have never written a review for here before, but after today's experience I felt I had to. I went…read moreinto the store with my small dog (6 lbs) who I was holding the entire time. I did not see any sign about dogs at the entrance, and while shopping two employees offered to help us--neither mentioned any issue about pets. Out of nowhere, an employee named Sadie walked past us, then doubled back and abruptly said, "You can't have dogs here." I politely apologized and immediately headed toward the front of the store with my dog while my partner stayed behind to pay. Instead of leaving it at that, Sadie followed me and raised her voice, telling me I "should have seen the HUGE sign." The sign was not huge--it was a standard piece of paper and very easy to miss. We have shopped here many times before with our dog and have never been told otherwise, so the hostility was unnecessary. As I continued to leave, Sadie muttered "asshole" under her breath and continued making rude comments even as my partner was checking out. Completely unprofessional and uncalled for. For the record, she also never asked whether my dog was a service animal, which businesses are legally required to do before making assumptions. Instead, she incorrectly claimed it couldn't be a service dog because it didn't have a vest--which is not a legal requirement. To make things worse, Sadie wasn't even wearing a name tag or any form of identification as an employee. If this is how management behaves, I can only imagine how other customers are treated when there isn't a crowd to witness it. We used to shop here often, but after today we will not be returning. Completely disappointed in the lack of professionalism and basic customer respect.

I will never in my entire life utilize this establishment again. I grew up in Kings Grant and visit…read morethe area frequently, as my mom still lives around the corner. I was in town visiting family this week and I stopped in the liquor store before going to a BYO spot for dinner with a college friend. In an attempt to support small, local businesses I went here instead of Canals. HUGE MISTAKE. I picked out my wine and proceeded to head up to the counter. I was conversing with the woman behind the counter, and I asked her if she needed my ID. I produced my out of state Virginia drivers license immediately. She rejected it stating they do not accept out of state drivers licenses. I am a 28 year old married woman. I was buying Black Box Rosè. I'm not some child trying to break the law or I wouldn't have been having a 10 minute casual conversation. I proceeded to plead my case to this person, as I had no time to stop elsewhere. I continued to produce identification with pictures, and then I was questioned about why my last name was different on my license ... maybe because I got married? This was literally the most insulting experience of my life. Then, my mom who is a KG resident called to voice a complaint about the whole experience. She was told off by the ignorant owner or manager, like she wasn't a patron. They clearly do not know that the customer is always right and they really do not care if you present valid ID. The owner/manager literally said, "we will serve whoever we want - we are a private business." Sounds a little discriminatory to me ... DO NOT SUPPORT THEM!

The business is located in a lovely Victorian Home and there is a bar on the lower floor and upstairs. Downstairs is a little tight, so we opted to hang out in the upstairs area.
