I've been here on several different occasions…read more I came here about 5 years ago to take my first swimming lesson over be summer. The price of the classes was reasonable & the instructor was great! Recently, I brought my 7 month old son for a group swim class (parent and child). The cost, again, reasonable ($45 for the week with 5 half hour classes included). The instructor was amazing! Happy and interactive. We did songs and free one playing with toys as well as skills such as getting in and out of the pool ("jumping in" and holding the side of pool and gettin out). The facilities themselves are amazing--Olympic sized pool, hot tub, small pool for kids where you can wade in to get them acclimated, etc. I dock a star because I still am upset about he cost of parking here. It's too much! $3 if you pay at machine and if you pay on app $3.35. Sure, you can buy a permit or drive around aimlessly trying to find a street spot, but it's kinda crazy (especially during college session!) But overall, the place is great and I will be back!

No street parking in all neighborhood on weekdays, permit required unless you go on weekends (no permit required on Saturdays and Sundays). I like that they have a tiny little spin drier for swimsuits in locker room, also SiriusXM music playing in all facility and vending machines available at the pool... I'd easily put 5 stars if they offer free parking for their visitors. The pay parking is actually going to limit my visits to them to weekends.

The instructors and the beats (music) rotate. Floating back supports, and floating barbells are free of charge. Swimming caps are not required. You must shower before you enter the pool. Prior to the class, the staff will need to either check off your prepaid card, or collect a fee, and additionally, you'll need to sign in for insurance purposes. If you frequent the pool, you're going to want to get on their email list so that you will be apprised of any changes to their schedules. A line starts forming about 20 minutes before class, and due to drop-ins, you might want to get there early to make certain that you get the equipment that you like. Classes are held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. An additional class will run through August and begin at 10:30 on Saturday. Don't quote me because I buy a pass for $33 to attend 10 sessions, but I think an individual class is $4. It's a very chatty class, we laugh a lot, we get a kick out of singing to music, and laughing with the instructor. The instructors change up the exercises, so it's never boring. You're free to rest in the middle of class if you need to or to adapt your workout, there's no pressure. Parking is free. Showers and lockers are available, bring your own lock. Be prepared for a line to enter class and give yourself enough time. That's it! Come on over and join us for a class or two, you may find you want to drink the Kool-Aid!

AZTEC RECREATION CENTER @ SDSU…read more This gym is available for all San Diego State University students and those who are interested in purchasing the membership. I definitely have enjoyed coming to this gym for the past 3 years as a student. I really like how big the gym is, it has two floors, and they also have areas where you can lift and also join to do classes. The one thing I dislike and lost a star was that it can get VERY overpacked, and that they don't have enough machines for this. There is way too much people waiting on the one machine they have, valley enough treadmills for the amount of students that attend this school. They always run out of paper towels especially when it gets done to the evening crowd. I'd definitely recommend attending an evening time for the gym

The facility upgrades are fantastic, but it's sad that the facilities are no long open 24 hours! I assume it's to allow staff to deep clean the place? There are two main gripes I have about the ARC: 1. The students need to learn how to rerack their dang weights. 2. On weekend nights sometimes the walkways are cluttered with hot dog stands -- including in the bike path near the arena and the ramp to the gym. I don't remember that being an issue pre-COVID. I bike to the ARC to avoid parking, but having to navigate my bike around hot dog carts in a thoroughfare is annoying.
