We hired College Truckers to store our college son's items. The premise is they provide boxes, labels and then come pick up and store it. You agreed to pay for 4 months and they deliver to the dorm as the school year begins. We were given a 2 hour delivery window and then the person called but didn't leave a message or text. (Who doesn't text? Even my hairdresser texts appointment confirmations.) In fairness, my son and his roommate should have answered even a spam number during the delivery window period. But again, there was no message, no text, and no email communication. The apartment has a central mailroom that everything goes through and we were told by the front desk that everything had to go through the mailroom so we actually expected the boxes had been dropped there. I have called and emailed multiple times. I have yet to reach anyone via telephone, even after sitting on hold for 40 minutes (twice!). I have received email assurances (no apologies, though), and we did receive three boxes four days after they were due. We have yet to receive our shelf (brand new last semester) and are sure we will not see that again. This is a company run and staffed by teenagers. There is no structure and no customer service. In theory, the concept is great. In practice, not so great. I'm sure when everything goes well, it's fine. However, they are not skilled or equipped to handle or address any problems. It is cheaper and less stressful to rent a storage unit on our own. I would absolutely not recommend them. read more

This was the worst service time and waste of money that I've ever spent on anything ever. When movers schedule a time to pick items up they were three hours or more late and then when they delivered items after being stored over the summer they were three hours late and our couch was ruined it had a big wet stain on it. A brand new desk that we had was destroyed and scratched and we were missing a few smaller items such as shower curtain bed comforter and towels. Awful experience. My daughter was given a 2pm to 6pm Thursday window for pickup of boxes from her dorm. No movers showed up and nobody from College Truckers ever contacted her. She called the company's customer service number shortly after 6pm, getting a recorded message that they had closed at 6 pm and they were also closed on Fridays. We had to change her plane tickets and scramble to find another moving/storage company at the last minute. Horrible company. read more

College Truckers is literally the worst company EVER with horrendous customer service! The business concept is seriously flawed as the moving and storing duties are performed by students. These students have no local supervision, so when the students quit over and over again, there is no one even in the state to help solve the problems. At the University of Maryland, we hired College Tuckers to move our daughter's boxes from her freshman dorm at the end of the semester, store them over the summer, and then re-deliver them to her sophomore dorm at the beginning of the school year. Every step of the way something went wildly wrong. First, the boxes were never delivered after the first student-workers quit. Our daughter had to pick them up herself, which isn't easy to do without a car on a humongous campus. Then, the boxes were stored by the student-workers in such a manner that when we finally got them back, they were badly damaged. We were told by the person who eventually pulled the boxes from the storage unit that the boxes were "thrown" inside. Others got their items back broken with missing pieces. The best, however, is that our BOXES WERE NEVER DELIVERED AT THE END OF THE SUMMER! After 48 hours of being told the boxes were coming, we were finally allowed to learn the location of the storage facility, so we could pick them up ourselves. Ultimately, we heard that again the student-workers quit - this time the morning of the scheduled deliveries. The lack of communication throughout was beyond frustrating. There was always at least a 20 minute wait to get through on the phone. Then, once the call was finally answered, the reps had absolutely no solutions to the problems of what was happening on our campus. They should have been forthright that they had nobody to deliver our items, so we could have had the option to pick up our own boxes from the start, instead of wasting 2 full days waiting around. Learning that out boxes were an hour away on a Friday during rush-hour was the final blow on a seriously unacceptable experience. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! read more

Horrible communication. They got mad at us for reaching out for an updated time, saying we're just slowing them down. They can't even guarantee that they'll get here today. I have not had a single good experience with College Truckers: ridiculously expensive and poor communication. They promised complimentary boxes and packing tape for the week of move-out, but did not follow through. (Not that they ran out. They just did not have it at all.) They did not arrive to pick up my items within their 2-hour window, and they did not give any notice that they were off schedule; I had to reach out to them 5 minutes before the end of my window to hear anything from them. New ETA was 2.5 hours after the start of my window, and they still got there 3 hours after the start of my window. Their billing page lacked transparency: did not have every box accounted for (so I feared my items had gotten lost in the process), did not apply the discount I was promised. Furthermore, at the tail end of the process, the wrong stuff was delivered to my apartment! After all that, they still have the audacity to text me asking if I want to use their services again, and if I would be willing to recommend their services to others. (Likely a "don't-shoot-the-messenger" situation, but it was an appalling request given my experience with CT.) EDIT: Read some other reviews and wanted to chime in on some things. No receipt after pickup: how many boxes, roughly what sizes, and nothing to sign. No ballpark estimate on how much the items would cost, so imagine my surprise three months later when 1) the online receipt is inaccurate and 2) close to $300. read more

