If both of these things do not really impress you, then I can personally say that I am fully inspired by this school from the current 2014-15 school year students because not only were they happy to see their friends again, but they were excited, truly elated, to be back in school. Wow! Authentic leaners are what more schools need. My daughter fits right into the NMSA pupil population because she herself is a natural student, and I anticipate her flourishing here for many reasons. Some of those reasons include the learning environment, teachers, scholars, and overall educational embrace. The admissions department selected the perfectly motivated children, and I am amazed with their selection. I fully support the New Mexico School for the Arts. I want to volunteer here as much as time allows. I cannot wait to help. Congratulations NMSA! Well done.

Warehouse 21 used to be mostly a big parking lot full of 14-17 year olds smoking and trying to look…read morecool while listening to a bad local teenage band on a Friday or Saturday night. Recently though, they have made a new building an it seems much more focused on their original intention of making art accessible to young people. I went to the opening of the building a couple of days ago, and while it was still surrounded by 14-17 year olds trying to look cool, they also have a great new media arts center, a waaay better recording studio, and two really good gallery spaces. The performance space for the bands is surprisingly similar to the old one, but at least that isn't the only thing that's going on there anymore. I'm looking forward to seeing what else they come up with.

Kind of an odd venue. I have heard Santa Fe is lacking in them so it is good it is there. It has…read morethat kind of After School special vibe but trying to be hip. There is no booze allowed there, and the kids orientation attitude is cool for them but possibly with that you lose other markets. Our friend who has a radio show was surprised he did not see more of the older people in the Santa Fe music circle. However it is a block a way from 2nd street brewery so this is easily rectified. Sound was okay and the staff were polite. The dance floor was better than some. It was kind of weird how the younger crowd like to sit on the floor. You feel bad standing in front of them. But you want to show the performers some love. For gods sake is nobody feeding these hipsters -for they are too weak to stand up at a decent live show. What is the world coming to today.

Local artist and instructor Jane Shoenfeld met us at the designated time and place and proceeded to open our eyes to the wonders of pastels and landscape. The location was a superb venue for plein air instruction. As my wife and I are at different artistic levels, Jane was able to instruct each one of us at our particular level. We found her to be the consummate teacher and professional. We each felt we had opened ourselves to a new medium and had received in such a short time an amazing amount of information. She actually extended the lesson past the 3 hours so that we could reach a point where we could finish our projects by ourselves. Beware of this one! I wish I could express the excellence that some described here because, in my…read more40 years of being involved in professional arts as a certified art educator and gallery owner, this was the most ill-planned workshop I have ever encountered. When we placed the deposit she wanted to know our level of experience so she could adjust the workshop accordingly. She knew we were experienced certified art educators yet she taught elementary level color wheel information. She picked us up at Ghost Ranch in a car that was messy, dirty, and barely had room for us to sit. We crammed ourselves into her back seat and were cautioned not to sit on her eggs. She was afraid we would be kicked out of Ghost Ranch...something about she didn't get permission to teach there. She panicked when a proprietor approached her, but we were fine there. We expected to be taken to the plein air workshop to participate, and she drove around so we could select an area. Then we had to tote all of her supplies to the site and help her set up and tear them down and tote them back to her car. I have a disability but did my best to make several trips across uneven surfaces. . I was concerned with the vague references to how much the workshop was. Something was said that made me think she was increasing the price and so I asked how much we owed her over the deposit. She said she was too busy to discuss that and later informed us that since there were only two of us that she was charging more for private lessons! And it was a LOT more. Also she expressed that it would be the same charge again the next day, when the understanding was that we were paying a one-time fee for two days. We didn't plan to go to the second one after the first-day experience so it didn't matter. We cancelled our second day. She was so afraid that we weren't going to pay what she became demanding. The lady needs to learn some tact....after she learns how to teach art. I can usually find something positive to say, so let me end here with despite the experience I loved seeing Ghost Ranch.

As of January 2007, the beginning of School of American Research's 101st year, the name of this…read moreeducational non-profit organization was officially changed to the "SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED RESEARCH ON THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE." I only knew this research facility when I lived in Santa Fe as SAR. I did contract archeological cartography for them for a couple of years. The cartography wasn't difficult, but getting each drawing and map approved was. They had a reputation for never approving the first work submitted. Always wanting everything perfect. Deadlines weren't the primary motivation, perfection was. There were always changes. But producing maps and drawings for some of the Grand Canyon Series of publications made me feel a real part of this prestigious institution and worth the trouble of working for perfectionists. This 100 year-old institution was initially established to study and research the archaeology and ethnology of the American Southwest. In the late 1960s the focus became more of a global one. The programs and activities of SAR today include research and study to advance archeology, anthropology and similar related disciplines. The School's many programs include a scholars-in-residence program, seminars and public lectures, and extensive Native American Indian Arts research programs. SAR has an annual Lecture Series and also provides field trips to noted archeological sites to its members. Membership is inexpensive and the benefits are enormous. 100 years of research is at your fingertips through their extensive library collections (the librarian was the librarian in the Laboratory of Anthropology for many years) and many research programs and publications. (Plus they always welcome volunteers.)
