Hands down the worst financial institution I have ever dealt with - from day one about a year and a half ago. Run don't walk!

While I lived in North County San Diego, I had nothing but good things to say about California Coast. But things have taken a 180 since I moved out of state and what happened today is the prime reason why. I called to find out whether a check had cleared. After a shortish wait, I spoke to an attendant who could not verify my number because it wasn't accepted by some Experian system they recently starting using to verify numbers. This despite the fact that I've had the same cell number for more than 20 years and have used the same phone to check my balance several times. So then I had to talk to a manager. Of course I want to get this number thing fixed so I don't have to go through a manager every time I want information about my account. The manager tells me there is no way to fix this issue. None. And that every time I call in the future I'll have to go through someone in management to retrieve the information I want. He said that there was no way it could be any other way. Period. I have the feeling that this is more about forcing people to use California Coast's online banking, which is much more susceptible to hacking, than any new telephone tracing system they have. What a pain in the butt.

He was kind, professional and clear in communication PLUS he followed up with a phone call. I also met with a teller and they were very friendly and helpful as well. Lastly, I was able to have a document notarized and that associate was also kind, professional, and clear in communication. Honestly, I was impressed. It's been a looong time since I've been treated that well by so many employees at a bank.

I went in to convert some money in savings paying .1% interest to a CD, and the manager highly recommended that I speak to a personal banker and promised that she would email me the next day. 2 months later I went to the branch to wire money and also spoke with the manager because I never got that call. I spoke with the new manager and was told that the manager I spoke with moved to another branch. The new lady promised to put me in touch with the banker the next day. The same thing happened and nobody had reached out. I feel like they do not want me to make wise investments and prefer to keep my money in cash to pad their reserves since they are not paying interest on it. In addition I was qualified for some premium account with upgraded benefits and nobody had ever brought this up to me. I am not sure if these people are devious or just stupid.

After I found my vehicle a week later, the bank suddenly claimed their "internal percentages" had changed my rate would now be 4.5%. I felt cornered and went ahead with the loan. Nearly four years later, with my loan almost paid off, I moved and filed a change of address with USPS. My June payment was made, but I missed July's payment. By August 5th, SDCCU had frozen my checking account where my direct deposit funds were still coming in, but I couldn't access or transfer any money, even to pay the car note linked to the same account. I tried calling multiple times but was kept on hold endlessly. I assumed it was a system glitch. A few days later, I walked outside and my car was gone. After calling 911, I was told it had been repossessed with no notice, no calls, no warning. After four years of on-time payments, SDCCU repossessed my car over one missed month. When I went to the branch in shock, my account was still frozen. The branch manager only unfroze it after I paid over $600 in repossession fees, plus the missed payment. The bank has refused to provide a copy of default notices sent or itemized statement of fees. They cannot provide this because I was only one month behind. To make matters worse, the tow company damaged my vehicle so badly that it became undrivable. I had the dealership repair it and sent the invoice to SDCCU only to discover that SDCCU owns the same recovery company responsible for the damage. When I contacted the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, SDCCU denied all responsibility. SDCCU is not a trustworthy institution. Their lack of transparency, unethical lending changes, and predatory repossession tactics show how little they value their customers even long-term members in good standing.
