I stayed here for 5 days for a Bank Holiday break recently and, overall, had a nice stay.
It's a small hotel, despite being part of a chain. It has an enviable location, just off the shopping hub of Wittenbergplatz, and a few minutes from the U-bahn station which has services on lines U1, U2 and U3. It's also just a short walk from the famous KaDeWe department store (Berlin's impressive equivalent of Harrods or Selfridges).
The ground floor is given over to shops, so the entrance is literally just a door. The reception is on the first floor, and on the way up you encounter the first oddity: in this converted apartment block, the lift calls at the landings so you either have to walk up or down one floor - but there is a short walk up the stairs to get to the lift.
Rooms are generally spacious, with high ceilings and generous windows, and decorated in a rather domestic, slightly old-fashioned style. My room was at the rear, at the end of a corridor, and very quiet, The corridors have squeaky floorboards, though, so it may not be the place for you if that might disturb you at night. The bed was very comfortable, but wardrobe space was a little limited and there is no fridge in the room. the shower room was basic but adequate.
There's very limited room service and desk service - one night on my visit there wasn't a concierge after 11pm so I was advised to take my key with me if I went out. Wifi is free, but also a bit odd - it sometimes logs you out after a short length of time, and the web protection blocks and odd range of sites. But breakfast (served until 11am) is a modest 9 Euros and consists of a buffet with the usual cereals, toast, eggs, cheeses, sausages, fruit, juices, cakes and a small selection of salad.
Staff were pleasant and helpful, and sorted out a glitch on my departure (my bill had had taxes added to it, despite the fact they were included in the package). read more
