Good food here. We were in the area to check out some local wineries, deciding to stop in for lunch. The staff were friendly and solicitous, the food served hot and quite tasty. From my chicken, to the beef, chicken pie and ham steaks for others, all was well and enjoyed. A nice stop! read more

I don't know if it is because it is a wine growing region, or whether it is just that people don't come up here to visit the pubs, but this pub well, while it was nice, and the service was good, just basically felt like your typical country pub. Yeah, it had some charm about it, and it did seem to be reasonably popular, but in another sense, there just didn't seem to be that touristy charm about it. I guess that probably had something to do with the rather boring selection of beers that they had on tap, which while I do tend to forgive some pubs for having, this one really wasn't one of them. Who do these people think they are??? Came in with friends for a birthday party, the place is old fashioned with no new decor, shiny acrylic painted walls, small gaming room, large sports bar and a dinky dinning room. The food was very nice, cheap; which is why we came in as a group much better than what I've experienced in the area. We were looking to have full bellies and plenary of left over cash to spend of frivolity. However the staff were very very rude, accept the young girl than brought the food out. She we the first employee i saw smiling, what a gem. Racheal as I read on her name tag was very cold, no real spark of personality, no real service offered. Would leave the bar as people arrived to order on multiple occasions to chat to another staff member increasing the waiting time for service. Charge me too much with a poor excuse and no refund. Then Jennifer around 8:50pm telling people to leave because it was too cold. Also complaining about another staff member in front of customers to other staff members than had knocked off. Sorry guys this is not normal. Really should be looked in to. I went to seed the night before, complete opposite experience. I was greeted when I arrived, asked firstly about my day and what had brought me to seed. It was it fact my friends birthday and a few cheeky beverages were in order. Not just tap beer for this one for it is the big 25. Now if you have not been to seed, seed is a gin bar, restaurant, cocktail lounge in a renovated chaff mill with stylish decor, riedel glasses, impressive creative menus with so many in house made ingredients. Everything in the place has a reason to be there, all the way down the to linen hand towels and aromatic hand wash and hand balm. I spent less at seed the night before, this evenings experience makes me regret spending any money here at all. Just because we don't have much choice in Clare does not mean you should stoop this low. read more

Clare is a sleepy little town full of vibrant young wines. This hotel leans with the former. The menu offers low priced but scary items (seriously, middle pub steak?); I don't think it has been changed since opening. the wine list is competent but hard to find something worthy of the area. It is a well appreciated pokies and diner by the locals, so useful for a quick drink. But if you respect your arteries and girth, you may want to stay away from the menu. read more
