The restaurant looked appealing as I strolled through the Kreis 5 neighborhood so i got on the elevator and went to the 35th floor where the Clouds restaurant is located. With panoramic views and a semi-elegant ambiance, Clouds looked like a reasonable choice for the evening. The views are of a modern trendy bohemian neighborhood which was once an industrial complex complete with warehouses. After having a cocktail at the separate bar location, I proceeded to the dining area. Think 16 to 24 CHF for a cocktail. The bar offered a full range of cocktails. The menu is eclectic and according to my smart phone, Catalonian inspired by Chef David Martinez Salvany. The menu also features local and international dishes. Loosely interpreted, I would have to concede that it is an accurate description. They have starters and I choose the beef tartar with caviar on top. For the main course I choose the Angus Beef medium rare. Beef throughout Switzerland seems to command a premium price, at Clouds it cost 65 CHF. For what ever reason it takes a long time to be served according to my time expectations. On the bright side, it allows you to enjoy the view longer. For dessert I was contemplating having the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The presentation was worthy of a 5 Star restaurant and tasted just as satisfying. The food was enjoyable, the service begged for more training and the prices were Swiss prices which more often than not shock Americans. . For a three course dinner for one, think 100-150 CHF. In summary, a 3.5 Star rating was probably more appropriate.

I might not know much about coffee but I do know my food, especially pastrami sandwiches. Is it the best Rueben I ever had? No but in my opinion it is the best one in Zurich and I've probably tried most of them as my love for pastrami runs deep. I ordered hot tea, and used my teabag sparingly. When I asked for more hot water from a server, I was refused unless I paid for an additional tea again; it was against the rules she said. When I asked another server about it, he also said it was against the rules--but he would make an exception. I thanked him and he brought the hot water. The woman server then approached me and told me that I wasn't nice to ask another server. I told her that the restaurant's policy was unfriendly, that it didn't cater to a customer's reasonable wishes, and that it was good that the Zurich's custom was not to tip. I also told her that I would post a review of the restaurant and share my experience. Then the second server came back (the one who gave me more hot water) and asked if it was true that I would review the restaurant. I said yes--but only decided to do so when the first server told me I wasn't nice. Then he snatched my hot teacup away and showed me the door! There should have been a dip or something to make the bread a little less blah. The servers were indeed friendly, but it seemed as though there were only 3 or 4 of them for the entire place, and so they were running around nonstop the entire time I was there, making it very difficult to order.
