Today I bought a lamb leg and shoulder from Columbia Haram meat. It was expired and smelled terrible when opened it. I thought it might get better when it's cooked but it gotten worse. My whole place smells like bad meat smell. I called to complain and the manager or owner kept listening. He didn't even apologize. I told them that I shop from them all the time. Why or how would sell bad meat like that. Like people won't find out! Best way to lose costumer and likely they don't follow FDA AND OSHA regulations. That got to be reported. read more

A good place to get fresh halal meats. It's always ready whenever I pre-order over the phone. The lady at the front counter is very friendly and the store has a good selection of items. I love this place. I have yet to find a place where I can get big bags of lentils so cheap (this place even beats the pants off of Amazon's prices). Generally, I've come here for pantry staples: lentils, specialty spices, pickles, chutneys, rose water, etc. They carry a few fresh items like cilantro and jalapeños, but this is not a one stop shop if you want fresh produce. There are also some other frozen goods. I've never bought meat here, but based on the other reviews, this is the place to go if I want a good cut of lamb or goat (awesome!). This place is very bad! Never buy meat from them. They over charged never give you refund and argue with customers. They have basic hygiene issue, bad smell and county's health code issues. As the name promises, Columbia Halal's claim to fame is the small halal butcher in the back. Obviously, the meat is crucial for Muslims who follow the religious rules. But it's an asset for anyone who wants to step outside the supermarket meat section. First, Columbia Halal sells cuts -- like whole lamb shoulders and whole goats -- that you can't just pick up in a plastic tray. Second, the butchers at Columbia Halal handle your order personally. They're running a bandsaw right in view, and they'll cut your order however you want. Clearly, not the spot for vegetarians (although I did see Mango Grove restaurant flyers next to the cash registers). But it's a resource for people who want that special attention. I bought a lamb shoulder. Initially, I couldn't find the "shoulder" on their list of cuts. I'm such a child of the supermarkets that the butcher had to point out that "leg" and "shoulder" mean the same thing on a sheep. It's not like sheep have arms. Overall, it's a nice store. A good resources for the basic Indian ingredients if you live near Rte 108. The butchers let me stand around for a while probably because I didn't look their regular customers, but they were happy to help once I explained what I needed. They sell chicken, beef, goat and lamb. Next time, I need to ask if they grind their own beef in the store. My husband and I always get a whole lamb at this store and pay over $200 for it. Two days ago we went to get a lamb 29 pounds and cooked it today. The meat was horrible, old, very stiff I can't even explain it to you that I had to get rid over a whole lamb that's how bad the meat was. You couldn't even eat it it's like we ate something that was very very old.. so disappointed of buying meat there for such a long time and this happening!! Will never buy again for sure! read more

I used to shop in this place because its very close to my home. I was never a big fan of this store, but kept going until last week and I decided not to go anymore. The guy who cuts the meat is very rude and even yells at you if he can't understand what you say. I have encountered this behavior few times and I just let it go. Last time I complained to the owner and he was defending him.This shows the way they run the business. They think there is no other stores in this area that sells indian grocery and meat. The meat is usually fresh and you can find spices, dhals and roti`s. The guy at the counter is super rude and doesn't speak to the customers. I once held the door opened for him and he snared at me. This place is aite. I likes it. Why? Well because their store is usually fresh and they relatively have what I need and when I need it. That's key; to be able to have the foresight of what the customer needs before they even arrive. I especially love how they beat the meat until it's tender so that I don't have to go home and beat my meat further. Also there is no need to worry about staying hard all day. This is important; meat doesn't taste good if it stays hard for an extended period of time. All in all its a great store and they got a few vegetables and curry powders ... It's a small Pakistani grocery store. They have good chicken and veg samosas, wouldn't swear on the other deep fried snacks. Small section of vegetables. The chicken from butcher is good, but for some reason he doesn't cut fresh, instead gives you a precut prepackaged chicken. What's the point of going to a halal store if you don't cut fresh chicken. I could as well go to walmart/wegmans. Please change this and you would get a better rating. read more

I was over joyed to find this halal meat place. But the only reason i stopped going there is because the guys on the counter are plain rude. I have never seen them smile or be little courteous. The main butcher himself isn't helpful at all. He is the one you will be talking about meat to so note this. I asked him to show me a cut and he brings back a piece almost brown from being stale. I requested him to get a fresher one which he refused to do. Consequent visits and was never happy with my meat purchase. Not impressed at all. read more
