    I am writing to formally express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the lack of care,…read morecompassion, and understanding I have received from the Financial Assistance Department. I recently sought assistance for medical bills related to my delivery and my newborn daughter's NICU stay in July 2024. Due to ongoing billing issues, these charges were not finalized or reflected on my account until much later. As a result, I submitted my financial assistance application in September 2025, as soon as I became aware of the finalized balances. However, I was informed that coverage would only apply from September 26, 2024, through September 26, 2025, and that the department is unwilling to backdate the assistance to cover the period when the actual services occurred. I was also told that backdating is only allowed by a few days in limited circumstances. This decision feels unfair and inconsistent with the intent of financial assistance programs designed to support patients facing unexpected and significant medical expenses. At the time of my child's birth, I had no way of knowing the final amount I would be billed or that I would require financial assistance. I find it unreasonable that the department is unwilling to consider the delays caused by internal billing issues, which were completely outside of my control. Additionally, after numerous emails, phone calls, and conversations with both the billing and financial assistance departments, it has become clear that there is a serious lack of communication and coordination between the two. Both departments appear to misunderstand or be unaware of each other's internal processes, resulting in confusion and frustration for patients like myself. I am fully prepared and experienced to write a detailed review regarding the operations of these departments if this issue is not appropriately resolved. Unless this matter is reconsidered and handled fairly, I intend to contact the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to file a formal complaint regarding the administration and fairness of your financial assistance program. I respectfully request a prompt review of my case and a written response addressing this issue.
