I received a credit from them in the amount of $46.50 after six of my trees did not sprout out. When I tried to use the credit the shipping was more than any product i tried to order. I even tried to use it by ordering 3 oz. of root powder for $16 and the shipping was over $43. Obviously this credit was useless. What a horrible operation. I would avoid them. read more

I ordered over $200 in plants. They arrived very stressed. Despite only taking a few days to get to me most of the leaves were already dead. I have to assume they were stressed before they even shipped. 2 weeks later it looks like only a handful will survive despite my trying to nurture them back to life. Placed an order of 5 redbuds, 5 pawpaws, 5 dogwood trees. When I received my trees on May 14th the roots were no longer moist as there wasn't enough damp saw dust in the root bag. I immediately soaked the roots with a root starter solution and potted each one in a high quality soil mix in huge landscaping pots. I placed them in a morning sun afternoon shade spot sheltered from any high winds and they have been watered consistently. I'm at almost at the 30 day mark after planting and I have 3 live red buds and 1 single pawpaw that have leafed out. Everything else is sticks slowly drying out despite receiving top notch care. The dogwoods were shipped with dead dried leaves which means they budded and leafed out when dug or came out of dormancy and then we're allowed to dry out for shipping, can't imagine that shock was good for their survival. The one redbud was shipped with a root system that was gored with a shovel when being dug and had open wounds to the main root base at the trunk. I knew that one wouldn't make it and it didn't. I had no complaints on the pawpaws other then the caliper of the trunks was incredibly thin for their height. I will also mention out of the groups of 5 I got 4 nice evenly sized trees within the size range and then one undersized weak tree in every bunch. I understand bareroot can have only 50% success rate depending on the species but I didn't even come close to that. I am still taking care of the trees and I am going to give them more time before I dispose of them. If for some miracle any of them should leaf out much later I will update my review to reflect that but for now I have so say I'm not very pleased with the products at all. read more

Very unsatisfied with them. We received their contact information from someone and decided to call to see if they had any white pines. My boyfriend called in the middle of September and asked on a price for 250 white pine trees that were 2-3'. The total came just under $650. They were very fast to take the order and payment however they never told us that they weren't guaranteed or that they don't recommend fall planting. We watered them, they had good dirt, good sun light and they were planted on 3 different properties we have. Fast forward to the middle of April, 243 out of 250 are completely dead. I called them to see what we could do about it seems how we spent so much money with them and only 7 living trees. As soon as I called I spoke with Alice. I started explaining the situation. She cut me off and very rudely said "so what do you want". After I said "well they are all dead", she tried transferring me and ended up hanging up on me. I called back realizing it was just an accident and instead of telling the whole story again I nicely said "I was the one that just called and got hung up on". Alice rudely said "you weren't hung up on you were disconnected". This time she took my name and number and had Megan call me back. I told Megan the whole story and she basically said there was nothing she could do as the disclosure is on the website. I stated multiple times that it was a phone order and we never went to the website. Also during the whole phone conversation, no one ever said anything about their policy or coverage. She continued to state that they weren't covered and their policy was everywhere. She also said it was on the invoice however my boyfriend barely knows how to call someone let alone check his email. I said that even if the email was read they were already ordered but she said we should have cancelled the order at that point. She asked why my email wasn't on there to be a back up email, but we didn't realize that we would have an issue like this where I needed my email on there. They were not at all willing to work with us and just keep saying it wasn't covered. Megan then said she would talk to the owner and see what they could do. They decided to put a $75 credit on our account to order more trees. They did do something, however $75 when we spent $650 is nothing. It's pretty much petty money. They don't have the decency to let you know their policy but they are sure to take your money as fast as possible. We won't be giving them any more of our money due to the way they acted and how they didn't have enough respect to tell us when we ordered that they wouldn't be covered. I purchased Aspens from Cold Stream Farms 1 year ago. They were 36" tall and arrived as advertised. The previous year I had placed an order in the fall, but had to cancel the order in spring; no problem. The trees I planted last year had 100% survival. I did surround them with wire to protect them from deer browsing; other than that they were left alone. Solid product, direct honest people to work with in 2 instances. read more

Ordered several different plants from them this spring. All of them came small. The 2-3 foot were all 2 feet and thin. the 3 to 4 feet were more like 2.5 feet. All are healthy and are growing. Just don't like getting the short end of the stick. Will give someone else a try next year. read more

I am a retail customer. I ordered 3 yellow birch saplings. They arrived promptly, were well packed, and I planted them immediately. Only one survived the winter. I called, and they issued credit for the two. I called back weeks later, asked for replacements, and they, too, arrived promptly and well packed. Again I planted them immediately. All good. Their customer service is very helpful, very accommodating, and their prices are excellent. If I'm going to buy trees online, they're my "go to" nursery. read more

I did not see the stipulation for their guarantee on 24" evergreens. They won't guarantee! I would recommend not buying any evergreen over 24" as when they arrived they all looked about like the charlie brown tree. Figured I would plant and give a shot and if they didn't take off I could return in the Spring. Unfortunately, they sent me the guarantee that has the stipulation on it. I guess I should have read closer my fault but hopefully you won't make the same mistake! read more

I received a dead plant. I had a very difficult time reaching them. then was told they do not do refunds. they could give a credit to use later. this is May and I was told it is too late to send out plants to my area. I am in Zone 6 North Arkansas. part of the state in the southern half is in Zone 7, and so is Texas and that is the Zone they are going by, even though I am not in Zone 7. They also said to ship this far south They have a minimum of $17.72 for shipping . Twice the amount of the plant. I said I didn't think that was reasonable. So they said they will make a note not to take anymore orders from me. So If you buy plant from them that is dead it will cost you more to replace it than the plant is worth. And if you are not happy with that they will put on a list to never sell to you again. I have never had any plant company treat me like that before. I did order a replacement plant and it was so Dead I had a difficult finding the remains in the bag of wood chips read more

I have been working with Coldstream farm for over three years. Every spring I order a huge collection of their seedlings. I have never been dissatisfied. everything has always arrived healthy and ready to grow. The prices are great, and the trees are always well developed, with good roots. As long as we get everything planted neat and timely, the plants always thrive. I have also always had positive experiences with their customer service. In particular, this spring, 2020, they were willing to break down my order into smaller shipments, because due to the coronavirus, I will not have as big of a team of volunteers as I can usually count on to plant everything. So, they were perfectly agreeable and helpful to divide up the order into manageable chunks, and schedule the deliveries over three separate weeks, which we will be able to manage with smaller groups of people. I have purchased trees from Cold Stream Farm twice. You get what you pay for. About 50% survival rate on Norway pines. I paid extra for older seedlings so I was disappointed. White pines have had nearly 100% survival and I am pleased with them. I have bought a variety of sizes for White pine seedlings and have only lost a few. read more
