Fish tacos

Have always walked past this place and finally got a chance to try this evening! Walked in and immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. Fun lights, Mexican music, lots of people. There were no tables open so we decided to sit at the open bar at the outdoor patio. Very cute lighting and decorations. Our server had great recommendations. We got the fish tacos, chicken tamale, and tlayuda to share between two people. Fish tacos: Great dish to start with! We each had one and we put the pickled jalapeños and carrots that came with them on top for an added kick. Had the perfect ratio of wood grilled cod to spicy pickled cabbage to avocado aioli in each bite. Chicken tamale: The mole negro sauce was FIRE. Really unique flavor and loved the texture of the masa. Good amount of rotisserie chicken too. Tlayuda: THIS WAS THE STAR OF THE SHOW. If you don't get anything else get this dish. Never had anything like it before. Like a pizza but with black bean puree instead of tomato sauce. The crispy Brussels sprouts on top were sooo yummy too. This was also very filling, we had to box the other half. Great dish to share. Overall, had a great experience and loved trying two dishes for the first time!

Visited this place with my friend after a bad experience at a wine spot. We just walked and found it while looking for another wine spot. This place is very cute. I loved the employee that greeted us, her hair, her glasses and her overall look. It was very chic. She was very warm and welcoming. She slay provided nice small talk. They have a Happy Hour that begins at 4 pm, but we were too early. We both decided on an alcoholic drink. I can't remember the drink, but the menu had the liquor that we ordered as an option for the same drink. I had mezcal in mine and she had white rum. We also ordered 1 order of church's (3 for $10). Church's were made fresh. They came out nice and hot. Our drinks were so so so delicious. Very smooth blend. The seating is cute too. Oh.. they do have outside seating as well. The music was a great feature. We will most definitely be back to try the food options and have more drinks. This might become one of OUR spots!!

The food needed salt. The quality was great, but unsalted food is just unacceptable, especially when there isn't any on the table. Service was solid and ambiance was nice however.

We were really excited to try Comal after it was recommended highly but our experience was pretty underwhelming and sort of mid. We started with margaritas and chips and salsa which were okay. Not very deep in flavors, chips were really crunchy though! Margaritas were very nice and came out quick! We also got the papas fritas which were really disappointing. The essentially fries were really soggy and greasy. Me and my partner both got tacos, one fish and one pork. Both were really bland. The fish seemed to be a little too peppery for us but the tacos didn't really have any distinguishing flavors that stood out it was pretty bland. We were disappointed most that our tacos were very wet making it hard to pick up the taco. The tacos took also took quite a while to come out so we weren't really hungry by the time the tacos came out because it took over thirty minutes to come out. The server was kind but at the end when we had leftovers on the table didn't even bother to offer a box and was about to clear our table. Overall I'd say it was okay, food wasn't bad but it wasn't special or particularly good either.

Pork shoulder for 2 that includes: grilled corn, rice and beans with corn tortillas.

Didn't realize this was a Michelin rated restaurant until after the fact, however I could see why as the food and drinks were excellent. The fresh tortilla chips with the 3 sauces are addictive--so be forewarned and save room for dinner. Had the pork shoulder for 2 = super delish and tasty. All about the sauces! Grilled corn was a treat as well. Good value for the money--can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Oh, drinks and wine superb as well. Bonus: included is sparkling or still water!!!

I got the spareribs with beans, 5/5!

Food has good flavor and seasoning, drinks are balanced, ambiance is perfect for date night. Service was quick and attentive!

The tequila and mescal list from Comal. Sorry about the phone shadow.

The atmosphere in Comal is comfortable and not overdone. Lot's of medium tone wood. There is an outdoor seating area but we were there on a rainy night so stayed inside. We tried the cod and sweet potato tacos. Both were delicious. We also had the guacamole for a starter again very tasty. The star may have been the flan. One of the creamiest I've ever had. Extensive list of tequila and mescal. The biggest I've ever seen. Had two delightful servers who didn't rush us but made sure we had what we needed. I'll definitely be back.

Menu has been dumbed down. Food is mediocre now (used to be upscale Mexican fare.) I won't be back.

Ask the Community - Comal

Are small dogs allowed in the outdoor beer garden?

We only allow service animals on our patio.

Is outdoor dining open right now?

Yes - our patio is open!

Do they have outdoor seating?

Yes, we have a covered outdoor patio!

Can I bring my own dessert? If so, what is the fee...is it a flat rate or per person?

You can for a birthday or special occasion as long as you're purchasing dinner or lunch

Is there a corkage fee?

I'm going to say yes--this place adds an automatic 20% tip to your bill--that includes bar only bills. I'd be totally shocked if they didn't have a corkage fee.

The sauce was a simple garlic creme sauce with a touch of lemon, cilantro , onions and chili, but was not hot. The shrimp with garlic sauce was served with baby carrots and green rice. I hope they will make this a staple on their menu. It could easily be their signature dish. Cafe de Olla -had a splash of milk added, but normally it comes black. The coffee had a nice sweetness and you don't need to add sugar. PIPIAN TACOS Rotisserie Chicken or Pork Shoulder, Oaxacan Brown Mole Sauce with Red Chiles, Onion-Jalapeño Curtido If you like spicy , you will love this dish. The meat was covered with a spicy chil sauce that was absolutely delicious, but HOT. Interestingly, the dish had a small bowl of mole sauce that was not spicy and was a delicious dipping sauce for the taco. However the person who ordered this dish said she would ask to see if she could order the rotisserie chicken without the spicy sauce. She asked did ask for sour cream to tone down the heat. She thought the meat was very delicious, just too hot.

The space is beautifully designed, especially the extended dining area, and the staff operates with an impressive level of efficiency and expertise. Everything just felt more noticeable this time around, in the best way. We also had the pleasure of chatting with who I believe was a manager, who was incredibly kind and helpful in answering our questions. That extra level of hospitality really elevated the experience and left a lasting impression. P.S. The blue corn pancakes are amazing! BB

It was so large that I could make it last for 2 lunches. I get it this week (with chicken this time) and the bowl is a lot lighter, now with shredded cabbage and radishes to fill up the bowl and a lot less rice and beans and a bit less protein, with everything separated in the bowl instead of piled one top of one another. It will definitely not be enough for 2 lunches and is the same price as the last 2 times. I came here instead of Chipotle because it is a local business and the flavors are better. I am not sure I'll be getting a bowl here again, unless they go back to their original formula. Bummer.

I called them and they asked me to come back for a replacement. It took about five minutes, and they were very kind about it. They also gave me an agua fresca to make up for the short wait, which I really appreciated. Mistakes can happen anywhere, and what matters is how they're handled here...they take care of you. Many thanks for the quick repair.

So they hate disabled people too. Like that's literally a violation of the ADA, to demand someone take off their mask because you can't hear them because your music is too loud. Placed an order for pick up and the DoorDash app said it was time to go inside and pick up our order so we did. The staff inside had the music blaring so loudly that my friend had to take off her respirator and she's immuno compromised just so they could hear her. These are ableist jerks. On top of that when it was trying to pick up the order in the DoorDash app, my friend walked into the restaurant to pick up our order physically and they said it wasn't ready yet. Now it's running 20 minutes behind schedule. I will never give these people my business or time again, I will warn every disabled and Covid conscious and chronically ill person to not go there because they won't turn down the music and they'll pretend not to hear you if you're wearing a full face mask. The horrible timing is just not worth it.
