If I could rate zero stars I would. Comerica Bank engages in wholly unethical and illegal hiring practices. I received an offer of employment as a VP level Governance Manager by Comerica on 9/8/2025. What has transpired since has been absolutely devastating to me.
The HR contact (Stacia McCloskey) whom I dealt with primarily never asked me to apply online to the role. She offered me the role on 9/8 and then asked me to apply online, at which point I would disclose any disability.
I have an ADA protected auto immune arthritis disability, and not only did I immediately disclose this to Ms. McCloskey, I sent her two accommodation requests from my primary care providers. She never addressed this email at any point.
Then, I completed the background check application. I've worked in Legal and Governance for 25 years for Fortune 100 and 500 companies, and my education dates back to 1998. I've successfully cleared robust FBI background checks over the last 25 years.
On 9/15, with no advance warning, a Debra Jefferson (no working Comerica phone number) called me and accused me of lying about my educational background which is now 30 years old.
I was admittedly caught off guard and immediately sent Comerica my educational documents as well as Business Information Group (their preferred background check vendor).
They clearly don't do authentic FBI checks because my international job didn't appear on their report which I requested to review.
BIG indicated that they were never requested to verify my BA diploma by Comerica and that their file was marked as closed.
After I disclosed my ADA disability, I was not supported in the onboarding process at all.
This is clear illegal and unethical bias towards a candidate with a verified and disclosed ADA disability. I repeatedly submitted my educational documentation and all subsequent communication attempts were ignored.
I've filed complaints with the EEOC, CFPB, the FTC, and the BBB. I'm seeking penalties, the least of which are lost wages. I've cleared every background check I've ever gone through in a decades long career in Legal.
There is a clear hiring bias against applicants with disabilities. read more
