Sun Crest Water Park - Big slide

What you need to know:…read more You can bring in coolers and even a grill! Pack all the food and drinks you need. There is not a lunch spot here or (near here) to buy food from. There is tons of seating available, typically a four chair, table and umbrella set up. There are some tables kind of tucked away in pretty spots but these are all first come first serve so arrive early. This establishment is CASH ONLY. The water is not "pool clean". There is a lot of sand everywhere and the water looks more like lake water. CAREFUL!! Stairs, paths and walkways are NOT level, or the same size; watch your step. The place is a bit run down and I didn't notice any life guards. But nothing looked hazardous. There are plenty of entry and exit points into and out of the water. The shallow end is 9inches and the deep end is 9ft In the women's bathroom there was only one "changing stall" - such as it was - and two toilets that were working questionably. For little ones: They can hang out in the shallow end, or go down the assortment of little slides. The 16 month old with us had a fun time. For big kids/adults: There is a rope swing, a large slide and a volley ball net. The 17 and 21 year old with me had fun. 12 and under could probably spend all day here. (At $8-$11 a person that's not bad!). After a few hours the adult [kids] were bored and ready to go. I did the big slide a few times and it was fun. I could see us potentially going back. It did get quite crowded about 2pm when we were leaving.

The other reviewer is right, the chairs are plastic and somewhat flimsy, but we didn't go to sit down. The water park is relatively small (what you see in the pictures is the entirety of the place) and it feels a little bit like you're going back in time, but it was wonderful. My 3 year old and 5 year old loved the waterslides and playing in the water. The water was chilly but refreshing. Know before you go: Bring your own food/ drinks (no alchohol), they have bathrooms but no showers, bring sunscreen and don't expect a fancy water park. It's a quaint little place that is charming and fun.

I want to start off by saying that this review was originally intended for Broyhill Park only, not…read morethe pool. That said, I've been to the pool a few times, so I will touch on that, as well. I first learned of Broyhill Park through the Town of Blowing Rock's recent Instagram post highlighting the place. It looked beautiful on pictures, and it prompted me to want to want to take my dog on a walk there this beautiful, sunny, summer Monday morning. We have lived in Boone for 3 years and have found that we are still continuously finding new places to venture to and take walks. I Googled the address for Broyhill Park, I think it was 1504 Laurel Ln., and my GPS took me to the Blowing Rock equestrian center. I drove in circles looking for the park and even stopped off to ask several folks on the side of the road. No one happened to be from the area and therefore couldn't direct me to the location. Finally, just as I was about to leave, stumbled upon the park. It is right next to the Robbins Pool and across the street from the Glenn Burney trail access. Phew! This little park was cute and sweet and provided a calming, inviting atmosphere this morning for me to walk my dog and rest on the park bench. I would certainly recommend others consider take a stroll here. Regarding the pool: I think I went a total of 3 times last summer. Once for a child's birthday party and the other times with my own nieces and nephews. Anyone can use this pool, provided they pay the small fee required before entering. This fee varies for Blowing Rock residents vs. those who are not. Regardless, it isn't expensive. To me, too, it's certainly worth it given it is the only outdoor pool I am aware of in this area. I grew up in a town where outdoor pools are rampant and available in many neighborhoods, so this was my first experience attending a true community pool that required payment. That said, I really liked it. The kids love it, too! I believe the pool is heated, since the outdoor weather in the mountains is really scorching hot. 10/10 would recommend visiting the pool, the park, the nearby trail, and the town!

(I was kind of confused by the signs that indicated that no pets were allowed that were posted right beside the doggie bags for waste disposal?) There is a relatively short path around the small lake, more of a pond really. That makes it a perfect destination for people who want to enjoy the outdoors, but aren't sure of the weather or may have physical limitations to the more challenging hikes. There is also a community pool located across the street from the park and it looked fantastic. Not only did they have full lanes for swimming, but they had water slides and other splash park water features.

When that is too busy or I have my kids with me, I use the 25 meter/yard therapy pool. At the time of this review, I have been paying for 3 visits at a time-- am not paying for the year. This is first and foremost a pool for lap swimming and swimming lessons. The gym is secondary and small. The playground is open to everyone but still managed by Greenville County. The last time I was there, one slide was broken/taped off. The schedule for use of the two pools is posted every week online. If you don't check that schedule, you may arrive to find the facility having a swim meet or closed. Over the years, the schedule has improved in its readability. Remember that if lightning is in the area, they have a (45 minute?) pause on swimming. That could close the facility early. They occasionally have a new person working the front but the facility is usually managed very well. For a person new to the community, just ask for help-- its a big facility.

Bleachers were well spaced with sufficient handrails to help you feel secure as you ascended the steps. I only saw one aspect of the center so can't really give a good perspective. It was a cold, rainy day but this place was TOASTY! Toasty enough that I quickly shed my rainwear and then my light jacket. And that's about all I can report.
