cleaning, but our room was never touched. Perhaps I missed something. Definitely a place to check out if you are looking for lodging in the area.

Although there are a lot of stains and some visible aging, they keep the place pretty clean. I liked having a balcony with a welcoming small town view, everything in my room worked. There's a little bar which stays open as long as there are customers (never more than 5) and is also where the pretty good breakfast is offered up. Adequate parking, safe location, walking distance from the library, the courthouse, a supermarket, a bookstore, and some good restaurants. I think this is a better choice than the motels closer to the highway. I appreciated the costume jewelry and knickknacks for sale in the lobby.

Hallways are half painted and dirty with random furniture haphazardly placed in odd places. The worst part was what used to be a fabulous restaurant, now the spot to grab free breakfast - if you dare. Filthy serving area, food was not replenished and coffee was cold, tables were not wiped down and staff was rude. What was once the best hotel in Rhinelander is arguably now the worst - for $195 a night. Terrible.

Not to mention hilarious! All three cottages are warm, cheerful and charming and located below the main lodge/bar/hotel on the shores of pristine Clear Lake. Swimming and fishing is the best you could ask for on this immaculate, private-owned gem. In addition to the cottage rentals they have 6 hotel rooms. Each room is uniquely decorated in "northwoods" style (loons, white-tail deer, fish). If you are a CLEAN-FREAK this is the place for you! Absolutely spotless. At the time of my last visit in 2007, 5 of the 6 units were still 2-room "suites" with kitchenette's. Perfect for small families or couples (sigh...wonderful memories). Their Beachcomber Lounge is a local favorite. It entertains both pool and dart tournaments and offers some of the best home-cooked food in the area. Steve makes and proudly serves the best cheese-cake EVER! Come for the "local flavor", joke-of-the-day, fish tales and just downright good fun. We stayed in a two-queen bed suite with a separate sitting area & TV. What drew us to Cobblestone in particular is that they are dog-friendly, but you never guess that was the case by how clean and tidy the lobby, elevator, hallways, and rooms are. The beds were very comfortable, with four pillows on each bed and it was great that they had signage stating that the pillows in front were "soft" and the pillows in back were "firm." My only critique would be to have more than one person working the check-in area on a holiday weekend, as it did take quite a long time to check in with only one person manning the counter.
