My kids were pointing to the waffle cones out on the counter and the woman said "no those are only for display" but then when they ordered she proceeded to use the display cone and gave it to my son. Who later told me it "tasted STALE". My daughter got a medium size and when the gentleman put the ice-cream on the stone the woman came over and removed 1/3 of it and put it back - essentially taking it away. Then when it came time for the mix-in she placed just one little Twix bar on the ice-cream (not two). Pretty LAME for a $10 ice-cream. I ended up paying $20 for two crappy ice-creams and a stale waffle cones Why would you tell someone "no that's the display" and then feed it to them? They are CLEARLY hurting for money and it shows. I felt embarrassed when my son asked me why we went there. The rest of my family had gelato down the street. I wish I had made that decision. We WON'T be going back. Very disappointed. read more

The same owners of the location in Clairemont took over a few months ago. They have small portions, usually not even filling the cup and will give BARELY any toppings (example: 1 Oreo mixed in to a "gotta have it" size). Also, I have never had icey tasting ice cream until these locations. Terrible. Really wish the original owners were still there. All the cold stones near me have been held hostage by these horrible new owners!!! read more

We were jonesing for a sweet treat as we roamed around La Jolla, and happened to chance upon the cold stone. Luckily, we had a gift card, otherwise I may be hesitant to spent the amount of $ on a large cup of (albeit) delicious ice cream. I ordered the cookie dough, and the flavor was great. It wasn't overly sweet, but it was definitely rich and creamy. I was a bit disappointed that there weren't cookie dough bites in it, but other than that, it was delicious. Inside: only a handful of chairs and some small patio chairs outside. Not good for large parties. Location: it is upstairs and there is an escalator to get up but you can only take stairs back down. I am not an ice cream consumer typically so the choices were quite impressive. Mixing it in front of me was something I hadn't seen before so I thought that was cool. This is a smaller Cold Stone location, but the staff are friendly and it's never really that crowded. I like all the Signature Creation flavors - especially the Founder's Favorite with sweet cream ice cream! I came here for my birthday and couldn't find the free ice cream special on my phone, but the salesperson was nice enough to give it to us free anyway. Word to the wise: print out the coupon as they typically can't accept the code on a smart phone. My husband and I have been to this Cold Stone location twice recently and have had a great experience here. Each time we had coupons (we received in the mail/local newspaper) and the teens working there honored them even though I would get ice cream and he would get a milkshake. On our first visit there, they actually asked if we had a frequent buyer card, which I had no idea they had. (I think they only offer this at this location and the RB one.) You get a free ice cream after purchasing 10, so it's great if you frequent Cold Stone often. Each time we've been there it hasn't been crowded so it's been quick to get our frozen treats. Cold Stone is a bit pricier, but there are always coupons in the mail/newspaper. I don't ever go there without a coupon. I decided to go wild and get the Strawberry Banana Rendezvous and WOW, just WOW. The chunky banana, fresh strawberries, bits of Graham Cracker Pie Crust mixed into strawberry ice cream gives you a different surprise and consistency in every bite. I don't like white chocolate (which it normally comes with) and I subbed for mini chocolate chips in there instead. BEST DECISION EVER. The white chocolate chips would make it way too sweet and hard to eat - normal chocolate chips balanced out the sweetness just a bit and made me a very happy girl. read more

The owner and employees are friendly and accommodating. The ice cream is delicious, and I love the music they play. If you aren't sure what to get, they will recommend mix-ins according to your taste and ice cream of choice. So many to choose from. Sometimes this Coldstone will not have the same signature creations as the other stores. Ask the employees and they can make it for you special, or look it up if they don't know. The cheesecake and coffee ice creams are incredible. Oh boy oh boy. The cheesecake tastes EXACTLY like the real deal, and the coffee ice cream is the perfect amount of strong flavor with creamy sweetness. You must try it. But listen up, people. I'm seeing a few worthless reviews of this location. This is a ****ing ice cream store with teenagers who work a summer job. That's it. It's not a four star restaurant and it's not the hoity-toity La Jolla fluff with royal catering. Be realistic with your reviews. There will be ice cream dripped outside, the public bathroom will not be spotless, toppings and cones will run out as summer demand increases. It happens. I was introducing my two friends to Cold Stone (yes they were Cold Stone virgins... I didnt think any existed ;)), the guy was very patient while they made their decision on what to have. The ice creams were mixed perfectly. The location was great (though I dont think many people knew it was there) and having tables outside to sit at was great! Sometimes ends up being a long wait because each ice cream dish takes a few minutes to prepare and personalize, so I would recommend this location staffing a little more heavily on peak times and seasons. I generally do not write reviews, but this time, I felt compelled to write one, because I wanted to give my compliments to one of the workers at the coldstone: I am not exactly sure what the name was of the worker, but she had long dark brown curly hair in a ponytail, and it was around 5 to 5:30 this evening(evening of June 13). I think her name was Ellen or Ellif, or something like that). But anyways, my boyfriend and I came to the Coldstone that day that time, and we were indecisive about what we wanted, and she went above and beyond to work with us and was very positive, understanding, and extra accommodating(more than expected), not to mention kind. I am so happy there are workers like her left on the planet, and she deserves a big bonus and more. Besides of that, I haven't been to Coldstone in a while, but as usual, I was impressed by the variety of rich flavors at the venue. Keep it up, Coldstone! read more

You go up the escalator that faces Prospect St., but they have all kinds of signage on Fay Ave. which makes it look like you could enter on that side as well.