Unbelievably poor company to do business with they have no issue taking your money and then ghosting you for months. No problem with the pick up, the issue was with the lack of communication. An abhorrently run operation leaving many students without belongings, and overworked on location students trying to make amends with angry parents and students. Way too many issues for this review. Tried for over a month to get an earlier delivery date as my daughter is conducting orientation for freshman and needs to be on campus early. CT kept saying an earlier delivery was possible, for $250, and they'd check. But multiple emails never confirmed whether possible and it wasn't until they day we got on the plan when they told us they couldn't accommodate. As this gem was provided by their Director of Operations, David Peterson: "Your daughter can survive a week without her stuff, she has been able to do so all summer long." My son got into an accident with one of the trucks they admitted through email that it was totally their fault... I am attaching a text I received from the company.. The total damages thank God was only $800 and at first they were willing to pay and not go through insurance but once I found out for me how much it was going to be they change their mind they knew I did not wanna go through insurance because I had a $500 deductible and my son was 18 at the time so they knew the last thing I wanted to do was go through insurance. They decided to do the unethical thing and say let's go through insurance because they knew there was no way that I wanted to do that with no fault these days I probably would get into a headache with my insurance company that my son is only 18 because of no fault these days. The company if you look reviews are terrible they are unethical and if you could use somebody else you should what goes around comes around all I asked simply was for a $500 check and I would eat the $300 dollars But no they want to do the wrong thing the unethical thing and not pay anything and say let's go through insurance even though I know they don't wanna go through insurance themselves. This is the first and last time I will use College Trucks. We ended up paying about $100 per box for 5 medium sized boxes to be moved, stored over the summer and returned (on the 20 of August, not the 19th as promised). Over priced and with no options to get the boxes earlier without paying another $250.00, on top of the $500 already paid. Communication was difficult via phone and email and there was a false notice sent to us that our boxes "couldn't be located" that was sent by mistake and meant to motivate people who hadn't paid their bill in full (we had). This company is located in Brooklyn - 240 miles from Ithaca. Why are they contracting to store students' items if they are so far away?? read more

Two hours past the four hour window on pickup and 2-3 hours late past the window when returning the furniture from the summer. Ruined a leather couch, broke a pot planter and ruined a desk. Tried to create a trouble ticket after the delivery and after getting an initial reply, radio silence after pictures were submitted. Unfortunately, the initial charge occurs on pick-up but if you have an issue when your furniture is returned, it is past the window to dispute the charge with the credit card company. read more

Horrible service, extremely unreliable, I had a 12-2pm pickup time, and my items were picked up at 7pm. I asked for a discount because I had to miss my train home to wait for them to pick up my stuff, and they said they would reevaluate my bill in a month. Then I was told they lost my stuff, I was given two bills(super confusing) and they kept notifying me that I was being charged late fees because I wasn't paying my bill, even though they told me not to pay until they reevaluated. When they did reevaluate, they didn't notify me (I had to call them) and they only took 10% off of my stored items, and no discount on my shipped items. They hire college students to do their work, which is a great idea but we're not always the most reliable crowd. They don't anticipate how many U-Hauls or students they will need to get to everyone on time, and are really disorganized. I recommend getting a shared storage unit near your campus instead, it will probably end up being cheaper too. read more

We used them in St. Paul / Minneapolis. It's only 2 stars because our stuff was picked up, stored, and retrieved without a problem. However, they took advantage of a first-year college student's naivete and did not make it clear that had the student packaged things up differently, the cost would have been vastly less. They charged an exorbitant amount to store a small volume of stuff for 3 months. After I complained several times, they refunded a small portion of this, but I'm sure you can find a better price and value with a little legwork. read more

College Truckers indicated they would ship his items 3 to 4 days before classes started at Marquette. That would have been about August 26. They were shipped on September 14 and arrived on September 19 (too late for his new school) and only 2 of the 3 bags were included. Including the fee we paid for storage, and the cost of replacing most of our items, we have spent well over $1000. The response to our inquiries and claims has been non- existent and we are still waiting for a resolution to the issue on October 11. I have been lied to and mislead on numerous occasions. However when I went to pay for their services and they took two months to cash the check and eventually I had to cancel the check. We had a terrible experience with this company. They never provided tracking numbers and took weeks to respond to any calls or emails about where our son's boxes were. The boxes finally arrived 3-4 weeks late and one was seriously damaged. They sent our son an invoice for payment 3 months after the original ship date and because he was never given any type of receipt on or near the day of shipping, we had nothing to compare their pricing to. That invoice was $250 over the verbally quoted price. We emailed multiple times requesting a written quote and/or invoice and got nothing. After lots of unanswered emails about this, I finally called. They adjusted their price by about $80, but the invoice was still way more than the originally quoted price. Their solution? 15% off for next year. There is no way we would ever use them again or recommend them to anyone. I can only remember writing a negative review like this one other time-- I am more of a positive and encouraging type of reviewer! Unfortunately this experience was so poor I felt I needed to write about it. This is the first review I have ever written but my experience with college truckers was so horrible I feel compelled to warn others. This company is a scam. They never delivered my daughter's items to her dorm room-instead 8 hours after the delivery window dumped them at a location and made us go pick them up ourselves. Items were missing. They have no customer service-their phone number goes intantly to voicemail and will never return an email. They have kept her missing item with no way for us to get it back. They should be shut down by the attorney general in my opinion for fraud. NEVER use them! read more

