First review I've written, I had to write a review because this place was just so lovely! Harold is one of the kindest and most knowledgeable people I have met. I thought I was going there to pick up a bonsai but I ended up spending about 4 hours looking at all of the incredible varieties he has. Ask him anything, he is the master! Would recommend to anyone in the world. A+++ (Prices are also INCREDIBLE.)

I do stop by from time-to-time, though. It dates back to 1959, so hitting 67 years now in 2026. They offer a comprehensive collection of trees and shrubs; fruit trees and shrubs; rose bushes; perennial flowers and grasses; annual flowers; container gardens/hanging baskets; vegetables; herbs; indoor plants and tropicals; seeds and bulbs; fertilizers; mulches; pots; planters; weed, pest, and animal control; gardening products and tools; garden decor; bird feeding; home decor and gifts; and holiday decorations. Services include delivery, planting, and a team of plant doctors expert in identification, disease, and pests. The Web site is, unfortunately, very dated and only formatted for a large-screen device. It does not contain a full stock inventory, but only general information. This facility is large, well-stocked and well-organized. There's a very nice parking lot with lots of room. The staff is helpful. I would say, after some comparative shopping, that the prices are generally very high.

The man at checkout was very kind as were the employees we saw throughout the nursery. I'd love to come back in early summer to check out their vegetables. One note: I did notice a large amount of fungus gnats everywhere. Eww.

For those needing some fast color, there are always huge hanging baskets of blooming beauty ready to go home with you, and his prices are quite reasonable. Guys, take note: these are flowers you can surprise your special someone with that will continue to bloom for months - that's a lot of return on a sweet surprise gift. Every year, he brings the staples that we all know and love, but he also does something special or different that gives you something to look forward to as well. Kerry is a plant guy who knows all the common and Latin names and anything else you want to know because he really loves what he does. All his plants are healthy and vigorous, and you can always get help finding stuff. Everyone goes shopping there as soon as you can get your plants in the ground (or, as we do, shuffle them into the house at night when temps are not quite ready, but that way we don't have to wait until mid-May). They will never disappoint you, and it's like a community picnic. I like to bring a couple of boxes of popsicles or iced tea for the crew on hot days, and it's just the best feeling to share the fresh beauty under the Boulder sun.

I wanted to add some interest so that I wouldn't have just rock everywhere, but this south side of the house has no drip line. Perhaps some cacti and other southwestern plants would be appropriate? I made my way down to the local nursery and found this cute potato cactus. Rather than the typical plastic stick with planting instructions, the plastic stick found in the little plant casing said www.coldhardycactus.com. I went to this website to see how to plant and care for this cutie, and lo and behold--an entire cactus website run out of a location right down the road in Lakewood, Colorado! They sell quite a variety of cacti, yucca, agave, all the southwestern plants you might find in a desert environment, carefully studied and developed to be cold hardy for Colorado. I promptly scheduled an in-person tour of the plants, which you can do online. When I arrived, Kelly, a horticulturalist, showed me around the yard and greenhouses and told me about all the plants that he grows. He knows absolutely everything about them, and loves to convey his knowledge about their origination, hybridizations, and ability to withstand our environs in planting zones 4, 5, 6, etc. My house resides in zone 5. Based on Kelly's guidance and my own taste in plants, I walked away with a combination of cacti and succulents; from your traditional spiny cacti to beautiful flowering gentle varieties with smoother paddles. With my brown thumb, and the little 1.5-2" pots, I was wary about their outcome. However, you can see below the pictures that I took in May, 2025. They survived beautifully, and in fact are thriving! I have to admit that the succulents did not make it through the winter. I suspect I did not provide enough water for them after planting, or maybe the site just isn't right, but I couldn't be more happy and proud of the many cacti that are happy in my yard. In one year, some have at least doubled in size! I recently paid Kelly another visit this fall, and purchased some yuccas and agaves this time to fill in some holes in my landscape. I have some pictures below of these babies. I'm excited about the prospect of a southwestern cactus garden in my south yard! If you have want to add a little bit of interest to your yard with an unusual touch, or even just want to create an indoor cactus/succulent arrangement, I highly highly recommend visiting ColdHardyCactus.com. If you live in the Denver metro area you can pick them up from Kelly, but he also ships them anywhere.

The sizes- from compact to huge. The colors- non-blooming to show-stoppers. The knowledge- zones, growth, care. The prices- incredibly affordable for such rarity! I live in Austin, TX which is nearly perfect for all types of cacti, but we do experience the occasional freeze (like this week ), but these cacti are one less worry I have when protecting all my cold-tender plants. I planted my selections around November and they had plenty of time to root since we stay pretty warm until January. Excited to see what the spring holds for new growth and I'll certainly be adding to my in-ground collections!

What can I say about ACE? First off I'm a hardware store junkie. Does that explain why I love ACE?…read moreHold on a second. I don't just love anything or anyone that quicky. This one grew on me. This is my neighborhood store. I'm an off the beaten path hardware store fan. Back in California, there's one that I love to visit. Its on the way to our every two weekend backpacking trip. If we can't stop it actually made me a bit sad. But I digress. Although tiny hardware stores are packed with goodies to peruse. I love! This one in my neighborhood is not tiny. If I'm not mistaken this is their flag ship store. We're in and out here most weeks. So fast forward to a Pandemic Life. Aside from backpacking, in house dining etc that was taken away from us there is a different animal that sorta replaced things that were taken away. Boredom. Not me. I'm resourceful. It's Adam. He's my person. He's an essential worker. But it's not enough. Hiking locally is not enough. So he finds fault with our house. Unfortunately for him it's new! So what he's left with is enhancing what's there. So we're in and out of this location with a myriad or purchases. A new and improved Traeger, our old one died. Although I suspect someone killed that grill . A Yeti ice box. Oh yeah expensive light bulbs that will work with the Apple ecosystem. New and improved big and bright ass lights. Tools. And me? Seeds and garden stuff. And I'm no Saint. I shop online. But that's a different story/review. The folks here are super helpful. Very accommodating. And they never rush you. They allowed us to exchange a product that otherwise we would've been stuck with it and it was expensive. Their delivery service is great! On time and it feels like your friends are just moving your things for you. I've been back just recently. I have to tell you guys all my garden stuff this year is from them. Btw they have tons of grill stuff. All the Yeti products. I love the accessories that yet offer for their giant tumbler. They have all the products here! Oh btw- are you a fan of the online store called The Grommet? It's like "As seen on TV" with a different focus. They have a little corner here. When you walk in-make a left into the aisle and there it is to your left! The one on one attention here is priceless. There might be more products somewhere else but here I don't have to walk around looking for help.
