I have only twice in my many years of travelling, given up on a booking accommodation and walked away. Last night was that 2nd time.
The Clare Central Comfort Inn has recently changed hands, but there is no excuse for the lack of services in the motel rooms.
According to its own website and that of the online booking service we used, the Twin Room was supposed to have a DVD, an IPod docking station and air conditioning. Nothing too above expectations for a 3 star motel room I would have thought.
What the rooms actually offered fell well short. There are apparently "no DVDs" on the property, no iPod docking stations, and the air conditioning didn't even look like starting up after 30 minutes of being turned on. The phones aren't even connected to the reception, let alone providing access to an outside line, so I was forced to walk down to reception to raise my concerns. I was told that no one ever wants to use the phones, and if I really needed to I could use the phone at reception. When someone was sent to look at the air-con, it was immediately clear he was no maintenance man. He played with the control panel on the wall for a minute and said it would come on slowly over the next 1/2 hour or so. Yeah, right... The hotel offered to get us a DVDs player, but we gave up and chose to drive the 2 hours back to Adelaide rather than stay one more minute. The new owners claim they had no idea what was on their own website, and that the services we were asking for aren't normally required by guests anyway. Goodness me. The motel did agree to the refund. I recommend people stay elsewhere in Clare. It's such a beautiful little town, we will be returning to stay hopefully somewhere better than here. read more
