My wife and I booked a room through Expedia at the Hampton Inn in Conyers, Georgia (1340 Dogwood…read moreDrive) to attend the Bill Pickett rodeo. We checked in at approximately 1:30 PM and immediately left for the event. Upon returning at approximately 9:00 PM, we found that the air conditioning in our initial room was malfunctioning and the room was extremely hot. I notified the front desk clerk, Pebo, who reassigned us to room 105. When we moved into room 105, my wife immediately discovered an insect inside the hotel refrigerator enclosure. I took a photograph of the insect and utilized Gemini AI, which indicated the characteristics strongly matched those of a bed bug. What do you think? https://share.gemini.google/3uTVlMPzpPrF Due to the broken air conditioning in the first room and the presence of insects in the second room, we felt unsafe and uncomfortable staying at the property. The front desk clerk, Pebo, agreed to a refund and requested that I text him the photograph and the AI analysis, which I did. He then placed me on a FaceTime call with his supervisor, who also agreed that a refund was warranted and advised me to contact Expedia to initiate the process, as well as the general manager, Michael Davidson. The following day, I contacted Expedia to initiate the refund. I also spoke with the general manager, Michael Davidson. Mr. Davidson refused to authorize the refund, was extremely rude, and claimed that a pest control professional had evaluated the room and determined the insect was not a bed bug. When I informed him that I intended to escalate the matter, he refused to cooperate. He asked me, " Who are you going to report me to???" I have since learned the hotel is a family-owned franchise, and they have a pattern of treating guests this way. Read the comments.

Incidents: When I first got there, no one was at the front desk. A guest in the lobby told me that the staff was sitting "in the back". I started walking to the back, when about 4 people looked at me walking towards them for awhile before someone got up and asked me, "Are you checking in?". Note: The person who checked me in was really nice and helpful, despite. The 2nd night I was there, I saw two roaches in my room. I told a lady on the cleaning crew and the person who checked me out the next day. They apologized. After my stay, a few days went by and I realized that I didn't get a survey. I wanted to complete the survey giving accolades to the gentleman that checked me in, but I was never sent the survey (could be a coincidence, but my thought is it was intentional). I contacted the local hotel and the corporate office and was apologized to again and told that someone would contact me with 3-5 days.... it's been about 3 weeks.

This hotel was near the function we were having. We had a smooth check-in; our room was clean and the staff was nice. The breakfast was typical (sausage, some form of eggs, pastries, fruit, yogurt, instant grits, oatmeal, cereal, etc.). I appreciate that "healthier" options include turkey sausage and (pre-made) egg-white omelets. Note, my favorite breakfast item though was the "breadless" quiche. The staff member responsible for managing the breakfast was pleasant as well. I enjoyed the exercise room and am always happy to see when rooms have recyclable bins. Even though we ran into a bit of an issue, management made it right, which was very appreciative and a sign of great customer service. I will certainly plan to stay at this hotel again when back in the area!

The only silver lining in the dark cloud over this property were the front desk reps who were helpful and the wonderful lady who worked in the breakfast area.

We stayed at this avid IHG Hotel in Conyers, GA. It was our first time in an avid. We chose it…read morebecause it is pet-friendly, the pet fee is reasonable at $10 per night with a supposed refundable $50 deposit. And of course, because most of the ratings and comments were favorable on other sites and some on the Yelp site. The room is small, but big enough for two adults and a 50 lb dog. The KS bed was comfortable and not super high like most hotels. We appreciate the lower height. The room has an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, safe and mini fridge. I like the efficient storage space for these items. The room and bedding was clean, except I would say they could do a better job on the bathroom floor. The water was hot and they provide everything you need: body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash and lotion (all Dove products). The parking lot is large and clean. They provide a nice, mowed down grassy area to walk your dog. Not all people are considerate enough to pick up their own dog's poop, but it wasn't awful. The breakfast was basic, but good. We had an issue getting our $50 pet deposit refunded when checking out. The person at the desk said it is a fee not a deposit. That is not what we read on the website nor what the person at the desk said when we checked in. So, instead of a long back and forth, we left. I called Guest Services from the car, explained the situation and yes, the $50 deposit is refundable. Just be aware of that. Otherwise, we would stay here again.