They will lose one of your boxes and you will spend an eternity trying to get it back and you never will because it takes them weeks to respond to an email and the email response is asking for information YOU'VE ALREADY PROVIDED and so you wait a few more weeks for a second response and a third and a fourth and all of them will deny the obvious and contain a lot of internal discrepancies; the all too common bureaucratic bullshit. They will NOT take responsibility! Awful. My daughter attend UNC Chapel Hill. They were very rude from the start. She made an appointment to move before she move out of her dorm. On the day they were to pick up her things, they never showed. She called and texted them and the person that finally answered was very rude and said that even though they had confirmed the appointment that were not coming. They came to pick her things after she left for the semester. On returning to school they were two hours late bringing her boxes even though the person told her that he would be there on time. They broke her tv. She was told by a worker that they would replace it, but called a week later saying that she should give them $100 and they would pay for the rest or they will not replace it. She filed a claim and after a month and a half, she received an email saying they were not replacing it. I would not recommend them ever. Very unprofessional. Very intimidating. read more

There is a long and detailed outgoing message that lends some credibility but the same person answered the phone whenever I had a question. At some point she referred me to the "shipping department" and I got an email from... her. I'm so relieved that I canceled the shipping part of my order, I have no confidence that it would have arrived. The refrigerator rental, which I confirmed on the phone with her two weeks prior to my son's arrival at school, was never delivered. When the (same) woman finally called four days later I was told the order had been canceled in July. They also claimed to have refunded my credit card for the amount but I called my credit card company and was charged for the refrigerator. read more

Mostly horrible experience. My experience started off great, they supplied me with boxes and came to pick up my stuff right on time. They sent me a bill after they picked up my things, but I didn't hear from them again after that. No information on when the shipped items would be arriving or even a tracking number. I shipped my items on May 11th and I only just now got them almost a whole month later on June 8th. I emailed and called them many times with no response until I got an email asking if I had properly labeled my items (which I did) and a text basically explaining that they were busy. Finally, I emailed my college's representative who had come to pick up my things and he got back to me almost immediately explaining that he had had issues with shipping but my things would be coming. Today ALL of my items came in the mail including the ones that I had shipped. I am incredibly annoyed that they shipped everything that I had clearly labeled for storage, but after reading these reviews I am glad I have all of my things so this company can't lose my things. This service is a great idea but the execution is absolutely horrible and the customer service is even worse. You will regret using College Truckers and I will certainly be looking for an alternative next year. read more

My move in appointment was supposed to be 5 days ago; they are incredible delayed, slow to respond, management has slow communication with the move-in teams, no ETA updates for customers; they don't pick up their phone line, will not update you for a day and not even know if your belongings have not been delivered. Their solution for the delay was to offer students to go pick up their belongings from local storage, but we LITERALLY PAID for the move in service. Unacceptable. This was... A mess. They didn't even manage to deliver the items to anyone on campus, they just had open trucks in front of a random hall and made everyone show up to pick their heavy boxes up with no help on a notoriously steep hilly campus. Even this haphazard solution took them an entire day to figure out, my stuff was supposed to be delivered at 11am and I hauled it away at around 6:45pm. While in waiting limbo absolutely no information was provided to us, and when we tried to ask the text line when the last deliveries of the day would be so we could leave the dorm where we were waiting and eat real meals and stuff eventually they were evasive and repetitive and rude. They also seem to treat their student workers pretty poorly, because despite our school's team being super kind and responsive, they admitted to having been hired last-minute and not given appropriate info. read more

I should have looked at reviews first. They are so hard to deal with; you can't get anyone on the phone or email; they billed me and the invoice date was the day before I got the first bill so it was already late and charged me an outrageous late fee. They wouldn't let you pay the invoice without the late fee so I had to call. (they did take the late fee off) When you finally get someone, they take your CC # and then bill you again, asking for proof you paid. I asked if that's all I owe, said yes so I thought I was done with them then send me another invoice for a separate charge, a month later. Do not use them! Pricing is outrageous; you have no option to get your stuff in the interim if you wanted to AND you have to pay an extra $250.00 if you are an athlete and your move-in date is sooner than their designated dates of delivery. read more

Not only did they not show up at their scheduled pick-up times twice, still have not responded about an early move in request, they have yet to return multiple emails or phone calls regarding questions about our bill which is insanely high for the few things my daughter has stored there. If it was possible to give them negative stars, I would. My daughter was to have 4 very large boxes stored and a smaller one shipped to our house which is a long plane ride from her college. The shipped box did not show up for a month. At least half a dozen emails and calls went unanswered. After a month ALL her boxes were mailed to our house. We have no way to get the large things back to her college and the things she actually needed didn't get here in time. I have literally never experienced worse customer service and part of my job is calling health insurance companies so you know that's bad. Stay far, far, far away from this scammy company. read more
